</p><p>The Bronx Court Advocate will be responsible for working with court stakeholders to assess and screen and advocate for individuals to be placed in Fortune&rsquo;s Alternative to Incarceration (ATI) programs, and report to the court regarding clients&rsquo; participation in programming.
</p><p>The Bronx Court Advocate will split their time between court advocacy and managing a caseload of current clients and potential referrals.

While many cases are brought to the Court Advocate by the defense or district attorney, often, the Court Advocate needs to take the lead by going after appropriate cases and then approaching the attorneys and potential participants. This takes confidence, drive, and ambition. Additionally, as a Court Advocate, data entry in internal databases must be up to date to ensure court report status and progress and tracking and centrally recording information in internal database related to client court matters, is imperative.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS District Attorney Services Specialist IThis is the entry-level class for District Attorney Services Specialist series. Incumbent will process reports and documents in strict adherence to State law and Department procedures. Incumbent is expected to keep current on changes in report and document processing requirements. Incumbent will operate a Departmental case management system and related systems in strict accordance with the law. This class series requires the ability to provide appropriate information and answer basic questions from the public related to the criminal justice system, both in-person and over the telephone. District Attorney Services Specialist IIThis is the journey level position within the series. In addition to the above, incumbents will be assigned to more increasingly difficult tasks within the Department, including being responsive to the needs of victims of crimes, demonstrating sensitivity to and establishing rapport with victims of crime, and exhibiting emotional stability under conditions of high stress. Incumbents will be able to assist victims in recovering their personal property held in evidence, facilitate victim compensation applications, and provide court accompaniment. Incumbent is eligible for assignment to the Victim Services division, wherein Incumbent must successfully complete required trainings and must exhibit a high level of understanding of the specific duties and prohibited activities under prevailing program restrictions, including VOCA regulations, State and Federal grantor regulations, and the Penal Code. District Attorney Services Specialist IIIThis is the advanced level position within the series. In addition to the above, responsibilities require the frequent use of initiative and independent judgment in scheduling and coordination of office activities and in dealing with sensitive assignments. Incumbents are responsible for the more complex assignments, including vertical assignments to a trial team in complex and high-profile cases, and work with greater independence from close review. Incumbents can work effectively with victims, witnesses, and prosecutors with limited supervision in more serious cases and in rapidly changing situations and circumstances. Incumbents may arrange for transportation, escort, and support for witnesses and victims during court appearances in more serious cases. District Attorney Services Specialist IVThis is the senior level position within the series. In addition to the above, incumbents will work with minimal review, may be assigned to carry out special assignments in support of the assigned division, and may be part of complex multi-disciplinary teams. Incumbents may be tasked with collecting data and preparing reports for their assigned division of the Department and may act in a lead capacity by providing training and guidance to subordinates and developing and maintaining special programs. Incumbent is able to develop or advance a comprehensive crisis response and mass victimization assistance plan structured to identify and respond to victim needs such as: safety, food, shelter, and immediate services in the aftermath of a crime-related mass victimization or terrorism incident.</li>

<p><strong>Job Role: Expert Witness</strong></p><p><strong>Appointment type:</strong> Freelance/consultancy basis or fixed-term contracted expert.</p><p><strong>Remuneration:</strong> Fee rates per hour/day for report preparation, review, meeting attendance and court appearance; out-of-hours and travel time reimbursed; expenses for travel and accommodation claimable per policy. Fee for the report will be based on the number of pages in the records that need to be reviewed.</p><p>An experienced, credible clinician with experience in their individual specialty providing independent, objective, evidence-based medico-legal opinion in matters relating to tissue viability, wound care and lymphoedema. Individuals assigned to this position are responsible for providing administrative support to the Court by performing clerical duties, providing excellent customer service on a daily basis, and processing legal documents. Duties include receipting of monies, public contact work on the telephone or over the counter, processing and maintaining court records, files and other legal documents, and staffing the courtroom. The position requires the application of considerable knowledge of court and general office practices and procedures.</p></div><p></p>

Timely and regular attendance.</li><li>
Provide accurate information and assistance to all levels of court customers, including attorneys, prosecutors, outside law enforcement agencies, defendants, victims, state agencies, etc.</li><li>
Receive, process, and schedule motions. Process appeals, legal documents, FTA on citations, various reports, and requests for public information.</li><li>
Accurately research and evaluate cases to determine correct course of action in accordance with laws, rules, court policies and procedures.</li><li>
Provide customer service over the telephone, at the counter, or through correspondence. Responsibilities include maintaining confidentiality, tact and providing accurate information to the public, defendants, attorneys and other agencies about Municipal Court policies and procedures and schedules.</li><li>
Respond to telephone and counter inquiries, sort and route documents, and initiate correspondence responding to court-related inquiry or requested information.</li><li>
Maintain courtroom recording equipment, certification thereof and transcripts of all proceedings for appeal to superior court.</li><li>
Staff courtroom during sessions, record all proceedings; maintain recording logs, mark exhibits, and process orders of the court. Ensure accurate and timely case flow maintenance.</li><li>
Maintain accurate and complete records making required docket entries, prepares and processes orders for commitment and release, warrants, subpoenas, summonses, and other legal documents as ordered by the court.</li><li>
Receive payment of court fines, bail penalty assessments and fees; record and receipt payments according to established court procedures.</li><li>
Order, print, and mail time payment statements.</li><li>
Reconcile and balance cash box, including credit card payments.</li><li>
Prepare court calendars for criminal and traffic infraction cases; prepare case files for court sessions, ensuring appropriate documentation is in the file.</li><li>
Assist in the scheduling and coordination of jury trials, summoning jurors and notifying litigants.</li><li>
