</b></p><p>Positions within this job family are assigned responsibilities involving providing routine social casework in the classification and assignment of offenders committed to a correctional institution or advanced social casework pertaining to the re-entry of offenders into the community.

</b></p><ul><li>Uses interview techniques and assessment instruments to determine the offender&rsquo;s security risks and programmatic needs; prepares case history reports and recommends program assignments.
</li><li>Reviews work and conduct records of all assigned offenders to determine progress or necessity of changing assignments or security classification; serves as a member of the classification unit for an assigned caseload.
</li><li>Advises offenders on personal problems, employment resources, vocational skills, educational and training needs, family problems and institutional adjustment.
</li><li>Delivers programs to offenders which are designed to assist in a successful re-entry into the community following release from incarceration.

</p><p>This is the basic level where incumbents perform entry-level routine case management work, under close supervision, involving classification and assignment of offenders committed to a correctional institution.

</p><p>This is the career level where incumbents perform a full range of case management tasks involving the classification and assignment of offenders committed to a correctional institution. Incumbents at this level are responsible for overseeing difficult advanced classification and counseling cases.
</p><p></p><p>Level III:
</p><p>This is the specialist level where incumbents are responsible for providing programs such as substance abuse treatment, cognitive behavior and sex offender treatment; and offender re-entry case management functions to include; coordination of strategic social casework; classification; development of transitional/intervention plans; conducting and analyzing offender assessments; developing family and community collaborative support teams, and providing service referrals and follow-up.

<p><b>The annual salary listed for this position includes the additional $0.75 per hour maximum security stipend ($1,560 anually) for full-time positions domiciled in a maximum security institution.

</p>Responsibilities - What you&rsquo;ll do
<ul><li>Maintains security in buildings/towers/other posts of an adult correctional facility; intervenes during emergencies or altercations and gains physical control of offenders</li>
<li>Supervises movement of offenders inside/outside the correctional facility; conducts periodic counts of offenders; searches offenders and their living quarters for contraband; Escorts/transports offenders to predetermined locations</li>
<li>Supervises offenders: in housing units; during the performance of work activities; during recreational/ religious activities</li>
<li>Conducts inspections for health and safety hazards; prepares/submits reports on offender violations of divisional or correctional facility rules/unusual offender behaviors/observed mechanical deficiencies/ security breaches or failures</li>
<li>Discusses minor adjustment problems with offenders; refers serious problems to proper correctional facility staff; promotes rehabilitation by attempting to modify offender&rsquo;s social attitudes/discouraging undesirable behaviors/encouraging worthwhile activities</li>
<li>Supervises visits with offenders; searches visitors/offenders/buildings/grounds for contraband</li>
<li>Performs work in accordance with established rules/regulations/post orders/specific instructions; receives general administrative direction</li>
<li>Performs other related work as assigned</li>

<p><b>Minimum Qualifications:
</b></p><p>Must be 18 years of age or older.</p>
<p><b>SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:</b></p>
<div><ul><li>Ability to pass a background investigation administered by the Missouri Department of Corrections.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Ability to complete Defensive Tactics and Standard First Aid\CPR training during Basic Training administered by the Missouri Department of Corrections.</li></ul>
</div><p><b>By assignment, a position may require:</b></p>
<div><ul><li>Ability to complete and maintain firearms certification training administered by the Missouri Department of Corrections.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Possession of a valid vehicle operator's license.</li></ul>

<p>Contingent upon your position, you may also be eligible to receive:</p>
<ul><li>A $2.00 per hour shift differential if you are assigned to a shift that begins on or between 12:00pm (noon) and 5:00am and are employed at a 24/7 congregate care facility (i.e. institution, transition center, supervision center, or command center).</li>
<li>A $1.00 per hour restrictive housing stipend if you are assigned a regular post within a restrict housing/segregation unit at any facility.</li>
</ul><p>The Department of Corrections currently offers a guaranteed 1% pay increase for every two years of continuous service up to 20 years!
