<p></p><div><div><b>The Ramsey County Correctional Facility is hiring for part-time (intermittent) correctional officer positions. The hours consist of three shifts 0700-1500, 1500-2300 and 2300-07000.</b></div><br>
To maintain security and ensure the safety of residents and staff at the Ramsey County Law Enforcement Facility and the Ramsey County Correctional Facility; to observe and monitor resident behavior and supervise and facilitate their daily living activities; to maintain ongoing communication with those confined; to enforce all rules, regulations, and policies of the facility; and, to perform related duties as assigned.</div><p></p>
<div><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>Examples of Work Performed</b></h2></div>
<p></p><div><ul><li>Oversee residents during job assignments, meals, recreation, extra duty, and visiting to ensure the security and safety of s and staff; observes, monitors, records and reports any unusual resident activity or behavior.</li><li>
Conduct security check of buildings and grounds to ensure that residents are securely confined.</li><li>
Conduct shakedowns, search residents, living quarters, and work areas for contraband or weapons.</li><li>
Converse regularly with residents to ensure an atmosphere of open staff/resident communication; provides information to residents on rules, regulations and various programs available at the facility.</li><li>
Enforce the prescribed disciplinary practice of the facility, reporting and reacting to rule violations, and applying appropriate measures.</li><li>
Intervene in emergency situations such as fights, suicide attempts or fires by applying first aid, enforcing rules, restraining residents, responding to calls for assistance, or by notifying proper authorities such as police, medical facilities, case workers or administration.</li><li>
Administer lifesaving practices when necessary, records and distributes medicines, and carries out treatments and all other orders of medical personnel.</li><li>
Admit and orientate new residents, issues clothing, secures their property, informs them of the rules and directs them to living areas and job assignments</li><li>
Book, process, identify and release residents at the Ramsey County Law Enforcement Center.</li><li>
At the Ramsey County Correctional Facility assume the duties of specialty Correctional Officers relating to laundry, or kitchen, during scheduled or emergency absences.</li><li>
Assume responsibility of the facility in the absence of supervisory personnel in order to maintain the efficient operation of the facility.</li><li>
Maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal state and local standards.</li><li>
Position requires the ability to work shift rotations to maintain minimum staffing requirements.</li><li>
Mandated overtime to ensure adequate staffing coverage and maintenance of safety for residents at all times.</li><li>
May staff the central control area in order to monitor and report on resident behavior and controls the flow or movement throughout the facility by operating a public address system and electronically controlled gates.</li></ul><br>

Training and Experience Rating = 100%</b></li></ul></div>
The examination for Correctional Officer will consist of a training and experience rating, comprised of the questions in the attached supplemental questionnaire. Not all applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will pass the training and experience rating. The rating on this supplemental questionnaire will depend on your answers to the questions &ndash; do not mark &quot;see resume&quot; or &quot;see work history&quot; as a response. Please answer all your questions clearly and completely. Failure to respond could affect your score and final rank on this examination.<p><b><br>
Eligible List: </b>The names of all applicants who pass the examination/screening process and file a properly completed application shall be placed on the eligible list for employment as a Correctional Officer. This list will be certified by the appointing authority which may use this list to fill a vacancy. Candidates will remain on the list for one month or until hired, whichever occurs first. A notice will be sent to applicants at the time the eligible list is posted, informing them that the list has been posted. The names of all applicants who pass the examination with a score of 50 or higher will be forwarded to the department for further consideration.<br>

<b>Veteran's Preference: This is a classified position requiring an open, competitive selection process</b>. Veteran's Preference points will be applied after a candidate passes the examination process. Applicants who are eligible for veteran's preference should update their veteran's DD214, and other supporting documents, and submit them as an attachment at the time of application.<br>

Do you want to kick-start your career in Criminal Justice? Look no further! The Kentucky Department of Corrections is seeking motivated individuals who are up for the challenge.<br>
<br>
Correctional Officers fill a critical role within correctional institutions by working together as a team to maintain safety and control of offenders. This position is in the new medical institution located in Lexington Kentucky.<br>
<br>
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
<ul><li>Maintains control of the institution to provide safety and security of the facility inmates, staff, and general public by enforcing rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
</li><li>Supervises inmate activities in housing units, dining areas, recreation and work areas.
</li><li>Attends to the medical, visitation, personal property, and recreational needs of the inmates.
</li><li>Inspects and patrols the grounds for contraband, unauthorized personnel, and for other security risks.
</li><li>Completes required reports and daily logs.
</li><li>Conducts inmate counts, security rounds, and searches.</li></ul>
The ideal candidate for this position will have:

<ul><li>Shift Premium - $2.13 per hour
</li><li>Weekend Premium - $2.13 per hour

Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license to qualify for employment in this job classification. For the Department of Juvenile Justice, must successfully complete the Department of Juvenile Justice Training Academy within six months of employment. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. </div><div>Work environment is hazardous due to working in a state correctional facility with convicted felons or in a juvenile detention facility. May be exposed to hazards and dangers associated with operating a motor vehicle while providing transportation services.

</div><div>This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
