Public Rights Project (PRP) is a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that helps local government officials fight for civil rights. JOB SUMMARY
Public Rights Project seeks to hire a Staff Attorney to join its Civil Rights Hub. The Staff Attorney will support Civil Rights Hub responsibilities, including performing legal research and writing, coordinating resources for local jurisdictions and leaders, and advising jurisdictional partners on a wide array of civil rights matters. The ideal candidate has strong legal writing skills, can prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment, and demonstrates excellent judgment about what information needs immediate attention.
The Staff Attorney will work across multiple civil rights issue areas. The Staff Attorney will be expected to produce high-quality written work product, including amicus briefs, memoranda, and legal analysis, while managing competing priorities and deadlines. In addition, the position will require strategic thinking to best provide a spectrum of both legal and non-legal support for our partners and thinking through how best to equip local governments with the tools and resources they need to fight for their communities.
This position does not include formal supervisory responsibilities, though the Staff Attorney will work independently and collaboratively with other team members.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES<ul>

Advise, counsel, and support PRP government partners (cities, counties, elected officials) on civil rights matters;</li>
<li>
Conduct legal research and provide guidance and analysis across a range of civil rights issues and jurisdictions;</li>

Draft persuasive legal documents including amicus briefs, memoranda, legal analyses, and other written work product;</li>
<li>
Identify opportunities for CRH advocacy and strategize pathways to action;</li>
<li>
Participate in coalition work with diverse partners, including government officials, community-based organizations, and advocacy groups;</li>

Exercise judgment to filter and prioritize information for leadership, managing up effectively;</li>

Identify opportunities for CRH advocacy and assist with case selection and strategy;</li>
<li>
Support PRP&rsquo;s communications about the CRH, including through public speaking, conversations with the press, and drafting press statements, &ldquo;explainers,&rdquo; and op-eds (as needed);</li>

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE<ul>
<li>
Licensed to practice law in a jurisdiction of the United States</li>
<li>
At least 4+ years of relevant experience as an attorney. Relevant experience may include: Litigation experience, including brief writing, work at nonprofit organizations, government agencies, or law firms focused on civil rights, civil litigation, or related areas</li>
<li>
Experience in reproductive rights, LGBTQI+ rights, disability rights, or similar civil rights areas is a plus</li>

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP
This position reports to a Senior Attorney in the Civil Rights Hub. This position will also work closely with the rest of the CRH team and other program teams.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Requires sitting, talking, and listening for up to 8 hours per day. Certain situations may require lifting items up to 20 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Fully remote organization and team. This role may require travel a few times a year to PRP events, case hearings, or meetings. We currently have remote staff in Boston, Chicago, Kansas City (MO), Los Angeles, New York, Oakland, Seattle, and Washington, DC, as well as other cities. Work pace can be intense during periods of urgent response (e.g., weekend brief drafting), balanced with periods of lower intensity.
COMPENSATION
The determined salary range for this role is set at $82,735-$111,935 (for internal equity, PRP will not engage in salary negotiations; salaries are presently set based on years of experience).

The ACLU seeks applicants for the term-limited, full-time position of Staff Attorney or Senior Staff Attorney in the Voting Rights Project of the ACLU&rsquo;s National office in New York, NY or Washington, DC. This is a two-year, term-limited position. This is a hybrid role that has in-office requirements of two (2) days per week or eight (8) days per month.

Established in 1965, VRP has worked to protect the gains in political participation won by voters of color since passage of the 1965 Voting Rights Act (VRA). Since its inception, the Voting Rights Project has litigated hundreds of voting rights cases, and has aggressively and successfully challenged efforts to suppress voting or to dilute minority voting strength.

The ACLU Voting Rights Project was established in 1965 &ndash; the same year that the historic Voting Rights Act (VRA) was enacted &ndash; and has litigated more than 350 cases since that time. Its mission is to build and defend an accessible, inclusive, and equitable democracy free from racial discrimination. We have three principles: (1) all Americans should be eligible to vote; (2) voting should be free and easy; and (3) all people should count equally. The Project employs an integrated advocacy approach, combining legislative advocacy, public education, and litigation, and has active cases in over a dozen states.

