Tasked with maintaining endoscopic equipment the endoscopy technician helps to ensure patient safety and care throughout the procedure. The technician also assists the doctor during procedures.

 Monitors levels of all endoscopy instruments and supplies. Follows written procedures for high-level disinfection and chemical and biological monitoring. Performs treatments and procedures within the defined scope of practice. Provides supportive care to patients under the direct supervision of a registered nurse and physician. Ensures the endoscopy suite is adequately prepared for procedures. Prepares the room in a timely manner with all anticipated supplies and equipment for each endoscopy procedure. Demonstrates competence in the care and accurate handling of specimens. Checks all equipment and instruments needed prior to each procedure to ensure proper functioning. Assists in positioning, prepping, and draping patients for endoscopy procedures. Maintains an orderly environment and anticipates the needs of the physician during procedures. Demonstrates proficiency in the setup of multi-specialty endoscopy procedures. Other duties as assigned.  The Care/Endoscopy Technician is a part of the perioperative team and performs patient care in support of the rest of the care team. The tech prepares and maintains the interments, equipment, and sterile environment necessary for gastroenterology procedures.
 
 
 
 What You Will Do

 Prepares Preop and PACU for the planned surgical day. Assembles charts accurately, gathers appropriate labels, lab data, H &amp; P, etc., for the chart as soon as available. Shows initiative in completing the chart assembly. Anticipates the unit&rsquo;s needs for the day. Has O2 tanks and CPM pads readily available day as evident by feedback from leadership, coworkers, and peers.
 </li>

 Assists with and performs patient care including collection of patient information, accurate reading and documentation of vital signs, and recording input and output activities and treatments on the EMR.
 </li>
 <li>
 Performs Preop Interview within scope of practice. Refers appropriate questions to nursing or anesthesia staff when unsure of clinical data as evidenced by leadership, nursing, and anesthesia feedback.
 </li>

 Assists the physician in the performance of advanced procedures such as colonoscopies and endoscopies. Assists with the collection of specimens and prepares specimens for pathology. Assists with therapeutic intervention such as balloon dilations and polypectomy.

 Sterilizers and prepares rooms and equipment, such as scopes, before and after procedures.

A clinically competent Endoscopy Lab Scope Reprocessing Technician who works under the supervision of the RN in delivering skilled and effective reprocessing of OES and Video Endoscopes, use of reprocessing machines and all related functions. Responsibilities:<ul><li>
Maintains competencies in the reprocessing of endoscopes and operating the scope washers.</li><li>
Identifies actual or potential problems with the integrity of the endoscopes and assists the charge nurse in orchestrating repair.</li><li>
Maintains documentation regarding the inventory and repair of endoscopes.</li><li>
Uses proper patient identification procedures in transporting of patients.</li><li>
Safely transports patients by wheelchair or stretcher.</li><li>
Demonstrates support and awareness of daily schedule by expediting on time starts and efficient turnover between procedures. Demonstrates knowledge of endotherapy supplies and equipment.</li><li>
Locates, obtains, and restocks supplies and equipment.</li><li>
Performs services requiring technical and manual skills under the direction of a physician and/or nurse.</li><li>
Maintains a clean and orderly environment.</li><li>
Assists the nurse in the preparation of the patient prior to and after the procedure.</li></ul>
Qualifications
Required:<ul><li>
High school graduate or equivalent</li><li>
CPR &ndash; Basic Life Support</li></ul>
Preferred:<ul><li>
Bachelor of Science Degree</li></ul>
