The Electrophysiology/Arrhythmia (EP) APP position in the Betty Irene Moore Children&rsquo;s Heart Center is an opportunity to join a dynamic, collaborative, and supportive team of electrophysiologists and APPs in delivering state-of-the-art heart rhythm care for children and their families. This position is located in Palo Alto, CA at Lucile Packard Children&rsquo;s Hospital - Stanford (LPCH) and involves supporting the EP service in both outpatient, inpatient, and perioperative settings.
The EP patient population primarily served by LPCH includes children with structurally normal hearts and patients with congenital heart disease from birth through early adulthood (~21 years). Through our partnership and collaborations with the Stanford Medicine Adult Congenital Heart Disease (ACHD) Program, we also service patients with congenital heart disease and heart rhythm abnormalities later into adulthood. Common diagnoses include supraventricular tachycardia, ventricular tachycardia, inherited arrhythmia syndromes (Long QT Syndrome, Brugada Syndrome, CPVT), and various cardiomyopathies (hypertrophic, dilated, and others). As part of the Betty Irene Moore Heart Center, we see the full spectrum of congenital heart lesions and care for a diverse and vibrant patient population.
Specific duties for the Electrophysiology APP role at Lucile Packard Children&rsquo;s Hospital Stanford include:<ul><li>
Preoperative history taking, physical exams, diagnostic testing, and education for families and patients undergoing procedures in the Electrophysiology Laboratory (EP Lab).</li><li>
Postoperative management and discharge for patients having undergone procedures in the EP Lab.</li><li>
Interrogation and management of implantable cardiac rhythm devices including pacemakers, implantable cardiac defibrillators, and implantable loop recorders in the outpatient, inpatient, and device implant procedure settings (on-the-job-training will be offered)</li><li>
Other duties as needed to support the Electrophysiology service (patient advice via phone calls, MyChart, medication refills, etc.)</li></ul>
This position allows for many learning opportunities include weekly educations conferences, monthly APP Grand Rounds, and regular case conferences. Additional opportunities include involvement in the local and broader APP community at both Stanford Children&rsquo;s Health and national organizations.
The ideal candidate is a motivated and self-directed practitioner with excellent communication skills, clear judgment, and extensive attention to detail. There is potential to expand the APP role beyond the duties listed above, such as to include outpatient EP clinic or inpatient EP consultations, or in other ways that align with the interests of the successful applicant.
All APP experience levels will be considered. Previous cardiology or EP experience is preferred, but not mandatory.

Performs or requests and evaluates diagnostic studies as indicated upon evaluation of the patient.</li><li>
Administers, orders, furnishes and prescribes medications.</li><li>
Orders and collects specimens for routine laboratory tests, screening procedures and therapeutic procedures, including blood and blood products.</li><li>

D. Supervision:<ul><li>

Standardized procedures, approved by the supervising physician(s) and the IDPC, are a mandatory mechanism of supervision. Other mechanisms of supervision used may be:</li><li>
Direct on-site, electronic or phone supervision by a supervising physician. A physician cannot supervise more than four (4) NP/PAs at one time.</li><li>
Chart screens on random charts by the supervising physician or designee.</li><li>
Chart audits on random charts as an integral part of selected quality improvement programs.</li><li>
Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation (OPPE) through tracking of performance indicators.</li><li>
The NP/PA will receive a formal annual performance evaluation by the Lead Advanced Practice Provider (Lead APP), Director of Advanced Practice or supervising manager/director with input from the Lead APP, supervising physician(s) and/or physician delegates, APP peers and the supervising manager/director. Has a Collaborative Relationship with a physician based on employment in clinical practice in the NP role at Mount Sinai Hospital. If there is a documented work history as a Nurse Practitioner with greater than 3600 practice hours. Please note all NPs regardless of their status will be placed on an FPPE initially)

Education:

Master's degree program designed to prepare a NP to diagnose, treat, and prescribe for a patient's condition that fall within their specialty area of practice or the successful completion of an approved supplemental education program, i.e., post-Masters NP certificate.

Experience: Previous progressive experience relevant to the area of clinical practice required.

For all NPs hired effective June 1, 2019, National Board Certification in Advanced Practice Nursing required.
