<p></p><div><div>The City of Highland Village is hiring a<b> Part-Time Fire Inspector</b> to ensure our city remains safe while citizens visit our businesses. This community is a vibrant, family-oriented community in southern Denton County. You will serve our over 400 businesses and schools by connecting with them and ensuring all buildings are up to code.</div><div></div><div><br>
The duties of this position are to conduct life safety inspections in all commercial buildings and enforce compliance with the uniform fire and city codes. In addition, the Fire Inspector must communicate effectively, enforce fire codes and regulations, and use the maintenance record system effectively.</div></div><br>

<p></p><div><div><b>The Part-Time Fire Inspector must have the following:</b></div><ul><li>
A High School Diploma or GED</li><li>
Associate&rsquo;s degree in Fire Protection Technology, Criminal Justice, or a related field of study, or a minimum of sixty (60) college credits, is preferred.</li><li>
Must possess Fire Inspector through the Texas Commission on Fire Protection.</li><li>
Fire Investigator through the Texas Commission on Fire Protection is preferred.</li><li>
Knowledge of firefighting, fire prevention practices, and techniques, as well as considerable knowledge of fire laws, ordinances, rules, and regulations, is preferred.</li><li>
Must have good oral and written communications skills, ability to read and understand codes, knowledge of personnel policies, rules, regulations, and practices for regulatory agencies, and work with Standard Operating Guidelines.</li></ul></div><p></p>

<p></p><div><ul><li>Respond promptly and professionally to calls for service, providing appropriate law enforcement, safety, and customer service responses.</li><li>
Conduct proactive, high-visibility patrols by vehicle, bicycle, and on foot to deter crime, identify safety concerns, and maintain a secure campus environment.</li><li>
Engage in community-oriented policing by building positive relationships with students, faculty, and staff through daily interactions and participation in campus events.</li><li>
Enforce federal, state, and local laws, as well as College policies, including traffic and parking regulations.</li><li>
Investigate incidents by gathering evidence, interviewing involved parties, and preparing clear, accurate, and comprehensive reports.</li><li>
Make lawful arrests as necessary, file appropriate charges, and complete all required legal and departmental documentation.</li><li>
Provide service-oriented assistance, including parking enforcement, vehicle lockouts, jump-starts, and safety escorts.</li><li>
Conduct routine security checks of campus buildings and facilities, identifying and reporting safety, security, or maintenance concerns.</li><li>
Operate within the Communications Center as needed, providing dispatch and radio communication support.</li><li>
Safely operate, maintain, and ensure accountability of assigned equipment and departmental resources.</li><li>
Support and participate in campus safety education, prevention programs, and outreach initiatives.</li><li>
Collaborate with internal departments, behavioral intervention teams, mental health resources, and external law enforcement agencies to support coordinated response efforts.</li><li>
Remain available for emergency recall, special events, and critical incidents, including on-call responsibilities as assigned.</li><li>
Participate in ongoing training, certification requirements, performance evaluations, and professional development activities.</li><li>

<b>Physical Demands:</b> While performing the duties of this job, the Amarillo College Police Officer must be able to stand and walk for extended periods, including foot and bicycle patrols. The position requires the ability to run short distances, climb stairs, crouch, bend, stoop, kneel, and occasionally lift, carry, push, pull, or maneuver individuals and equipment weighing up to one-hundred (100) pounds. Officers must frequently use their hands and fingers to operate communication equipment, vehicles, firearms, and other law enforcement tools. Normal vision (corrected or uncorrected), hearing, and overall physical stamina are required to quickly detect, assess, and respond to incidents. The role also demands the physical capability to restrain or detain individuals safely in accordance with departmental procedures and training.<br>

<b>Working Conditions:</b> Must be willing to work a flexible schedule (days, nights, weekends, holidays, and varying events as necessary). The nature of police work involves a high degree of risk and can involve exposure to hazards such as criminal activity, emergency response situations, traffic stops, and a wide variety of calls for service. Officers may be recalled for duty during emergencies and are expected to remain calm and effective in high-stress circumstances.<br>

<b>Work Environment:</b> The work environment may involve exposure to physical hazards and requires strict adherence to safety protocols. Officers may encounter extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, loud noises, and unpleasant odors.
