Under direction, the purpose of this position is to supervise the management of the Community Corrections Unit. Employees in this classification perform at an entry management level and are responsible for supervisory work involving the training, review, and evaluation of division staff to ensure compliance with all departmental policies and procedure. Additionally, this position assists the Unit Supervisor in planning, implementing, and organizing all aspects of Pretrial Services and Misdemeanor Probation while ensuring compliance with state statute and administrative order.</div><p></p>

Provides direct supervision over and manages day to day operational activities of staff or teams including solving problems, proactive planning within the team and between other service providers; prioritizes, assigns and reviews the work of staff involved in community corrections service delivery; reviews reports for accuracy, thoroughness and adherence to department goals and procedures; and provides consultation to staff regarding appropriate case management decisions and use of professional services.</li><li>
Recommends and implements new and revised policies to respond to departmental goals and service needs; works with management and other service providers to develop and implement programs and update procedures.</li><li>
Assists with hiring and supervises assigned staff to provide quality service to citizens and County staff; prepares performance evaluations; conducts caseload audits; works with employees to correct deficiencies; administers progressive discipline; conducts and/or facilitates staff training and development.</li><li>
Assists Community Corrections staff in performing casework functions or may handle casework functions directly, including offender needs/risk assessment, treatment referral and monitoring, and client counseling; prepares reports and makes recommendations to courts regarding offender treatment needs, compliance with supervision conditions, and sanctioning options.</li><li>
Monitors budget expenditures; assists in compiling statistical information for department use.</li><li>
Facilitates staff meetings regarding program issues and/or changes; facilitates offender educational groups as needed; resolves issues regarding program rules, security, and caseload procedures.</li><li>
Oversees contractual compliance with agencies involved in the programs.</li><li>
Acts as a liaison with internal department and external agencies relevant to unit operations.</li><li>
Ensures an adequate inventory of supplies, equipment, etc.</li><li>
Assists and/or recommends training specific to the services provided by assigned unit.</li><li>
Oversees payroll/leave processes for the section.</li><li>
Responsible for developing policies and procedures for area of responsibility.</li><li>
Initiates and directs special projects.</li><li>
Ensures all functions of the division assigned are in accordance with Federal and State rules, Administrative Orders and FCAC Standards.</li><li>
Assists in the development and application of applicable policies, procedures, programs, and practices.</li><li>
Serves as liaison to the judiciary, courts, and other allied criminal justice agencies.</li><li>
Attends Court Sessions to provide information to the Judiciary regarding program eligibility and testify as an expert witness as necessary.</li><li>
Completes risk/needs assessments on all defendants; connects defendant&rsquo;s with community resources and referrals, coordinates community service work; may facilitate cognitive behavioral classes.</li><li>
Assists with providing professional supervision to defendants, ensuring protection and security to the community; monitors the status of defendant compliance with court ordered terms and conditions.</li><li>
Manages and maintains department equipment and general office supplies; submits requests for repairs and replacements as needed.</li><li>
Attends and participates in meetings and trainings to keep up with trends in pretrial release and probation issues, legislative changes, and office and field safety.</li><li>

<div><p><b>Education:</b> Associate&rsquo;s Degree from an accredited college or university in Criminal Justice, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a closely related field.<br>

<b>Experience:</b> Four (4) years&rsquo; experience in Inmate Records, Bonds and Dockets, Inmate Programming, Inmate Classification, Probation, Pretrial Release, and/or Community Corrections, to include at least two (2) years&rsquo; experience in a supervisory capacity. An equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience may be considered.<br>

The Washington State Department of Corrections has a duty to ensure the security of offender records. As a custodian of these records, the<b> Correctional Records Supervisor (CRS)</b> within the Criminal Conviction Records (CCR) Unit ensures compliance with appropriate laws and agency policy.</div><div></div><div><br>
The Correctional Records Supervisor contributes to the agency&rsquo;s mission to improve public safety by entering, auditing, and interpreting the legal documents that hold sentenced individuals within the agency&rsquo;s facilities and/or under the jurisdiction of the Department of Corrections for supervision within the community. The CRS oversees the completion of the CCR and Supervision Screening Eligibility/Offender Release Plan (ORP) processes and their accuracy is critical due to the fiscal impact and potential liability to the agency.</div><div></div><div><br>

As a <b>Correctional Records Supervisor</b>, some of your duties will include:</div><ul><li>
Managing and providing supervisory direction relating to operational effectiveness of a correctional records office which could look like:<ul><li>
Directing and supervising lower-level correctional records office staff as well as the work of the records office</li><li>
Planning, assigning, and reviewing the work of the records staff</li><li>
Assessing training needs of staff and arrange for or provide instruction</li><li>
Responding to inquiries regarding records issues from facility staff and outside entities</li><li>
Evaluating employee performance and prepare performance expectations</li><li>
Resolving staff issues, recognize employees, and counsel employees in work-related activities and career development</li></ul></li><li>
Reviewing and verifying sentenced individual&rsquo;s sentence structure and criminal history information while completing CCR and Supervision Screening and ORP determination</li><li>
Maintaining electronic and physical files</li><li>
Providing effective communication and thorough and timely request processing</li><li>
Other duties as assigned, including yearly in-service training as assigned and conduct bi-weekly unit meetings</li></ul></div><p></p>

High School diploma or equivalent</li><li>
Five (5) years of experience maintaining or processing sentenced individual records in an adult correctional agency. * Sentenced individual records are defined as records containing certified copies of the original documents relating to the sentenced individual&rsquo;s crime and sentence. Sentenced individual records are not property files, grievance files, administrative files, treatment files, slough files, parole files, counselor files, or custody files. College-level course work in criminal justice, or a related field will substitute, year for year, for up to two (2) years of experience<ul><li>

In-Depth knowledge of OMNI and OnBase</li><li>
Two (2) years of experience supervising staff and overseeing daily office operations</li><li>

Telework Details</b></div><div>
This position may be allocated for telework. Work may be performed from your home or another offsite location within the state of Washington using a reliable internet or cellular hotspot service at that time. Employees will be required to commute to a Department of Corrections facility or field office as business requires, to potentially include components of the onboarding process.
