 The Clinic Medical Assistant is responsible for scheduling patient appointments and maintaining clinic schedule and workflow for specialty providers per practice guidelines. Determines the purpose of appointment and schedules or directs patient to appropriate department. Responds to and coordinates incoming referrals in collaboration with nursing and provider staff. Prepares patient records for scheduled appointments allowing productive patient appointments. Answers and appropriately triages incoming department phone calls. Job DescriptionLocation: Farmersville ClinicThe Medical Assistant agrees to represent the agency with service excellence as an integral member of the clinic care team. They will work collaboratively with clinical and non-clinical staff to assist in reducing barriers, solving problems, and the promotion of the health and well-being of a panel of patients. The medical assistant provides direct patient care services and performs specifically designated independent procedures.Patient Relationships:<ul><li>Prepare patients for examination including the identification of the chief complaint, vital signs, height, weight, etc. The assistant obtains a medical, social and family history and documents in the electronic medical record. All medications are documented in the electronic chart and updated and reconciled at each visit.  General Summary

 The Medical Assistant functions within his/her skill set in providing patient care as delegated by the clinic LPN/RN, physician or mid-level provider (APP). Must be well organized, display&rsquo;s a high level of professionalism, excellent customer service skills, detail oriented, able to multitask efficiently, critical thinker and able to perform in a fast-paced work environment.

 Essential Duties And Responsibilities
 
 
 
 <ul>
 <li>
 Follows established hospital policy regarding patient safety measures such as infection prevention, safe patient handling and movement, notification of the licensed nurse when patient condition changes to ensure that patient care is provided in an optimally safe environment.
 </li>
 <li>
 Provides direct interaction to patients in the clinic including escorting patients to rooms, obtaining vital signs, EKG&rsquo;s, verification of medications, allergies, past medical/surgical/family history and chief complaint/visit reason according to provider preference, documenting accurate information in the patient chart in a timely manner.
 </li>
 <li>
 Routes phone messages, patient questions, and telephone communications to appropriate personnel.
 </li>
 <li>
 Acts as a general liaison between physician/APP and patient. Calls patients with normal/abnormal test results, answer&rsquo;s questions and assisting physician with return calls.
 </li>
 <li>
 Assists with renewal and authorization of medications and administers medications (oral, IM and SQ) as ordered.
 </li>
 <li>
 Performs point of care lab testing and obtains blood samples and other specimens for lab testing as ordered.
 </li>
 <li>
 Schedules appointments, surgeries, diagnostic procedures, and admissions (remove) as ordered by the physician. Completes necessary paperwork, prior authorization, referrals and documentation in a timely manner.
 </li>
 <li>
 Monitors supply inventory, assuring adequate supplies, cleans and stocks exam areas.
 </li>
 <li>
 Informs and sets up patients and/or guardian for My Chart at the time of service and informs and educates patients regarding the benefits of signing up for My Chart.
 </li>
 <li>
 Assists in orientating and training new medical assistants.
 </li>
 <li>
 Meets commitments, works independently, accepts accountability, handles change, sets personal standards, stays focused under pressure, works as a team and assists all team members (remove), and meets attendance/punctuality requirements.

 Education
 
 
 
 <ul>
 <li>
 Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant or Medical Specialist program required or equivalent amount of working experience as a Medical Assistant or Registered/Certified as a Medical Assistant. High school diploma.

 Work Experience

 <li>
 One-year Medical Assistant or other medical specialist experience preferred but not required. Medical Clinic experience preferred.
 
 
 </li>
 </ul>
 
 Certification/License

 Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) or a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) through an approved accrediting organization, such as the American Medical Technologist (AMT) preferred.
 </li>

 American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification required.

 Mental/Physical Requirements
 
 
 
 <ul>

 Considerable mental concentration required. Lifting up to 35 lbs., turning activities and nearly constant walking required. Standing, turning, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching.

 Frequent exposure to infectious disease and hostile persons at times. Frequent exposure to communicable disease via blood and other body fluids. Minimal physical discomfort.
