The major responsibilities of the Child Development Teacher will be to care for infants and toddlers requiring specialized knowledge and skills to properly address the cognitive, social, and emotional developmental needs of this age group.</p><p><b>

When administering medications, the staff member must:</li><li>
Read the label and prescription directions in relation to the required dose, frequency, storage, and other circumstances relative to administration.</li><li>
Use age-appropriate administration techniques to gain the child&rsquo;s cooperation; and</li><li>
Document that medication, in fact, was administered.</li><li>
Maintains an open, friendly, and cooperative relationship with each child&rsquo;s family, encourage their involvement in the program, and promote parent-child bonding and nurturing parent-child relationships.</li><li>
Promotes feelings of security and trust in infants and toddlers by being warm, supportive, and comforting, and by establishing strong and caring relationships with them.</li><li>
Provides toddlers with experiences and opportunities that allow them to develop curiosity, initiative, problem-solving skills, and creativity, as well as a sense of self and a feeling of belonging to the group.</li><li>
Conducts developmental screenings of infants and toddlers&rsquo; motor, language, social, cognitive, perceptual, and emotional skills.</li><li>
Plans and prepares healthy and safe activities and provides supplies needed, according to lesson plans.</li><li>
Prepares and delivers the disinfecting solutions for all classrooms in the morning on a daily basis.</li><li>
Develops and teaches weekly lesson plans for each child according to early childhood and assessment tool standards.
</li><li>Reports any unsafe or potentially unsafe areas inside or outside to include broken or non-working equipment.</li><li>
Assures that parents sign-in on the right day and times in and out are documented by parent.</li><li>
Maintains proper hygiene in children and all equipment and space used for care of children.</li><li>
Reports suspected neglect, abuse, medical conditions/illnesses immediately.</li><li>
Maintains assigned child&rsquo;s portfolio and other documentation as specified by requirements.</li><li>
Responsible for maintaining an average daily attendance of at least 85 percent in applicable programs</li><li>
Encourages parents to always have their child(ren) in class. When the child is absent, staff inquires as to the reason(s) for the absenteeism.</li><li>
Responsible for reporting to supervisor any patterns of absences or any special circumstances surrounding absenteeism.</li><li>
Responsible for initiating and documenting appropriate family support procedures for all children with four or more consecutive unexcused absences. These procedures include home visits or other direct contact with the child&rsquo;s parent(s).
</li><li>Participates in pre-service training, plans, and participates in start of the year programming, conducts home visits, oversees execution of health examinations, screening, and immunization activities, including maintenance of records, and conducts other duties as assigned.</li><li>
Actively encourages parents to participate in two home visits annually for each child enrolled in a center-based program option. These home visits must be initiated and carried out by the child&rsquo;s teacher. The major purpose of the home visits is to enhance the parental role in the growth and development of the child. (Positions in PCEP do not require home visits.)</li><li>
Files and tracks program required information in the family folder.</li><li>
Attends staff training as required.</li><li>
Incorporates, in a consistent manner, the procedures as part of the daily classroom operations and instruction.</li><li>
Ensures that procedures are followed in accordance with State and Federal regulations and that all performance, program and licensing standards are followed consistently.</li><li>

Work closely with Lead Teacher to maintain program quality, adhering to State Licensing regulations title 22, developmental profiles for all children and the National Association for the Education of Young Children Accreditation Standards. Plan, prepare and implement age-appropriate activities in daily curriculum areas such as: language, art, dramatic play, multicultural and social justice awareness, manipulative toys, block play, problem solving, science, nutrition and outdoor play. Observe and document using current assessment tools. Constantly monitor safety factors and required adult-child ratios. Create and maintain a warm and positive classroom environment which is inclusive and promotes mutual respect. Acknowledge and respect the integrity of each child and encourage the development of positive self-image to allow the child to explore and learn comfortably and successfully.</p><p>
Assist children with hygiene (washing, diapering, toileting); monitor health needs of children and assist with meal/snack service. Monitor adult and child working areas to ensure they are safe, sanitary, and orderly. Follow established health &amp; safety procedures for handling emergencies as identified in the ECEC Handbook. CLASS CHARACTERISTICS</b></p><p>
This is a journey-level class that provides care, guidance and developmentally appropriate learning and socialization experiences for children to encourage and facilitate positive physical, intellectual, social and emotional development. Positions at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. This class is distinguished from Child Development Center Teacher in that incumbents in the class provide support to the teachers.</p><p><b>

Must possess mobility to work in classroom and playground setting, use playground and standard classroom equipment, including a computer; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate standard office equipment. Must possess the physical stamina to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, climb, and walk on uneven surfaces to participate in instructional and care activities; and push and pull drawers open and closed to retrieve and file information. The Research Assistant I will be responsible for providing research support to the Principal Investigator (PI) and the Co-Directors of the Infant Neurodevelopment Center. The individual will perform a variety of duties in support of the research goals, objectives and protocols related to the funded study, Posthemorrhagic hydrocephalus of prematurity (PHHP): Elucidating neurocognitive and neurobehavioral phenotypes with robust longitudinal assessment. A considerable degree of responsibility, flexibility, and independence is required to carry out the diverse duties that are assigned. This staff member must have the ability to grasp the rationale for the methods used and must pay careful attention to details of the methods. This staff member will assist with IRB applications, IRB continuing reviews, and IRB changes to research, as well as assisting with preparations of progress reports to the funder. This staff member will assist with database design, data entry and cleaning, as well as data analysis, and preparation of presentations and manuscripts. This staff member will read and understand the scientific literature necessary to complete this study. Reliability and the ability to work well with multiple investigators are essential.</div><br>

Responsibilities:

1. Assist the Infant Neurodevelopment Center by collaborating on all aims of the study Posthemorrhagic hydrocephalus of prematurity (PHHP): Elucidating neurocognitive and neurobehavioral phenotypes with robust longitudinal assessment that is funded through the Hydrocephalus Association.

2. Assist with the coordination and communications of this research project in accordance with the funding agency&rsquo;s award statement, including the recruitment of participants, implementation of all aspects of study protocols, and communications with collaborating investigator teams.<br>
3. Assist with the acquisition and maintenance of all data collected for this research study.<br>
4. Assist with developing databases, data entry, data tracking, and data cleaning.<br>
5. Assist with training new students and volunteers on all aspects of the research protocols.<br>
6. Assist with literature reviews, and writing up the results of ongoing studies, including submissions to conferences, peer-reviewed publications, and grants.<br>
7. Assist with the preparation of presentations to internal and external outside agencies for educational and recruitment purposes.</div>
Qualifications:
