A Court Specialist performs a variety of responsible, highly skilled clerical and paraprofessional tasks including administrative, judicial support, and public contact duties in one of the operational divisions within the Municipal Court. The Court Specialist position is responsible for performing related duties as required. Customer Service Unit Assignment: Provide customer service to court visitors in person and on the phone. Manage and reconcile a cash drawer daily. Conducts civil traffic arraignments for uncontested civil traffic and parking violations at the customer service counter according to Administrative Order 2014-102. Accessing and interpreting a credit report. Reconciles the daily financial report by verifying amounts to be refunded or transferred. Reviews financial and other computer transactions and electronic documentation on a case to ensure that computer records correspond, and when errors are identified, routes the issue accordingly. Reviews reports for driver’s license suspensions, traffic school completions, fines paid in full, and restitution disbursement to victims. Processes and provides certified copy requests within legally required timelines. Successful applicants will be required to train and cover in all areas of Customer Service which include, but are not limited to Records, Collections, Civil Traffic, Protective Orders, and Finance on a rotating basis throughout the year. Court Operations Unit Assignment: Provide administrative support daily to judicial officers in the courtroom. Prepares the jury assembly room for jurors; coordinates the Jury Panel for Jury Duty; prepares Jury Preliminary and Final instructions and verdict slips; and acts as Bailiff for court actions as required. Accesses information from a computerized records system to obtain criminal information such as criminal charges, hearing dates, warrants, motor vehicle information, and criminal histories. Processes various petitions and appeals documentation within strict time restraints. Upon court order, assign public defenders and process orders. Keep track statistically of public defender appointments. Operates a motor vehicle when driving to and from the Mesa Police Department Jail. An employee assigned to Court Operations will be required to work Fridays, Holidays, and/or weekends on a rotating schedule throughout the year. Successful applicants will be required to train and cover in all criminal courtrooms on a rotating basis throughout the year.A Court Specialist must thoroughly understand the full scope of the procedures and processes of the court to interact effectively with the public, City Prosecutor's Office, law enforcement, attorneys, governmental agencies, staff within the Mesa Municipal Court and other City employees. This position provides clerical support to judicial and administrative personnel. The interpersonal communications in this classification requires considerable judgement, tact, patience, and professionalism when providing information and clarification concerning court rules, Arizona revised statutes, City ordinances, and general court and criminal justice processes. Position Summary:</b></div></div><div><div>
Under the Supervised Release Program (SRP), the Court Advocate (CA) will be responsible for identifying and screening potential program participants at arraignments in the Bronx Criminal Courthouse. The CA will liaise with defense attorneys, prosecutors, and other court actors to ensure those eligible for SRP are mandated to the program rather than detained. The CA will present on the court record to judges, primarily at arraignments, and occasionally when reporting to the court regarding clients&rsquo; participation in programming. The day shift CA will be responsible for working a 9am &ndash; 5pm schedule to be present for daytime court in the Bronx. Arraignment court operates 365 days a year including holidays.</div></div><div><div><b><br>

The Advocate will work closely with law enforcement, prosecutors, defense attorneys, and court personnel to elevate survivor voices and promote justice with compassion.</p><p>KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:</p><ul><li>Provide court accompaniment and emotional support to survivors during legal proceedings</li><li>Explain legal processes in accessible, trauma-informed language</li><li>Advocate for survivor needs and preferences in coordination with attorneys and court staff</li><li>Assist with filing orders of protection, victim impact statements, and other legal documents</li><li>Maintain accurate, confidential case documentation and service records</li><li>Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams as needed, including SAFE nurses, social workers, and law enforcement</li><li>Participate in case reviews, team meetings, and community outreach</li><li>Uphold survivor autonomy, safety, and confidentiality at all times</li><li>Identify and address barriers to access, including language, transportation, and disability accommodations</li><li>Support survivors in navigating post-court resources</li></ul><p>All advocates provide 24-hour crisis intervention, in-person or virtual counseling, accompaniment to medical and other appointments or emergencies and or court accompaniment, criminal justice and family court advocacy, assistance obtaining reimbursement for expenses related to the crime, medical and legal referrals and comprehensive referrals for needed services to rape and sexual assault victims, victims of domestic violence, and human trafficking</p><p>Answer and provide support on the agency chat, the 24-Hour Rape Crisis, and Domestic Violence hotlines during non-office hours for emergency crisis intervention and potential in-person response. You will be required to complete a minimum of a 40-hour RCC training prior to answering the hotline or providing in-person rape crisis response and Domestic Violence Liaison training.