DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES</b></h1><ul><li>
Assists with checking sterile surgical supply, operating room stocking, inventory, special supply orders and placing routine supply orders. Responsible for the care and handling of all surgical instruments and must be competent in equipment decontamination, assembly, and sterilization practices.</li><li>
Demonstrates knowledge of and practices aseptic technique, and standard precautions. Follows all manufacturers&rsquo; recommendations when processing instruments and supplies. Performs biological monitoring and keeps accurate and complete documentation on all loads sterilized.</li><li>
Assembles and wraps instrument trays and/or sterilization pouches with correct documentation. Examines instruments to assess for needed repair, removes broken instruments from service, replaces broken instruments, and reports to Asst. Nurse Manager of needed replacement items. Keeps records of room temperature and humidity; alerts supervisor of any deviation of acceptable ranges. Keep records of downtime of sterilizers, repairs, and reports outcome associated with equipment monitoring. Cleans sterilizer per schedule. Performs weekly testing to monitor effectiveness of automatic washers.</li><li>
Serves as expert in instrument/equipment sterilization; stays current on all Sterile Processing practices governed by AORN, JCAHO, AAMI, and CDC. Networks with Purchasing Department and Central Supply staff. Participates in all educational offerings associated with sterile processes.
</li><li>Serves as resource person for all staff associated with proper care and handling of instruments and readily educates those staff in SPD concepts. Participates in patient care conferences/staff meetings as needed. Serves as expert on all sterilization equipment and practices.
</li><li>Performs Endoscopy duties associated with care and handling of endoscopes and supply inventory per physician orders. Assists in registered nurse during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures from team perspective.

The role you'll contribute:</p><p>
Under supervision, the Endoscopy Technician -Advanced Practice is the primary assistant to the physician performing the procedure. They possess the knowledge and skills for assisting the physician on advanced endoscopic procedures for patients with complex digestive health issues with minimal direction.</p><p>
The Endoscopy Technician - Advanced Practice participates with patient care in the Endoscopy procedure room by performance of technical and other delegated duties.</p><p>
Trains his or her peers. Maintains, cares for, and disinfects all scopes and equipment.</p><p>
Adheres to the Florida Hospital Corporate Compliance Plan and to all rules and regulations of all applicable local, State and federal agencies and accrediting bodies.</p><p>

Assists the physician in performing advanced endoscopic procedures performed on high acuity patients including but not limited to: Grade Ill Complex ERCP procedures, SPYGiass (cholangioscopy), complex endomucosal resection, Sphincter of Oddi manometry and pancreatic endotherapy (stenting), Ultrasound-guided interventions, and Peroral endoscopic myotomy procedures, double balloon enteroscopies, endosuturing, Cystgastroscopy (irrigation and removal of necrotic tissue resulting from pancreatic pseudocyst), ESD (endoscopic submucosal dissection), Endoscopic Vac therapy, Overstitch (Endoscopic Suturing).</p><p>
appropriately selects and operates the appropriate equipment and accessories for advanced procedures. Troubleshoots equipment issues as needed. Anticipates needs of physician during the procedure to assist with obtaining biopsies, passing stents, and obtaining images.</p><p><br>
Uses procedure-specific lasers and selects appropriate laser fibers and supplies for the procedure. Adheres to all safety standards related to the use of the laser. Collaborates with the Florida Hospital Laser Safety Officer to provide annual safety in-services for Endo staff.</p><div><ul><li><br>
Participates in national teaching conferences and live training courses with physicians and department team members. Acts as preceptor or trainer for other technicians learning advanced procedures. Hosts observers in the clinical setting to facilitate learning procedure techniques and processes. Assists physicians and facilitates learning in porcine labs.</li></ul></div><ul><li>Provides safe. clean, tested and inspected items by performing the following decontamination functions: accurately operates instrument washers and disassembles and cleans with appropriate solutions and methods. Maintains all records relating to the monitoring and testing of the decontamination/disinfection process.</li></ul><p>
Applies knowledge and ability for appropriate care and handling of instruments and scopes by inspecting for cleanliness, damage and proper function. Ensures leak testing is done on all scopes. Maintains records on scope and instrumentation maintenance.</p><p><b><br>
