Cath Lab
Works under the supervision of the Assistant Director Cardiology. Performs a variety of technical procedures that will require independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative to apply and prescribe ionizing radiation for radiological procedures in the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory. Should be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his/her unit.
<ul><li>Assists in performing diagnostic fluoroscopic angiographic procedures, coronary and peripheral interventions and Electrophysiology procedures in the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory.
</li></ul><ul><li>Assists in caring for patients in preparation for cardiac procedures. Assists in monitoring patient condition pre- and post-procedure. Reports changes in the patients condition to physician or R.N. for follow-up.
</li></ul><ul><li>Assists in preventative maintenance of Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory equipment. Reports all equipment malfunctions to Assistant Director and calls for services if indicated.
</li></ul><ul><li>Assists with supply management.
</li></ul><ul><li>Works as an integral part of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory team, knowing the responsibilities of each team member and being able to perform these responsibilities as needed.
</li></ul><ul><li>Initiates effective CPR measures and is familiar with the location and use of all emergency equipment.
</li></ul><ul><li>Assists in implementing and maintaining the Q.I. program related to radiological equipment and on-going department initiatives.
</li></ul><ul><li>Adheres to established hospital safety standards by following safety procedures/techniques in utilizing equipment and supplies and in performing procedures and body mechanics as well as reporting any unsafe condition immediately to the patient care manager.
</li></ul><ul><li>Operates equipment according to the protocol of the procedure being performed. Assists physician with all Cath Lab procedures. Demonstrates knowledge of sterile technique.
</li></ul><ul><li>Pulls contrast media as appropriate for procedure.
</li></ul><ul><li>Should be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his/her unit.
</li></ul><ul><li>Performs other duties as assigned.

Education: Graduate of CAHEP accredited CVT program or Completion of 2 (two) years Radiologic Technology training program approved by AMA required.
 
 
Licensure:
 
For Radiologic Technology program graduates: CRT and Fluoroscopy required. And any combination of two (2) of the following credentials required: CI credentials from ARRT; or RCES, or RCIS credentials from CCI; or CEPS certification from IBHRE required. Current BLS/Healthcare Provider status as per American Heart Association standards required.
 
 
For CVT program graduates: Any combination of two (2) of the following credentials required: 
 
CI credentials from ARRT; or RCES, or RCIS credentials from CCI; or CEPS certification from IBHRE required. Current BLS/Healthcare Provider status as per American Heart Association standards required.
 
 
Experience: Minimum of 1-year Cardiac Catheterization Lab experience and 1 Year Electrophysiology experience preferred.
Pay Range: The hourly rate for this position is $59.35 - $71.42. The range displayed on this job posting reflects the target for new hire salaries for this position.

The Cardiac Monitor Technician is an essential member of the patient care team, responsible for the safe and efficient transport of patients, with a specialized focus on continuous cardiac rhythm monitoring during transport. This role also support the operational flow of the facility through stocking duties, specimen transport, and maintaining a clean operating room environment, as well as transporting non-cardiac monitored patients.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
<ul><li>Transports patients throughout the facility. This includes transporting patients on cardiac monitors from their rooms to testing sites and back on a scheduled basis; accurately analyzing and interpreting ECG rhythms according to procedure, during transport, and transporting non-cardiac monitored patients as needed. (70%)
</li><li>Performs continuous observation, interpretation, and communication of cardiac rhythms for patients being transported on a cardiac monitor. (10%)
</li><li>Assists in maintaining a clean operating room environment by performing duties such as wiping down surfaces, tidying equipment, and ensuring areas are ready for the next case, under the direction of OR staff (10%)
</li><li>Transports specimens safely and efficiently to the appropriate laboratory or department. (5%)

Minimum

<div>As an integral part of the clinical care team, the Cardiovascular Specialist I is responsible for preparing a patient for invasive cardiac procedures, assisting the health care team in hemodynamic monitoring during the case, and maintaining equipment and supplies.
1. Maintain sterile techniques to prepare room, equipment table, and provide quality care to patients.

2. Monitor equipment to ensure appropriate working conditions and during procedures. Alert the care team of any changes.

3. Retrieve supplies under the direction of physicians and nurses during the procedure as needed.

4. Maintain stock at par level in the procedure room by restocking rooms after each procedure with items used during the procedure. Restock lab area as needed.

5. Participate in product evaluations.

6. Count the number of revolutions during a rotablator procedure.

7. Turn on and check all equipment at the beginning of the day. Trouble-shoot problems and immediately contact the appropriate person to repair equipment

8. Check the monitoring equipment, intravascular ultrasound, pacemakers and IABP pump in working condition. Trouble-shoot problems and immediately contact the appropriate person to repair the equipment.

9. Assist in the transport of patients and transfer of patients to the procedure table.

10. Perform assignment according to established guidelines

a. Assist cardiologist with selective procedures.

b. Apply principles and practices of asepsis.

c. Perform surgical scrub, gowning, and gloving procedure.

d. Set up sterile instrument table and prepare supplies according to type of procedure.

e. Assist in draping of patient and procedure area according to need.

11. Perform other duties as required.

<li>Bachelor's degree strongly preferred. Foreign MD who has passed MBBS examination may substitute.</li>
<li>Registered Cardiovascular Specialist (RCIS/RVS) preferred.</li>
<li>Minimum of 2 years of Mount Sinai experience in Cardiac Cath or EP lab.</li>

Medical Surgical Cardiology Unit (4 RCP) &ndash; Gold Beacon Unit:
4RCP is a 47-bed unit providing care for adult medical cardiology, cardiac and thoracic surgery patients requiring telemetry monitoring, temporary cardiac pacing, vasoactive and anticoagulant medication infusions. The unit provides care to postoperative patients including esophagectomies, Nissen fundoplications, thoracotomies, heart transplantation, coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), valve replacements and transcatheter aortic valve replacements (TAVR). 4RCP also provides care to patients with cardiomyopathy, pulmonary hypertension, chest pain, post percutaneous coronary interventions, as well as arrhythmia management.
