Under the direction of the General Manager a Barista performs a variety of tasks specific to the successful operation of the Caf&eacute; following the prescribed guidelines for service.<h3 class="jobSectionHeader">
Roles and Responsibilities</h3><ul><li>
During the majority of the shift, this is an independent position with backup provided on an as-needed basis.</li><li>
Operates Caf&eacute; equipment and prepares coffee, specialty drinks, bottled drinks, and baked and prepared goods.</li><li>
Maintains a clean environment within local, state, and federal sanitation guidelines.</li><li>
Completes ongoing daily and weekly cleaning of food surfaces, machinery and utensils, and customer areas.</li><li>
Stocks and merchandises caf&eacute; in accordance with company policies and procedures, maintaining a straight, organized, and clean shopping environment.</li><li>
Greets customers entering the store and caf&eacute;, and provide exceptional customer service on each transaction.</li><li>
Successfully promotes all POS initiatives and company programs including, but not limited to discount cards, magazine sales, pre-sale vouchers, and donation programs.</li><li>
Balances cash drawer following each shift within allowable variances as identified in the Loss Prevention Policy.</li><li>
Assists the bookstore as needed.</li><li>

 The position of the Barista includes preparing beverages and other menu items, working the register, ensuring the cleanliness of the space as well as assisting staff when events are occurring in the space. This person should be able to maintain a calm demeanor during busy and unforeseen situations and should be flexible in hours and responsibilities while in the position.
 
 
 
 Essential Functions
 
 
 
 <ul>

 Prepare and sell menu items by following recipes and preparation techniques for all beverages, such as espresso drinks, lattes, cappuccinos, hot and iced teas, etc.
 </li>
 <li>
 Maintain inventories by replenishing supplies.
 </li>
 <li>
 Communicate with student manager about the needs of the space, including but not limited to materials and support.
 </li>

 Assist with events in the space.
 </li>

 Maintain a friendly work environment with staff.
 </li>

 Ensure the space is clean and free from excess trash, as well as keep the furniture organized and in proper formation.
