Process and manage biospecimens daily, ensuring samples are handled with precision and in accordance with established protocols to support high-quality research outcomes.</li><li>
Contribute to ongoing quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) activities to maintain the integrity, reliability, and traceability of biospecimens.</li><li>
Collaborate closely with senior Biobank staff and investigators to troubleshoot issues, resolve workflow challenges, and improve laboratory processes.</li><li>
Operate laboratory equipment safely and confidently.</li><li>

Key Qualifications</b></p><ul><li>

About the MSK Biobank</b>: The Biobank is MSK&rsquo;s centralized facility for the processing, storage, and distribution of human biological specimens from cancer patients. While the Biobank does not conduct investigative research itself, it plays a critical role in supporting investigators across MSK by providing high-quality biospecimens for research studies.</p><p></p><p>
The <b>cfDNA Laboratory</b> processes blood collected for research studies and isolates <b>circulating cell-free DNA (cfDNA)</b>, which are small DNA fragments found in the bloodstream. These molecules serve as important biomarkers for cancer detection, tumor profiling, and monitoring disease progression. Each specimen stored in the Biobank is linked to demographic and clinical information, including the patient&rsquo;s diagnosis, treatment history, and treatment response.</p><p>
The Biobank adheres to rigorous quality control standards to ensure biospecimens are processed consistently for all investigators using this shared resource.</p><p><br>

JOB SUMMARY</b><b>:</b></p><p>
The Laboratory Technician is responsible for the collection, processing, handling, storage, and shipment of biological specimens in support of clinical research studies. This role ensures strict adherence to study protocols, Good Clinical Practice (GCP), and laboratory regulatory standards while maintaining high-quality sample integrity and accurate documentation.</p><p><b>
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION:</b></p><p><b>
Required:</b></p><ul><li>High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate&rsquo;s or Bachelor&rsquo;s degree in a scientific field preferred</li><li>Minimum 1&ndash;2 years of phlebotomy and/or laboratory experience (clinical research experience preferred)</li><li>Knowledge of GCP, IATA shipping regulations, and laboratory best practices preferred</li></ul><p><b>
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:</b></p><p><b>
Specimen Collection &amp; Patient Interaction</b></p><ul><li>Perform venipuncture (phlebotomy) and other protocol-required specimen collections</li></ul><p>

Sample Processing &amp; Handling</b></p><ul><li>Process biological samples per protocol (centrifugation, aliquoting, freezing, etc.)</li><li>Ensure timely handling to preserve specimen integrity</li><li>Maintain temperature logs for freezers, refrigerators, and ambient storage areas</li><li>Perform routine equipment checks and calibration documentation</li></ul><p><b>
Shipping &amp; Logistics</b></p><ul><li>Prepare and ship specimens according to IATA and sponsor guidelines</li><li>Complete all required shipping documentation and chain-of-custody logs</li><li>Coordinate with central labs and couriers to ensure timely delivery</li><li>Troubleshoot shipping discrepancies or delays</li></ul><p><b>
Inventory &amp; Kit Management</b></p><ul><li>Maintain inventory of laboratory kits, supplies, and consumables</li><li>Track kit lot numbers, expiration dates, and study-specific requirements</li><li>Ensure proper storage and organization of kits</li><li>Reconcile kit usage and maintain accountability logs</li></ul><p><b>
Documentation &amp; Compliance</b></p><ul><li>Accurately document all lab activities in source documents and/or electronic systems</li></ul><p>
