Contributes to the organization by floating to multiple locations as needed, working closely with the ophthalmologist to perform basic, advance, and complex preliminary tests and measurements of the eyes. <p>American Vision Group is currently seeking an Ophthalmic Technician to join our team. We are a reputable national eyecare provider that works with some of the country's most respected eye care practices. We aim to help healthcare providers concentrate on delivering exceptional medical care. As an Ophthalmic Technician, there&rsquo;s a range of primary duties, which includes preparing patients to see an attending physician (preliminary exam, medical history, &amp; testing), preparation of examination and treatment rooms, performing basic and routine vision screening examinations, administering eye medications, cleaning, and maintaining ophthalmic instruments and assisting physicians during surgical and laser procedures. The position reports directly to the Practice Administrator and Clinical Manager.</p><p><b>OPHTHALMIC TECHNICIAN RESPONSIBILITIES: </b></p><p>&middot; Performs complete ophthalmic history and preliminary exams, sub-specialty tests (refraction, A-Scan, Topography, Pachymetry, IOP check, BAT/Glare testing).</p><p>&middot; Verifies patient information by interviewing patients, recording medical history, and confirming purpose of visit.</p><p>&middot; Accurately records all information in EMR system according to established standards and physician requirements.</p><p>&middot; Checks condition of patients' eyes by observing pupils, muscle, visual acuity, extraocular movements.</p><p>&middot; Prepares patients for ophthalmology examination by dilating pupils, changes in visual acuity, elevated extraocular pressure, or blood pressure and communicating results to attending Physician.</p><p>&middot; Secures patient information and maintains patient confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records, completing diagnostic and procedure coding, and keeping patient information confidential.</p><p>&middot; Counsels&rsquo; patients by transmitting physician's orders, use of drops, contact lenses, drugs, and answer questions about surgery and specialty imaging required/ordered.</p><p>&middot; Maintains a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures along with complying with legal regulations.</p><p>&middot; Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance, and promptly reporting equipment issues.</p><p>&middot; Performs set a standard number of patient work-ups based on established times while maintaining the quality of customer service.</p><p>&middot; Maintains stock in exam room in accordance with standard inventory and Physician preferences.</p><p>&middot; Maintains sterilization of instruments.</p><p>&middot; Sets up and prep for procedures to include setting sterile tray and maintaining sterile field.</p><p>&middot; Must be able to work at alternative locations as needed.</p><p>&middot; Perform other duties and assume various responsibilities as determined by the team lead and Doctor.</p><p><b>OPHTHALMIC TECHNICIAN QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:</b></p><p>&middot; Prior experience as an Ophthalmic Technician.</p><p>&middot; Experience in a Medical setting (preferably in an Ophthalmology practice).</p><p>&middot; Ophthalmic Certifications preferred: Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA), Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT), Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT)</p><p>&middot; Strong knowledge of medical office procedures.</p><p>&middot; Knowledge of customer service principles and practices.</p><p>&middot; Possession of strong problem-solving skills and sound judgment.</p><p>&middot; Ability to achieve team goals while demonstrating organizational values and utilizing resources responsibly.</p><p>&middot; Ability to be proactive and take initiative.</p><p>&middot; Possession of strong organizational skills.</p><p>&middot; Excellent verbal and written communication.</p><p>&middot; Exhibit a high level of quality through attention to detail and monitoring of work.</p><p>&middot; Ability to work independently on assigned tasks as well as to accept direction on given assignments.</p><p>&middot; Deals with confidential information and/or issues using discretion and judgment.</p><p>&middot;Travel to our other clinics as needed in Weston, Pembroke Pines, Aventura and Ft. Lauderdale.</p><p><b>MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:</b></p><p>&middot; High school diploma required.</p><p>&middot; Preference for 1-2 years of Ophthalmic Technician experience.
