The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) operates nine institutions statewide housing approximately 5,800 inmates. The department's focus includes inmate programming and education, physical and behavioral health care, re-entry services, and community programs, and is accredited by the American Correctional Association (ACA).

With a current vacancy at the Nebraska Correctional Center for Women (NCCW) in York, NE (a maximum, medium and minimum custody facility), NDCS is accepting applications for the position of Corrections Lieutenant. DUTIES:
<br>
Responsible for specific shift of a custody force. Conduct special investigations; resolve problems between incarcerated individuals. Supervise the performance of all assigned security staff, and indirect supervision of other institutional staff. Conduct roll call and handle administrative paperwork. Supervise custody activities such as searches, institutional tours, visitor &amp; inmate escort, and initial commander in emergency situations.<br>
<p></p><br>
<p><b>Requirements / Qualifications
</b></p><p><b>Minimum Qualifications: </b>Post-high school coursework/training in Criminal Justice or related Behavioral field and three years of progressively responsible corrections experience. Experience or coursework/training in supervision and leadership. Must be able to legally possess firearms and ammunition.
</p><p></p><p><b>Preferred Qualifications: </b>One year of staff supervisory experience. Experience using KRONOS, or other electronic timekeeping system, in a supervisory capacity. Experience working for the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services.
</p><p></p><p><b>Other: </b>Must have valid driver's license. Applicants accepting a job offer must pass the following pre-employment exams in this order: medical exam, and at a randomly announced time, pass a drug test. Once at the Staff Training Academy, must successfully complete the fully paid NE Corrections Training Program.<br>

Duties include but are not limited to the following:</p>

Plans, organizes and coordinates the activities of all Correctional Officers and Correctional Officer Sergeants assigned to a shift. Delegates post assignments, specific duty assignments, coordinates leave use and ensures accurate completion of attendance and leave reports. Works with employees to ensure proper security coverage. Conducts periodic individual counseling with staff to outline problem areas and to give additional duties or instructions. May take or recommend non-appealable disciplinary action or recommend appealable disciplinary action to higher level management.</p>

Supervises searches for contraband and makes daily inspections of buildings and grounds. Inspects physical plant for security concerns and to maintain proper sanitation standards. Transports inmates using approved restraints and observing relevant laws, policies and procedures. Conducts accurate head counts, maintains custody and control over inmates at appointments outside the secured perimeter and escorts inmates within the secured perimeter.</p>

Performs crisis intervention functions to include, but not limited to restraining violent or uncooperative inmates, defending persons against attack, and preventing escapes, using approved deadly or non-deadly force, restraints or other approved methods. Provides emergency assistance during emergencies, disasters and accidents to include, but not limited to, CPR, first aid, implementation of evacuation procedures, security of inmates and/or areas in accordance with the emergency situation.</p>

Delegates post assignments, specific duty assignments, coordinates leave use and ensures accurate completion of attendance and leave reports. Works with employees to ensure proper security coverage. Conducts periodic individual counseling with staff to outline problem areas and to give additional duties or instructions. May take or recommend non-appealable disciplinary action or recommend appealable disciplinary action to higher level management.</p>
<p>
Supervises searches for contraband and makes daily inspections of buildings and grounds. Inspects physical plant for security concerns and to maintain proper sanitation standards. Circulates throughout institution observing officers&rsquo; performance. Conducts performance evaluations. Schedules and/or coordinates training programs for subordinates. Conducts continuous training of subordinate staff in security procedures.</p>
<p>
Supervises and coordinates body cavity searches as authorized by the Warden, Assistant Warden or Chief Correctional Officer. Authorizes non-emergency applications of use of force per DC Rule 33-3.0065(3).</p>
<p>
Supervises inmates at the level of risk they present. Manages inmate housing areas, enforces rules and sanitation standards. Transports inmates using approved restraints and observing relevant laws, policies and procedures. Conducts accurate head counts, maintains custody and control over inmates at appointments outside the secured perimeter and escorts inmates within the secured perimeter.</p>
<p>
Performs crisis intervention functions to include, but not limited to restraining violent or uncooperative inmates, defending persons against attack, and preventing escapes, using approved deadly or non-deadly force, restraints or other approved methods. Provides emergency assistance during emergencies, disasters and accidents to include, but not limited to, CPR, first aid, implementation of evacuation procedures, security of inmates and/or areas in accordance with the emergency situation.</p>
<p>
Conducts inspections and visual and audio surveillance of persons, property, vehicles, building and outdoor areas. Physically checks doors, windows, gates, barred sections, fences and other areas to ensure proper security.</p>
<p>
Attends mandatory and other training.</p>
<p>
Performs other related duties as required.</p>
