This position may be filled at any level from a Child Protective Services Family Based Safety Services Worker Specialist I to a Child Protective Services Family Based Safety Services Worker IV. Factors such as education and experience may be considered when establishing the starting salary.
This position will be in a mobile unit which means the majority of the work will be conducted using mobile technology, such as a tablet, while away from the office. Being mobile requires working independently yet still being responsive to supervision and your assigned unit.
Newly hired DFPS employees in eligible positions will be assigned a DFPS cellular phone.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This role requires frequent travel to homes and offices both within and outside your assigned region. Reliable transportation and a strong willingness to travel are essential, as you can expect to be on the road about 60% of the time. While much of your travel will be local, there will be instances&mdash;including last-minute situations&mdash;where you&rsquo;ll need to go outside your assigned counties, sometimes with little notice. Some overnight travel is also required, especially during initial training held outside your area and as cases demand. About the Role
 
This role can be both challenging and deeply rewarding. As a CFSS, you will support families involved with the child welfare system, primarily due to concerns of abuse and/or neglect. You will assess safety, work collaboratively with families and community partners, and promote permanency and well-being for children. You will frequently travel to and meet with families in their homes, attend community meetings, participate in multidisciplinary team discussions, and be involved in legal proceedings, including providing court testimony when necessary.

</li></ul>Work Schedule &amp; Flexibility
The training schedule is generally Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. During this period, occasional after-hours field experiences and case-related responsibilities may be required. Following the completion of training, flexible work hours are available. Evening hours may be necessary to accommodate the needs of assigned families. This position also requires participation in an on-call rotation, which includes weeknights, weekends, and holidays.
Work Environment &amp; Expectations
As a CFSS, you will sometimes enter homes that are in poor or unsanitary conditions and may encounter emotionally difficult situations. Worker safety is a top priority, and training and protocols are in place to prepare and support staff in the field.
You must be able to engage effectively with children and adults from diverse backgrounds, including those experiencing crisis, trauma, or instability. In some situations, you may be required to care for children temporarily while coordinating their transition to safe and appropriate placements.
While the work can be demanding, you will always have support. Ongoing supervision, training, peer support, and collaboration with law enforcement and legal partners help ensure both staff safety and effective outcomes for families. Family, Youth, and Children (FYC) staff members help individuals, families, and the community to ensure the safety and well-being of Sonoma County children and teens. They investigate reports of child abuse, neglect, or abandonment and, when needed, provide compassionate care placement with foster parents or residential programs. Child Protective Services Social Workers in FYC may be assigned to one or more programs within the Division and may work from a variety of regional offices located in the County. The Division provides a wide spectrum of protective, regulatory, preventative, and placement services, including but not limited to:

Job Description:

The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is hiring outstanding individuals to join our Hotline team. Hotline Specialists are essential to getting information to the correct departments. Rate is $21.836 and will increase to $25.607 after Training. This is a P/T overnight position. Hours will be day for the first month at least and then will go to schedule (11:00pm -8:00 am). Job duties/Examples of Work
<ul><li>CFS Hotline Specialists answer and receive all abuse and neglect hotline calls and reports coming in via mail, eFax, website, and email.
</li></ul><ul><li>Gathers necessary information from incoming callers using professional interviewing skills and knowledge to seek collateral information from others. Provide customer service to callers, collateral contacts and professionals, Law Enforcement and other stakeholders that hotline staff come in contact with on a daily basis.
</li></ul><ul><li>Using critical analysis, the hotline specialist will determine the urgency of the call and ensure proper LE and HHS response to immediate safety for children and vulnerable adults. Provides de-escalation and assessment over the phone and referrals to community agencies, resources or other information as needed.
</li></ul><ul><li>May be required to work non-traditional hours, shifts and holiday. Assesses and ensures child, youth and vulnerable adult safety, permanency and well-being while making reasonable efforts to solidify, preserve, strengthen and maintain family unity.
</li></ul><ul><li>Reviews all accessible information in NFOCUS and other data sources to assess the history and other risk factors involved with the abuse and neglect report. Analyzes all gathered information and apply the SDM Intake tool to make a screening and priority decision and determine any immediate safety action needed. Contacts law enforcement as needed. Distribute all intakes to proper law enforcement and the local DHHS office
</li></ul><ul><li>Make all contacts needed for priority 1 intakes and ensure LE is informed of community crime and immediate safety issues. Provides technical assistance and support. 
</li></ul> 
Requirements/ Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications : A Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, sociology, counseling, human development, mental health care, education, criminal justice or another closely related area. Consideration will be given to applicants who are enrolled in the final semester of their Bachelor's Degree. Promotion to the Child and Family Services Classification is contingent on successful completion of degree requirements and required training.
Preferred Qualifications : 2 Years of child support experience, SDM IA and Intake trained, knowledge of NFocus. At least one year experience working children and families. Experience in child welfare and/or case management experience, internships with human services/child welfare agencies will also be considered, demonstrated ability to handle high levels of stress and emotionally volatile situations, problem-solving skills, and resiliency to provide excellent written and verbal communication, and ability to effectively manage time and deadlines. Experience with SDM (Structured Decision Making) and SOP (Safety Organized Practice) a plus.
Other : Ability to provide independent travel to occasional training is required. Evening/ Overnight Hours This is a P/T position.
This will include some Weekends and Holidays.
Knowledge/Skills and Abilities:
<ul><li>Knowledge of the principles and practices of social work, psychology, sociology, counseling, human development, mental health, education, criminal justice, or related area of the applied social/behavioral sciences.
</li><li>Ability to: learn the importance of commitment to individuals and families; learn the importance of families/individuals having normal life experiences that are consistent with age, gender, culture and community setting; learn the value and importance of families/individuals having the right and ability to make decisions; protect confidential information; communicate electronically, on paper or in person with customers, co-workers, supervisors and staff to exchange case information and assessments; listen to and understand communication;
</li>Work effectively with community service providers, law enforcement, the court and legal systems and vulnerable adults&rsquo; families and/or advocates; organize and maintain case records; learn and apply the principles and practices of direct case management including assessment, analyzing critical information.
