In this position, you will perform essential work in the planning and design of a variety of transportation projects that will allow you to collaborate across the organization. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Assistant Director- Special Projects. This position works closely with other Cary departments and will utilize GIS software to update, maintain, and run analyses related to Cary infrastructure and assets.</p></div><br>

Develops, performs, and presents GIS-based spatial analyses, maps, 3D models, and visualizations supporting transportation and capital infrastructure projects.</li><li>
Produces and updates maps, graphics, record drawings, legal plats, easements, and other technical documents.</li><li>
Plans, Designs, and creates detailed 3D digital models and full plan sets for complete streets, public utilities, municipal facilities, stormwater systems, and related infrastructure projects.</li><li>
Assists with civil engineering planning and design tasks, including estimating, scheduling, material calculations, and bid-related computations.</li><li>
Analyzes survey data, aerial imagery, and engineering drawings to support project design, documentation, and decision-making.</li><li>
Collaborates with engineers, managers, consultants, contractors, and field staff on public infrastructure and GIS data development.</li><li>
Maintains GIS data integrity through quality control, schema development, workflow support, and processing field changes.</li><li>
Provides GIS support across departments, including data exports, research requests, training, troubleshooting, and customer service.</li><li>
Assesses Transportation GIS assets to determine deficiencies and propose enhancements to data quality or workflow processes.</li><li>
Participates in development review, project scoping meetings, committees, and task forces as needed.</li><li>
Operates large-format printing/scanning equipment and maintain documentation of workflows and procedures.</li><li>

Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering Technology, Geography/Geospatial (GIS), Computer Science, or a related field, AND a minimum of 3 years of experience in working with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software.</p><p>
Preference will be given to candidates who possess any of the following:</p><ul><li>
Some experience in the creation of graphics with output to various forms including digital, web, and paper.</li><li>
Some experience with management of multiple geospatial datasets(Civil 3D, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, etc.).</li></ul><p><b>
Physical Requirements</b></p><p>
Work in this class is generally inside and sedentary. An employee must be able to move throughout town facilities freely to perform or observe work. An employee must have such visual acuity as to be able to make fine drawings, read and write handwritten and typewritten material, and be able to read a computer screen. An employee in this class must be able to talk and hear in order to be able to respond to the public and other employees.</p><p><b>
