8. Performs EKG&rsquo;s, performs Point of Care (POC) tests and bladder scanning according to hospital standards. Collects, labels and prepares specimens for transport to lab. 
9. Phlebotomy in certain locations. 
10. Performs other selected unit specific procedures such as battery changes for telemetry units, checking status of unit equipment, cleaning equipment between patients and proper storage of supplies. 
11. Assists RN/Licensed Independent Practitioner with treatments and procedures by preparing patient; obtaining and setting up equipment and supplies, such as intravenous and hemodynamic lines, and utilize sterile technique when indicated. Help in positioning the patient and providing the patient with emotional support. Clean up equipment and supplies following the treatment and/or procedure. 
12. Observes, measures, records oral food and fluid intake. Sets up full strength tube feeding solutions and refills tube feeding bags as directed. Empties and records output, as approved, from a variety of sources, e.g., Foley catheter, ostomy appliances and drainage systems. Performs ostomy care on established ostomate patients as directed.
 
13. Demonstrates sensitivity and responsiveness to patients&rsquo; needs by acting as a source of information and approaches all interactions with the intention of building positive rapport and relationships. 
14. Provides respectful, culturally and age-appropriate communication with patients, staff, family, visitors and others. 
15. Replenishes patient and unit supplies and equipment. 
16. Requests assistance from identified resources when more direction is needed. 
17. Keeps current with hospital and unit changes by reading communication boards and/or books, bulletin boards, posted notices and reads and responds to UMMHC e mails on a regular basis. 
18. Has the ability to precept new Patient Care Technicians.

In order to use the titles of dialysis patient care technician or dialysis care technician or administer medications in a Medicare certified renal dialysis facility, a person shall hold one of the following certifications: 1. Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician (CCHT) by the Nephrology Nursing Certification Commission (NNCC); 2. Certified Hemodialysis Technician (CHT) by the Board of Nephrology Examiners Nursing and Technology (BONENT); 3. Certified in Clinical Nephrology Technology (CCNT) by the National Nephrology Certification Organization (NNCO); or 4. Certification or licensure as a dialysis technician or similar title by another jurisdiction in the United States provided the standards for certification or licensure or substantially equivalent to those in Virginia.
 
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Float Pool gives the opportunity to develop clinical assessment skills as well as sharpen skills in communication and teamwork. Health care workers who are compassionate, hard-working, and flexible will find working on this unit very rewarding!
Units you may float to based on experience:
ED, ICU, TCU, PCU, all Med-Surg units, and Acute Rehab.
Qualifications:<ul><li>
Education: High school diploma, G.E.D., CNA/CPCT or enrolled in a healthcare career program through their high school curriculum, and/or a current co-worker of Mercy.</li><li>
Experience: If no previous experience, Mercy will provide a required 175-hour training program that meets the state of practice Department of Health and Senior Services requirements. The program will be completed as part of the new hire orientation process and must be completed within 90 days of hire to remain in the PCT position per state guidelines.</li><li>
Certifications: BLS Required within one month of hire, completion of PCT competencies within 3 months of hire.</li><li>
Other: Minimum Physical Requirements- Position requires individuals to push, pull, and/or lift 50 pounds on a regular basis.- Position requires prolonged standing and walking each shift.- Position requires the ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties.</li><li>
Preferred Experience: EMT, Paramedic or Previous Patient Care Experience.- Preferred Certifications: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Advanced Unlicensed Assistant (AUA) in the state of practice, Certified Patient Care Technician (CPCT).</li></ul><h1 class="jobSectionHeader">
