This Correctional Officer Sergeant position is located at Charlotte Correctional Institution. The incumbent in this position is considered to have regulatory responsibilities and is subject to the provisions of Chapter 60L-36, Florida Administrative Code.
</p><p>Duties include but are not limited to the following:
</p><div>Supervises male or female inmates commensurate with the level of risk they present. Manages inmate housing areas, enforces rules and sanitation standards. Transports inmates using approved restraints and observing relevant laws, policies and procedures. Conducts accurate head counts, maintains custody and control over inmates at appointments outside the secured perimeter and escorts inmates within the secured perimeter. Inventories personal property of inmates and issues receipts.</div><br>

</div><div>Performs crisis intervention functions to include, but not limited to, subduing or restraining violent or uncooperative inmates, defending persons against attack, and preventing escapes, using approved deadly or non-deadly force, restraints or other approved methods. Required to wear body armor and use weapons.</div><br>

</div><div>Maintains facility security. This includes performing searches of inmates and other persons. This includes the visual inspection of body cavities and possible exposure to body fluids. Responsible for checking inmate mail and/or packages for contraband. Observes inmate behavior to identify inmates exhibiting mental or emotional disorders. Uses counseling techniques or referral action, as outlined in written policies or guidelines. Conducts inspections and visual and audio surveillance of persons, property, vehicles, building and outdoor areas. Physically checks doors, windows, gates, barred sections, fences and other areas to ensure proper security.</div><br>

</div><div>Provides emergency assistance during emergencies, disasters and accidents to include but not limited to, CPR, first aid, apprehension of escaping or escaped inmates, implementation of evacuation procedures, provides security of inmates and/or areas in accordance with the emergency situation.</div><br>

</div><div>Directs Correctional Officers in supervising inmates in housing units and those segregated for administrative or punitive measures. Directs Correctional Officers in checking inmate mail for possible contraband, and in supervising inmates working on work details both inside and outside the fenced perimeter. Directs Correctional Officers in maintaining master inmate location counts and directs the entire operation of the Control Room or the Main Gate. Ensures that all transportation permits are completed accurately and signed by the appropriate authority. Directs Officers in preparing reports such as special progress, minor work, disciplinary and/or incident reports.</div><br>

<div><p>As a Corrections Counselor 1, you will play a crucial role in supporting and rehabilitating inmates at SCI Dallas. Your work will include providing individual counseling and casework services, as well as assisting with employment opportunities and connecting inmates to community resources. You will also be responsible for maintaining accurate records and reports for your assigned caseload and participating in parole planning to facilitate reentry into society. Your work will have a significant impact on the lives of inmates and their chances for successful rehabilitation and reintegration.<br>

<b>Work Schedule and Additional Information:</b></p><ul><li>
Full-time employment, 40 hours per week</li><li>
Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.</li><li>
This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.</li><li><b>
Telework: </b>You will not have the option to telework in this position.</li><li><b>
Salary:</b><i> </i>Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $55,436.00 (before taxes).</li><li>

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:</b></div><ul><li>
Three years and six months as a corrections officer, and 18 college credits in any combination of sociology, counseling, psychology, social work, corrections, criminal justice, or a related field; <b>or</b></li><li>
A bachelor&rsquo;s degree including 18 college credits in any combination of sociology, counseling, psychology, social work, corrections, criminal justice, or a related field; <b>or</b></li><li>
An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes 18 college credits in any combination of sociology, counseling, psychology, social work, corrections, criminal justice, or a related field.</li><li>
Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.</li></ul><div></div><b><br>
Special Requirement:</b><ul><li>
You must obtain Commonwealth Law Enforcement Assistance Network (CLEAN) and Pennsylvania Justice Network (JNET) certification within two months of employment and maintain certification for the duration of employment in this job.</li></ul><br>

Other Requirements:</b><ul><li>
Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.</li><li>
