WHAT THE ROLE LOOKS LIKE
This position works 8-hour shifts that are typically from 7 - 3 or 8 - 4, weekend availability is required.
Qualifying for this full-time position is easy! We would just prefer some baking and food service experience as well as some experience working as a barista!
As a full-time Cafe Crew Member - Bakery Worker, you'll start early, mixing ingredients and monitoring baking times to ensure our pastries and bread are perfect for the morning rush. We are Spoke Bicycle Cafe, a restaurant, coffee shop, bike shop, and event venue in Frogtown/Elysian Valley, Los Angeles. We are located at the end of a dead end street in a funky neighborhood and face the LA River Bike Path. We are close to Dodger Stadium, Echo Park, Silver Lake, Chinatown, Atwater Village, Cypress Park, Glassell Park, and Glendale. We serve a full food menu with many vegan and omnivore selections, some of the best espresso in the city, local beer and wines, and more. We also operate a full-service bike shop on site where we repair bikes, sell accessories, build bikes, and rent bikes. There are two buildings on site with a huge patio in between. You wont need to know anything about bikes, but well-rounded experience is always a plus!We are looking for an experienced front of house worker to prepare and serve hot and cold beverages, including espresso, beer, wine, cocktails, and a variety of other items. There is also potential for crossover work if you have kitchen or bike shop experience. Must have references and cafe/restaurant experience. Barista experience required. Must have worked extensively on a coffee bar and be comfortable making drinks. Please do not apply without it. Responsibilities include educating customers on our menu, making recommendations based on their preferences, up-selling special items and taking orders. You will also do light food prep work, cleaning, and serve food. We are a counter service cafe with a very large outdoor patio. We get very busy on the weekends particularly, so the ability to work under pressure in busy conditions is a must. We have a small crew and all depend on each other to work hard and show up on time. Must be a team player, must enjoy helping your crew, must not get annoyed by customer requests and enjoy helping people. It's a big plus if you are a great cleaner and naturally organized. Restaurant and coffee shop experience required. You should be able to work various shifts. Weekends are required. We will be extending our hours in April, so we will soon be closing later on some of the days of the week.
