Coordinate all administrative and logistics details, such as coordination of volunteers when needed, marketing and advertising, budget tracking, and leading project teams.Team Leadership: Work closely with Senior Librarians overseeing other units to provide support and guidance on services and leadership.PAYROLL/CLASSIFICATION TITLE: Librarian, Senior SUPERVISION EXERCISED / SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Incumbents serve as lead workers assigning work and monitoring work completion or, as assigned, serve as supervisors. Receives general supervision and is expected to prioritize work to meet deadlines and to keep the manager informed of issues that would impact achievement of a deadline, organizational policy or procedure or in consideration of risk management.DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: This classification is distinguished from the Librarian in that it serves as a lead worker and subject-matter expert in addition to providing professional library support services.WORK SCHEDULE: The normal work week is Monday through Thursday, 8-6 pm and every other Saturday, 8:45-5:45 pm. Staff will work some evenings. Depending on the work assignment, staff may be assigned to a shift that is outside the standard work hours. In addition, this position may be required to be available to work additional hours in response to peaks in workloads and changes in department needs. The standard work environment varies depending on assignment but is typically either primarily in an office setting or out in the field.</li>

<br>Knowledge of the methods, policies and procedures of the Department Nassau County as they pertain to the performance duties of the Branch Librarian. Knowledge of the functions and interrelationships of County and other Governmental agencies. Knowledge of the laws, ordinances, standards and regulations pertaining to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position. Ability to help ensure Departmental compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. Knowledge of the methods and practices of Public Library operations and administration, including acquisitions, cataloging, circulation, reference services, children’s and adult services, etc. Knowledge of the Dewey Decimal Classification. Knowledge of reference topics and resources and is able to assist patrons in locating and researching information as needed. Ability to consistently provide quality customer service to patrons as required. Ability to make sound, educated decisions. Ability to plan, organize and direct a professional and support staff. Ability to apply supervisory and managerial concepts and principles. Knowledge of administrative principles involved in developing, directing and supervising various programs and related activities. Ability to offer instruction and advice to subordinates regarding Departmental policies, methods and regulations. Ability to effectively use the internet and perform information searches online and in the Library database. Ability to use emerging technology for patron services. Ability to use a variety of software applications and to maintain awareness of new and changing technology. Ability to operate standard office and Library equipment such as computers, copiers, fax machines, etc. Ability to assist patrons with downloading e-materials to various devices. Ability to deal with diverse elements simultaneously. Ability to use electronic data. Ability to offer training and assistance to co-workers and employees of other departments as required.Ability to work in a team setting with the willingness and ability to assist and support co-workers’, contribute ideas and maintain flexibility. Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment. Skilled in public relations. Ability to take the initiative to complete the duties of the position without the need of direct supervision.
