Essential Functions: 
<ul>
<li>Provide comprehensive assessment of client’s therapeutic needs.</li>
<li>Develop individualized treatment plan being certain to engage children, families and CWS staff in the process. This process must also take into consideration the reasons the child/family are/were involved in the child welfare system, past and current safety and risk concerns, and the permanency/treatment plan for the child.</li>
<li>Provide direct counseling and therapeutic services to individuals, families and groups as indicated by the assessment and treatment plan. Location of service delivery (whether home, office, or community) is based on client needs, relevant program plans and requirements.</li>
<li>Complete and submit all required reports, documentation and billing accurately and timely as required by LSSI and funding sources. Includes completion of written reports detailing client’s progress as required by applicable policies/procedures and/or when required by juvenile court.</li>
<li>Participate in supervisory process for guidance, direction, support, and approval of decision-making, assessment, treatment planning and intervention. Provide DSM 5/ICD-10 diagnosis for assigned clients.</li>
<li>Demonstrate professional, positive behavior and carry out responsibilities with integrity, treating clients, families, other LSSI workforce members, and collaborative organizations and/or individual in a dignified, respectful, honest, and fair manner.</li>
</ul>
Position Qualifications: 
<ul>
<li>Master’s degree in social work or related human services field. Able to perform functions with greater clinical expertise and functions more independently than CWS.</li>
<li>Three (3) or more years post graduate experience working as a therapist preferred.</li>
<li>Licensed as a LCSW, LCPC, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, LSW, or Licensed Clinical Psychologist. If staff member is not licensed at the time of employment, he/she will be supervised by a licensed employee with the goal of obtaining the appropriate licensure within a two-year period from date of hire.</li>
<li>Demonstrated ability to independently perform functions using clinical experience and expertise.</li>
<li>Demonstrated ability to communicate in a clear, comprehensible manner, bother verbally and in writing.</li>
<li>Knowledge of DSM 5/lCD-i 0 and their applications, under the supervision of a licensed clinician.</li>
<li>Excellent organization, presentation, and pc/computer skills, including experience using Microsoft Office (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) along with other related software.</li>
<li>Background check clearance, both criminal and CANTS required.</li>
<li>Valid driver’s license, in good standing for the state of residency required.</li>
<li>Access to reliable transportation required.</li>
<li>Valid IL statutory minimum liability insurance coverage, bodily injury and property damage required.</li>

 <div>The UAA Child Welfare Academy is accepting applications for a Trainer. We are seeking applicants who have an understanding and ability to work with a highly charged political arena of child protection; skill to communicate with all levels of experience and responsibility within the organization, and to work with many partners in the child welfare system, including the legal arena.

The UAA Child Welfare Academy (CWA) trains and develops professional workers who work with Alaska's children and families to assure children are safe and families are strong. 
 
This position will provide state of the art training and staff development to new and existing State of Alaska Office of Children's Services (OCS) professional protective services workers, licensing specialists, and social service associates. This may also include OCS supervisors and managers, and partner agencies (law enforcement, child welfare agencies, early childhood and tribal partners) throughout Alaska. 
 
A successful candidate must have the ability to function independently within a complex, multifaceted statewide organization as trainer and partner in development of best practice modules. Understand and ability to work with a highly charged political arena of child protection; skill to communicate with all levels of experience and responsibility within the organization, and to work with many partners in the child welfare system, including the legal arena. Must know federal and state child welfare laws and regulations, NASW Code of Ethics, Federal policy, procedures and child welfare best practices.

To thrive in this position, the ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the OCS practice model. 
They will need to be adaptable to change and be able to think critically about how they will manage change. They must value teamwork and the ability to collaborate with peers. They also need to be open to new learning and feedback from all levels: supervisors, peers, and the learners we instruct.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master of Social Work (MSW) or Master's degree in related field with three years of child welfare experience, or Bachelor's Degree in Social Work or related field with four years of child welfare experience with one of those years in supervision of child welfare.

Position Details:

This is a full-time, term-funded, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 81, based on education and experience.

The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is seeking compassionate and committed individuals to join our team as Child and Family Services Specialists (CFSS). These professionals provide essential support to children and families through trauma-informed case management and advocacy. This work has traditionally been known as Child Protective Services. This vital role directly supports our mission of Helping People Live Better Lives.
 
 
About the Role
 
This role can be both challenging and deeply rewarding. As a CFSS, you will support families involved with the child welfare system, primarily due to concerns of abuse and/or neglect. You will assess safety, work collaboratively with families and community partners, and promote permanency and well-being for children. You will frequently travel to and meet with families in their homes, attend community meetings, participate in multidisciplinary team discussions, and be involved in legal proceedings, including providing court testimony when necessary.
 
 
Salary:
 
Trainee starts at $21.836 with an increase to $25.607 after successful completion of training.

Key Responsibilities
<ul><li>Serve as a case manager for families referred to DHHS.
</li><li>Conduct home visits and comprehensive safety assessments in diverse community settings.
</li><li>Advocate for the well-being of children and families while respecting cultural and individual diversity.
</li><li>Apply family-centered practices and actively involve families in decision-making.
</li><li>Collaborate with the legal system and other partners to support case permanency goals.
</li><li>Utilize Structured Decision Making (SDM) tools to inform safety planning and case decisions.
</li><li>Write timely, accurate, and professional documentation for internal and legal use.
</li><li>Connect families to formal services and informal supports based on assessed needs.
</li><li>Promote normalcy and permanency for children in care.
</li><li>Apply trauma-informed and least-restrictive approaches to strengthen family functioning and resilience.
</li></ul>Work Schedule &amp; Flexibility
The training schedule is generally Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. During this period, occasional after-hours field experiences and case-related responsibilities may be required. Following the completion of training, flexible work hours are available. Evening hours may be necessary to accommodate the needs of assigned families. This position also requires participation in an on-call rotation, which includes weeknights, weekends, and holidays.
Work Environment &amp; Expectations
As a CFSS, you will sometimes enter homes that are in poor or unsanitary conditions and may encounter emotionally difficult situations. Worker safety is a top priority, and training and protocols are in place to prepare and support staff in the field.
You must be able to engage effectively with children and adults from diverse backgrounds, including those experiencing crisis, trauma, or instability. In some situations, you may be required to care for children temporarily while coordinating their transition to safe and appropriate placements.
While the work can be demanding, you will always have support. Ongoing supervision, training, peer support, and collaboration with law enforcement and legal partners help ensure both staff safety and effective outcomes for families. Even when you are in the field on your own, assistance is just a phone call away.

<div>In this position you will be implementing initial action plans on new intake calls, conducting follow-up visits and review of existing cases, conducting CPS investigations, and assuring clients have access to service providers. You will provide and/or coordinate services and goals for families to help strengthen and stabilize the family unit to prevent out of home placement and to work cooperatively with families to ensure the safety of children, while encouraging healthy family environments, so that the family unit may remain intact.
