The Cardiac Monitor Technician is responsible for telemetry monitoring management including initiating monitoring, rhythm strip interpretation, identification of changes in rate, rhythm or dysrhythmia necessitation notification of the RN and simple troubleshooting of telemetry monitoring equipment. The Monitor Technician assists with reception, computer and unit secretary functions. Monitor Tech - Full Time Days

Olympia Fields Hospital

Responsibilities: 
The Monitor Tech is an unlicensed person who performs indirect care in the department setting. Monitors cardiac rhythms via direct cardiac monitors. Meets the communication needs of the department. Transcribes physician orders in the absence of CPOE and EMR clinical documentation system. Verifies that lab tests and radiology tests have been ordered and done. Prepares and complies records in the ER. Orders supplies for the unit and prepares and completes each patient's chart for necessary forms needed on a daily basis. Able to assist nursing staff with indirect patient care duties as long as the activity does not distract from primary responsibility for dysrhythmia monitoring. *Note: May provide direct patient care under the direct supervision of the RN within scope of Certified Nursing Assistant if 1) possesses active CNA certification; 2) demonstrates annual competency in CNA duties and skills and 3) is relieved of Monitor Technician duties during the time of assisting the RN.
 
Qualifications: 
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING
 
1. High School Diploma or Equivalent or related experience required for all new hires, effective April 2014.
 
2. Current Dysrhythmia Interpretation Certificate within 30 days of hire and maintain current

The Telemetry Monitor Technician (TMT) works in a support role to the RN who is providing nursing care to the patients on the unit. The TMT provides accurate monitoring of patients cardiac rhythm including prompt recognition and action for arrhythmias that are detrimental to the patient. Demonstrates clinical competency, compassion and customer service orientation, maintains focus on process and outcomes, and demonstrates cost consciousness when providing service to patients. The TMT will assist in the care and maintenance of departmental area, equipment and supplies.
Under general supervision, the TMT will perform job duties and adhere to Remote Telemetry Policies and Procedures.
Responsibilities:
1. Confers with department ordering Remote Telemetry in order to gather pertinent patient information data, including history of heart problems, code status, diagnosis, room number, and if patient has a pacemaker.
2. Selects and prepares telemetry box for application to patient and inputs correct patient information into the Remote Central Monitoring Station (RCMS). |
3. Applies heart monitor to patient when initiating monitoring whenever possible. |
4. Explains remote monitoring process to the patient, answering questions and allaying concerns. |
5. Reflects respect for patients&rsquo; rights, dignity, values, culture, preferences, and expressed needs|
6. Accurately recognizes cardiac rhythms, documents and posts strips as defined by the Remote Telemetry monitoring process; acts promptly to intervene for the patient by notifying the room RN, SWAT, and Code Team as deemed necessary. |
7. Maintains all equipment in clean and proper working order, replenishing supplies as needed. |
8. Notifies a supervisor of equipment malfunctions. |
9. Prompt retrieval of telemetry boxes from patient/ unit upon patient discharge or discontinuation of remote telemetry monitoring. |

The Monitor Tech is an unlicensed person who performs indirect care in the department setting. Monitors cardiac rhythms via direct cardiac monitors. Meets the communication needs of the department. Transcribes physician orders in the absence of CPOE and EMR clinical documentation system. Verifies that lab tests and radiology tests have been ordered and done. Prepares and complies records in the ER. Orders supplies for the unit and prepares and completes each patient's chart for necessary forms needed on a daily basis. Able to assist nursing staff with indirect patient care duties as long as the activity does not distract from primary responsibility for dysrhythmia monitoring. *Note: May provide direct patient care under the direct supervision of the RN within scope of Certified Nursing Assistant if 1) possesses active CNA certification; 2) demonstrates annual competency in CNA duties and skills and 3) is relieved of Monitor Technician duties during the time of assisting the RN.
 
Qualifications: 
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING
 
1. High School Diploma or Equivalent or related experience required for all new hires, effective April 2014.
 
2. Current Dysrhythmia Interpretation Certificate within 30 days of hire and maintain current
 
3. Current BLS (AHA) certificate upon hire and maintain current
 
4. Six months previous experience in Healthcare or as Monitor Technician