</p><p>You will be on 24-hour call a maximum of two times per week and will be expected to answer the CVC Hotline or provide sexual assault response services to victims in emergency departments.</p><p>Educate all victims and their non-offending family members of their rights, eligibility for services and/or crime victim compensation, and on the criminal justice or family court process. Attend specialized trainings to become sensitive to the needs of rape, domestic violence, sexual assault, hate crime victims, all victims of violent crime and elderly, minor and disabled victims of all crime.</p><p>Maintain detailed and organized advocacy case files (electronic and hard copy) in accordance with advocacy policy and procedures manual and submit to random audits to ensure quality control. Complete daily entries into the agency CMS.</p><p>Provide the supervisor with updated weekly and quarterly case status and case referral reports for entire caseload and initial each section. Submit to regular audits.</p><p>Coordinate with therapy program staff to maintain continuity of therapeutic services.</p><p>Participate in training as needed and record your participation in the training database. Provide up-to-date training to all non-advocacy staff that have telephone contact with any caller.</p><p>You will be required to learn and provide a PowerPoint presentation(s) training on a selected topic(s) as assigned to agency staff and/or for outreach.</p><p>Collaborate with the OVS Vocational Rehabilitation Unit</p><p>Complete crime victim telephone and comprehensive intakes on the phone, virtually, or in&ndash;person and make appropriate referrals for services, treatment, compensation, medical, legal, law enforcement, and social services. Provide referrals in a timely manner and follow up with victims for additional support.</p><p>Ensure all victims and non-offending family members are:</p><ul><li>counseled, and provided crisis intervention, emotional support, criminal justice advocacy, referrals and guidance</li><li>educated about their right as crime victims</li><li>educated about the criminal justice and/or family court process</li><li>educated regarding available services (including medical, food, clothing, etc.) and provided multi-agency referrals (minimum 3) and provide assistance as needed.</li><li>provided law enforcement referrals as needed</li><li>provided courtroom and medical accompaniment as needed</li><li>provided NYS and other state Victim Compensation program claim assistance and assistance in application for eligible reimbursements and assistance with VINE registration</li><li>provided assistance in the preparation of Victim Impact Statements (using established format) and act as an intermediary between family and criminal justice and social service agencies (DA, PA, Probation, DSS, CSE in cases of sexual assault, provide information regarding sex offender registration.</li><li>educated about reimbursement from NYS Office of Victims Services and provide assistance in completing application.</li></ul><p>Additional Skills &amp; Responsibilities:</p><ul><li>You will be on call a maximum of 2 days per week. If you are called out you will complete a form for approval which will deduct the hours you spent accompanying a victim from your work week.</li><li>Ensure that all literature is in place in targeted areas such as police precincts, DA&rsquo;s office, schools, hospitals, SANE Centers, CAC etc. as assigned in outreach plan.</li><li>Present Agency Outreach presentations as required</li><li>Prepare and distribute Advocacy outreach letters and materials in accordance with outreach plan</li><li>Train new staff and interns as directed</li><li>Prepare and distribute weekly statistical and narrative progress reports highlighting referrals.</li><li>Monitor and participate in ongoing case review and supervision</li><li>Support leadership on attendance of agency or program meetings, research, and other projects as directed.</li><li>Participate on a volunteer basis in agency fundraising and other events as required.</li><li>Participate in the new recruit screening process for staff and interns.</li><li>Complete advocacy outreach initiatives as assigned.</li><li>Maintain a tidy and organized work area and assist in maintaining a tidy office along with all other staff</li><li>If you are unable to come to work you are required to follow agency protocol to take time off and are required to rearrange any appointments you have schedule that day.</li><li>Please be advised that you may be assigned additional responsibilities by agency management.</li></ul><p>MINIMUM EDUCATION &amp; ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:</p><p>Bachelors Degree</p><p>Certified Rape Crisis Counselor.
