This position performs responsible work providing Jefferson-Madison Regional Library (JMRL) Bookmobile and Outreach Services, under the general supervision of the Bookmobile and Outreach Services Manager.</div><p></p>

Work also includes operating the bookmobile and outreach vehicle to deliver materials and programming to various locations in Vance County. Work requires considerable knowledge of the collections in assigned area, a working knowledge of computer software used in typical office environments, email, and the internet and for learning activities from early childhood through adult. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent and one (1) year of related experience supplemented by college level course work, experience with office computers, and considerable experience in library work, preferably in assigned area, and assisting patrons; or equivalent combination of education and experience.</p><p><b>
Licenses or Certifications:</b></p><p>
Possession of a valid North Carolina driver&rsquo;s license.</p><p><b>
Special Requirements:</b></p><p>
Hours are 9:45am-6:15pm Monday and Wednesday-Friday, 11:45am-8:15pm Tuesday, and one weekend per month.</p><p>
Must be proficient in operating bookmobile (CDL not required).</p><p><b>
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:</b></p><p>
General knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other similar programs. Knowledge of books, materials and resources in area of assignment and working knowledge of the remainder of the library&rsquo;s collection. Knowledge of the Perry Library policies and procedures. Skill in providing reference services as requested in area of assignment. Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written forms. Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the widely varying patron demographic groups and their special needs. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors and coworkers, volunteers, library patrons and the general public. Ability to deal with confidential and sensitive matters.</p></div><p></p>

Starting salary will depend on qualifications and experience.The Library Associate performs clerical and paraprofessional library work in providing programming, reference, and outreach activities in the youth services department of the Perry Memorial Library serving Vance County and the City of Henderson. An employee in this class performs paraprofessional library work assisting the librarians to provide programs and services in the youth services department of the public library. Work also includes operating the bookmobile and outreach vehicle to deliver materials and programming to various locations in Vance County. Work requires considerable knowledge of the collections in assigned area, a working knowledge of computer software used in typical office environments, email, and the internet and for learning activities from early childhood through adult. Initiative, tact and diplomacy are required in providing a variety of services to patrons. Weekend and evening hours are required.

The position is essential for maintaining scheduled routes, providing circulation and resource sharing services, supporting community outreach, and assisting with daily operational needs. <br>How does it get done?

1. Provide quality library services on the Bookmobile to rural patrons using all appropriate and available resources.
<br>2. Conduct all library services in accordance to policies and procedures as well as tracking quarterly statistics.
<br>3. Assist in managing and building a library collection based on patron preferences and entering that collection in the Integrated Library System for check out by patrons and tracking of collection.
<br>4. Promote marketing and outreach of other programs for rural residents such as Books by Mail and Library for the Blind and Print Disabled.
<br>5. Help drive the bookmobile; schedule vehicular maintenance and repairs and maintains an ongoing log of work performed and dates.

Employment is subject to a pre-employment background investigation and is conditional pending results. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment. <br>Working Conditions
<br><br>
The position entails operating and driving a 31+ foot bookmobile on rural roads and highways. Must have the ability to climb, stand, reach, stoop, lift, and carry books on and off the bookmobile, including moving materials in and out of the bookmobile office. There is regular use of computers and telephones in a shared office space with closely positioned workstations. Work may involve exposure to extreme temperatures, noise, vibration, fumes, odors, and dust.
