<b>Major Duties and Responsibilities</b>

The Campus Security Officer pay range is $49,428- $66,372 with steps A through M. Starting salary is step A, $23.67 per hour. This becomes your annual anniversary date and the following year (18 months after your start date) you move to step E, $26.10 per hour. After that, every 12 months you will move two steps until step L, $31.02 per hour. Once you are at step L for six years, you will progress once more to step M, $31.79 per hour. These amounts do not include any planned or future cost of living increases.</p>
<p>
Starting pay may be higher than step A with creditable related experience. However, employees starting higher than step A on the salary range will not have their first periodic step increase until 12 months after their start date. After that, every 12 months you will move two steps until step L.</p>

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS</b></p>

<p><b>DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS</b></p>
<ul>
<li>Associate degree in Criminal Justice from an accredited institution or Certification from the Criminal Justice Training Commission. Or an equivalent mix of education and experience that demonstrates the candidate meets all competency requirements for this position.</li>
<li>Knowledge of campus law enforcement, investigation procedures, rules governing public access to buildings and grounds, electronic security systems, rules of behavior, general safety precautions and fire hazards, methods and procedures for searching for violators, fire-fighting equipment and fire prevention methods, and first aid.</li>
<li>Two or more years of work experience as a campus security guard or equivalent experience, or work experience as a campus police or security officer or equivalent experience or training.</li>
<li>Experience in a higher education environment.</li>
</ul>
<p><b>PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS</b></p>
<ul>
<li>Work is commonly performed outdoors in uncontrolled elements or in a semi-open office setting with frequent interruptions and background noise.</li>
<li>Work is active.</li>
<li>Work directly with students/clients.</li>
<li>Frequent use of computers.</li>
<li>Move up to 25 lbs. frequently and up to 50 lbs. occasionally. Team lifts are encouraged and to be used at the employee&rsquo;s discretion.</li>

<li>Must be able to read and understand instructions to recognize and handle hazardous, unsafe or poisonous materials.</li>

<p><b>CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT</b></p>
<ul>
<li>Full-time schedule (12-month, 40-hours week).</li>
<li>Campus Security Officers work 8-hour shifts Monday &ndash; Friday between 6 am and 10 pm with weekends off. There are also 11 paid holidays.</li>
<li>Paid leave and accrual rates: 1 personal holiday, 2 personal leave days, vacation leave accrual starting at a monthly rate of 11 hours 20 minutes and sick leave accrual of 8 hours per month.</li>
<li>12-month probationary period.</li>
<li>This position is overtime eligible.</li>
<li>Requires local or regional travel.</li>
<li>Valid driver&rsquo;s license is required.</li>
<li>Criminal background check is required.</li>
<li>May be required to work alternate shift.</li>
<li>All uniforms and equipment are provided by the college.</li>
<li>Must be able to obtain certifications for equipment routinely used by Security staff including pepper (Oleoresin Capsicum) spray, tasers (conducted energy weapons, conducted energy devices or electronic control weapons), handcuffs, First Aid, CPR, and more. Training will be provided.</li>
<li>This position is covered under a collective bargaining agreement. Membership is optional.</li>
</ul>

Medical, dental, life and long term disability insurance benefits are provided as currently administered under Public Employees Benefits Board; WA State Retirement Plan; vacation and sick leave begin to accrue at the rate of one (1) day per month, upon employment. (For positions that are less than full time, leave accruals will be prorated to the percentage of the position.) This position is designated a bargaining unit position and union membership is not a condition of employment. Leave accruals and usage are governed by the WFSE collective bargaining agreement.</p><br>