The Voting Rights Project&rsquo;s recent docket has included more than 30 lawsuits to protect voters during the 2020 election; a pair of recent cases in the Supreme Court challenging the last administration&rsquo;s discriminatory census policies: Department of Commerce v. New York (successfully challenging an attempt to add a citizenship question to the 2020 Census), and Trump v. New York (challenging the exclusion of undocumented immigrants from the population count used to apportion the House of Representatives); challenges to discriminatory congressional and state legislative maps, including two recent cases in the Supreme Court: Alexander v. South Carolina NAACP (2023), challenging South Carolina&rsquo;s congressional map as an unconstitutional and starkly racially gerrymandered map; and Allen v. Milligan (2023), successfully challenging Alabama&rsquo;s congressional map as unlawfully diluting the Black voting power under Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act; challenges to voter purges and documentary proof of citizenship laws; and challenges to other new legislation restricting voting rights in states like Georgia and Texas. JOB SUMMARY 
Public Rights Project seeks to hire one or more Staff Attorneys to join its Litigation Team. The Staff Attorney will be a key member of PRP&rsquo;s team advancing the work of local governments protecting civil rights in the face of hostility from the federal government, as well as state governments and private actors. The Staff Attorney will conduct and support case development and research, work with partners, and manage and contribute to various litigation and pre-litigation activities. The Litigation Team handles cases in which government clients are both plaintiffs and defendants, in both state and federal courts. This position reports to the Litigation Director and will work closely with members of the Litigation Team and other Program Team staff.

JOB SUMMARY 
 
Public Rights Project seeks to hire a Managing Attorney for Reproductive Rights to join our team. This is a remote, full-time, exempt position reporting to the Director of the Civil Rights Hub. PRP partners with local governments to protect and expand reproductive rights and defend against attacks while training government officials to advocate effectively and advancing public narratives that center issues pertaining to reproductive rights and bodily autonomy.
The Managing Attorney, Reproductive Rights, will be responsible for managing the reproductive rights strategy and portfolio and advance PRP&rsquo;s legal work (litigation, amicus briefs, and policy), relationship management and collaboration (local government leaders and advocates) and communication on a range of reproductive rights issues to diverse audiences. The ideal candidate has extensive experience in reproductive rights and movement lawyering, prioritizes effectively in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment, and works independently and collaboratively towards effective advocacy and strategies. 
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES<ul>

Develop and implement PRP&rsquo;s reproductive rights legal strategy:<ul>
<li>
Work closely with the CRH Director to manage case selection and strategy development, including strategic litigation designed to advance public narrative even when traditional legal victories may not be possible.</li>

Conduct legal research on reproductive rights issues across a range of jurisdictions and advise partners (cities, counties, elected officials).</li>

Identify opportunities for reproductive rights advocacy at the local level across the country and execute with government and advocacy partners.</li>

Support and potentially manage litigation in state and federal court.</li>

Experience working in coalition spaces and navigating competing interests, particularly in reproductive rights movements</li>

COMPENSATION, BENEFITS &amp; SPECIFICATIONS
This is a full-time, fully remote, exempt role with a salary range of $102,176 - $153,263. The exact salary will be based on the candidate's experience. The ACLU seeks applicants for the term-limited, full-time position of Staff Attorney, Senior Staff Attorney, or Senior Counsel in the Criminal Law Reform Project of the ACLU&rsquo;s National office in New York, NY, Washington DC, or San Francisco, CA. This is a 2-year, term limited position. This is a hybrid role that has in-office requirements of two (2) days per week or eight (8) days per month.

The Criminal Law Reform Project&rsquo;s mission is to advocate for the constitutional and civil rights of those impacted by criminal legal systems. We use litigation and advocacy to confront systemic government conduct that fuels the carceral state and police abuse, and oppresses people based on race, class, and other characteristics. CLRP does this work because everyone suspected, accused, or convicted of a crime deserves dignity, fairness, and an opportunity to thrive.

<li>Experience with data analysis as an advocacy or litigation tool</li>
<li>Experience with complex litigation, such as civil rights class actions or other forms of impact litigation.</li>
