  POSITION DUTIES

 The Police Officer Supervisor at the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS) is the supervisory level of law enforcement work at a State facility. Employees in this classification supervise lower-level Police Officers and other security personnel. They supervise Law enforcement work enforcing laws, rules, and regulations governing the safety and protection of personnel and State property. Employees may be assigned to day, evening, night or rotating shifts which may include holidays and weekends. May also be subject to call-in and overtime based on staffing needs.

   Provide supervision for information and assistance to the public professionally and courteously.
  </li>

   Maintains a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.

   Ensures all staff attends required trainings and maintains all necessary law enforcement certifications.

   Manage POII and Security Attendant schedules and ensure ample coverage is provided for assigned locations/buildings
  </li>

   Ensure the correct Enforcement of all applicable federal, state, and local laws, as well as departmental policies and procedures.

   Direct, Patrol and monitor assigned DPSCS facilities to deter crime, maintain order, and ensure the safety of personnel and visitors.

   Respond to security alarms, incidents, and disturbances within assigned buildings, taking appropriate law enforcement action as necessary. Prepare detailed and accurate incident reports.

   Provide security escorts for personnel or sensitive materials as required.

   Communicate with the Watch Center, ID Detectives and other law enforcement officers

   Make arrests when necessary and follow proper procedures for the custody and processing of individuals.

   Assists in the development and implementation of policies, procedures and regulations for custody, security and/or treatment of detainees/inmates.

   Responds to major unusual occurrences. Facilitates prompt and appropriate assistance to detainees/inmates in the event of injury, illness or emotional trauma.

   Promotes an atmosphere conducive to personality and character development of detainees/inmates and staff through the encouragement of favorable behavior patterns, arrangement of physical facilities, and influencing relationships among detainees/inmates.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
<ul><li>Has functional supervision over and coordinates the work of employees or inmates for a specialized program or detail.
</li><li>Performs custodial security functions.
</li><li>Supervises and monitors activities of DJJ juveniles; assists juveniles in interpersonal skill development.
</li><li>Supervise Correctional Officers. Completes evaluations and approves time and attendance.
</li><li>Maintains shift logs on juvenile's activities and notifies supervisors of issues; completes incident reports as needed; assists juveniles in complaint procedures.
</li><li>Provides support services for routine maintenance, etc.; checks premises and ensures the safety of juveniles; attends staff meetings, case conferences and trainings.
</li><li>Assists in group counseling sessions and assignments.
</li><li>Transports juveniles to off campus outings, appointments, etc.
</li><li>Be able to exert physical effort in the proper restraint of residents based on behavior.
</li><li>May perform other physical efforts in assisting youth with recreational and work related projects.</li></ul>
Additional Information:
<ul><li>This position is deemed essential and has been designated for mandatory operations by the Appointing Authority; therefore, the incumbent is not eligible for Adverse Weather Leave.
</li><li>May be required to work overtime and any shift as needed and directed.
</li><li>Required to successfully complete the Department of Juvenile Justice Training Academy; which entails two weeks on the job training, four weeks (Monday &ndash; Friday) at the academy training location (Louisville, Kentucky). Overnight lodging and travel is required for the ACT and provided by the department.</li></ul>
This position has an approved Locality Premium of $5.228, based on the organizational structure and work county it is currently assigned to, in compliance with 101 KAR 2:034 Section 9(1).<br>
