 The <b>Ophthalmic Technician II</b> must have a minimum of five + years as an ophthalmic technician and have achieved their Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) certification. This role will perform all duties and functions of an Ophthalmic Technician I. Effective execution of this role will require the ability to multitask and respond to the needs of the patients, doctors, and other staff efficiently and calmly. The Ophthalmic Technician II may also be required to support training efforts of other clinical staff as needed.</p><p><br>
</p><p><b>Responsibilities</b></p>

<li>Make introductions and establish rapport with patients
</li><li>Initiate patient evaluation, documenting the chief complaint, history of present illness, review of systems, and all pertinent ocular findings accurately and in accordance with compliance guidelines.
</li><li>Perform pre-exam testing to include visual acuity assessment, including pinhole and glare testing, confrontational visual field testing, assess extra ocular muscles, pupillary evaluation, tonometry, assess angles, pupillary dilation, and all other patient services as requested by the physician including specialty tests such as color vision screening, stereopsis, and dry eye testing
</li><li>Perform lensometry and specialized testing such as visual fields, keratometry, A/B scans, and ophthalmic photography optical coherence tomography (OCT), and optical biometry

</li><li>Perform retinoscopy and refractometry. Assist with minor surgical procedures or laser treatments in the office
</li><li>Assist with fitting contact lenses and instruct patients in care and insertion of lenses
</li><li>Complete requests for prescription refills as authorized by physician, with full documentation in patient chart
</li><li>Educate patients regarding administration of medications and pre- and post-operative instructions as directed by physicians

As an <b>Ophthalmic Scribe</b> you will provide accurate documentation and summarization of the examination and recommendations, while maintaining patient flow and communication regarding appointment status.</p>
<p>
Responsibilities</p>
<ul>
<li>Make introductions and establish rapport with patients</li>
<li>Initiate patient evaluation, documenting the chief complaint, history of present illness, review of systems, and all pertinent ocular findings accurately and in accordance with compliance guidelines</li>
<li>Accurately and thoroughly document medical visits and procedures as they are being performed by the physician, and other procedures</li>
<li>Communicates with patients regarding follow up care, surgeries, procedures, changes in schedule, signs and symptoms, surgery schedules</li>
<li>Maintains and cleans all ophthalmic equipment being used</li>
<li>Ability to document and apply correct ICD-10 and CPT Codes</li>
<li>Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously, with strong attention to detail.</li>
<li>Effectively navigate NextGen software or applicable EHR</li>
<li>Complete requests for prescription refills as authorized by physician, with full documentation in patient chart</li>
<li>Educate patients regarding administration of medications
</li><li>Check temperature of medical refrigerator daily</li>
<li>Maintain and conduct inventory of medications and supplies</li>
<li>Assist with maintenance of clinical examination equipment</li>
<li>Clean surgical instruments in preparation for sterile processing</li>
<li>Inspect instruments periodically for damage, send for repair, and request a replacement, as necessary</li>
<li>Open and close exam lanes daily, ensuring equipment is wiped down in an appropriate manner and as per office procedures, battery powered instruments are seated properly in re-charge wells, slit lamps and projectors are switched off under covers</li>
<li>Follow all safety procedures as per guidelines</li>
<li>Prioritize building and maintaining a positive relationship with doctors and clinical colleagues</li>
<li>Executes duties of position in a professional and courteous manner</li>
<li>Handles sensitive information in a confidential manner</li>
<li>Perform other tasks and duties as assigned</li>
</ul>
<p>Qualifications:</p>
<ul>
<li>High School diploma or equivalent required.</li>
<li>Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate clearly and effectively with patients, staff, managers, and doctors.</li>
<li>Basic computer literacy required.
</li><li>Highly energetic with a positive attitude.</li>
<li>Must be willing to travel to other offices occasionally to meet the demands of business.</li>
<li>Must be able to walk and stand for eight hours.</li>
<li>Must be able to type or write legibly in a dimly lit setting.</li>
<li>Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) preferred
</li><li>Certified Ophthalmic Scribe (OSC) preferred/Ability to obtain certification within one year of employment</li>
<li>Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) preferred</li>
<li>Two years as medical scribe preferred</li>
<li>Knowledge of ophthalmology billing/coding strongly preferred</li>
<li>NextGen or applicable EHR experience preferred</li>
</ul>
