OVERVIEW<br>
Work involves investigating cases that are of a high profile or high-risk and may require a joint investigation with local law enforcement due to alleged criminal acts. Assists the Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) Investigation Supervisors by providing consultation and assistance to the investigation of complex cases. Provide forensic investigation techniques and investigation skills. Accompanies DFPS staff on investigations and provides information on criminal statutes, law enforcement procedures, and legal issues when circumstances warrant. Provides feedback to DFPS staff on effective investigation techniques from a law enforcement perspective, may carry a small caseload within the unit, provides training to and serves as a consultant to DFPS staff. Interacts routinely with DFPS staff, supervisors, clients, law enforcement professionals, medical professionals, legal professionals and others involved in the investigative process. Attends civil and criminal court proceedings as required.</p><p>

Essential Job Functions (EJFs):</b></div><ul><li>
Conducts specialized investigations of child abuse and neglect, as required by management.</li><li>
Serves as a resource and trainer to DFPS Staff on forensic interview skills and techniques.</li><li>
Identifies and provides for staff development and training needs in the area of forensic child abuse and neglect investigation to achieve and enhance quality performance of unit staff.</li><li>
Provides expert consultation to DFPS staff and the community on complex issues associated with forensic child abuse and neglect investigations.</li><li>
Conducts in-depth interviews to accurately obtain information to determine immediate or long-term risk of abuse or neglect; models advanced interviewing techniques for other workers.</li><li>
Assesses family dynamics and functioning to determine degree and type of agency intervention needed.</li><li>
Prepares and provides sufficient case documentation (including forms and narratives) to provide a complete and accurate record on cases, including legal documentation or testifying in court for all necessary court cases.</li><li>
Reviews cases identified by Child Safety Specialists for specific risk factors or assistance with forensic investigation techniques, in order to ensure staff develop and implement appropriate casework actions and case plans.</li><li>
Attends training and participates in professional development as required by agency and/or supervisor.</li><li>

Valid Texas Driver's License</p><p>
TCOLE Intermediate License, out of state Peace Officer license, Federal Law Enforcement Officer Certification or Military experience comparable to Texas Peace Officer.</p><p>
Preferred:</p><p>
A current, Licensed Texas Peace Officer or have been a licensed Peace Officer in the State of Texas in the past two years.</p><p>
TCOLE Advance or Master Peace Officer License or equivalent from an out of state law enforcement agency or the United States Military.

Experience acquired through military police or military criminal investigative service (e.g., Army MOS 31B/31D, Marine Corps 5811/5821, Navy MA, Air Force 3P0X1/7S0X1, or equivalent) will be considered qualifying experience for all the above criteria, where applicable.</li></ul></li><li><b>
Preferred:</b> 60 hours college credit; 2 years as a Detective/Investigator with multidisciplinary teams on child abuse/neglect or similar. Experience using forensic investigation skills (interviewing suspects, collecting evidence, obtaining statements, report writing).</li></ul><p>
This position may be filled at a CPI Senior Investigator Trainee or a CPI Senior Investigator III. Factors such as education and experience may be considered when determining the classification to be used for hire.</p><p><b>
Additional Information:</b></p><div>
Applicants selected for this position are also eligible to receive a $416.66 monthly increase in addition to the base salary. Applicants hired into an investigative position will receive this increase the first of the month following 120 days of tenure. Once employed, the incumbent must remain in an investigative position to continue to receive the additional pay. If you leave Family Investigations or AR and return within the last 12-months, the INV stipend is given immediately. All other situations must wait the 120 days to receive the INV stipend.</div><div></div><div><b><br>

Reliable transportation and a strong willingness to travel are essential, as you can expect to be on the road about 60% of the time. Documents all relevant and appropriate information gathered during the investigation and completes all required forms accurately and in a timely manner.</li><li>
Gathers family and kinship information to support the child in a placement, should the child be placed in DFPS custody.

Brief Job Description:
</b></p><p>Child Protective Investigations (CPI) Investigators investigate claims of child abuse and neglect. They have the difficult task of figuring out what happened and predicting what will happen in the future. CPI receives and investigates reports of abuse and neglect 24 hours per day, every day of the year.</p><p></p><p><br>
A CPI investigation includes interviewing and gathering information to see if abuse or neglect happened and if intervention is necessary. The investigator considers both risk and safety issues and may recommend services for the child and family to reduce the risk of further abuse or neglect.</p><p></p><p><br>

Responds quickly in crisis situations involving children who may be in an abusive or neglectful situation. Sometimes these situations can be dangerous.

Documents all relevant and appropriate information gathered during the investigation and completes all required forms accurately and in a timely manner.</li><li>
Gathers family and kinship information to support the child in a placement, should the child be placed in DFPS custody.

This position may be filled at any level from a Child Protective Investigations Specialist I to a Child Protective Investigations Specialist IV. Factors such as education and experience may be considered when establishing the starting salary.</p><p></p><p><br>
Applicants selected for this position are also eligible to receive a $416.66 monthly increase in addition to the base salary. Applicants hired into an investigative position will receive this increase the first of the month following 120 days of tenure. Once employed, the incumbent must remain in an investigative position to continue to receive the additional pay. If you leave Family Investigations or AR and return within the last 12-months, the INV stipend is given immediately. All other situations must wait the 120 days to receive the INV stipend.</p><p></p><p><br>
This position will be in a mobile unit which means the majority of the work will be conducted using mobile technology, such as a tablet, while away from the office. Being mobile requires working independently yet still being responsive to supervision and your assigned unit.</p><p></p><p><br>

Applicants selected for this position are also eligible to receive a $416.66 monthly increase in addition to the base salary. Applicants hired into an investigative position will receive this increase the first of the month following 120 days of tenure. Once employed, the incumbent must remain in an investigative position to continue to receive the additional pay. If you leave Family Investigations or AR and return within the last 12-months, the INV stipend is given immediately. All other situations must wait the 120 days to receive the INV stipend.</div><div></div><div><br>
This position will be in a mobile unit which means the majority of the work will be conducted using mobile technology, such as a tablet, while away from the office. Being mobile requires working independently yet still being responsive to supervision and your assigned unit.</div><div></div><div><br>

<div><p>The Theodorescu Lab within the University of Arizona Cancer Center (UACC) is looking to hire a postdoctoral researcher with a strong background in cancer cell and immunobiology and the tumor microenvironment (TME). In addition to work in cancer cell and immunobiology, projects will also be inducing and characterizing induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC) with emphasis on mechanisms of transformation orchestrated by genomic alterations found in cancer. The trainee will use techniques of biochemistry, molecular biology, and Crispr/Cas9 technologies, functional genomic approaches (loss of function/synthetic lethal), next generation sequencing including single cell RNA sequencing, together with the use of innovative mouse models we have developed. Examples of the type of work that will be undertaken by the trainee can be seen by our papers by Chen (Nature. 2025 Jun;642(8069):1041-1050), Abdel-Hafiz (Nature. 2023 Jul;619(7970):624-631), Gouin (Nature Commun. 2021; 12;12(1)), Agarwal (Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A. 2021 Sep 21;118(38):e2102423118) and Tu (Science Adv. 2019; 20;5(2)). Our final goal is to identify novel biomarkers and interventions for cancer that will improve patient outcomes.</p>

This individual would join a vibrant cancer research group. The successful candidate will be a driven, creative, team-oriented individual with a passion for helping discover fundamental cancer biology mechanisms with potential clinical impact, and who can eventually be moved towards clinical settings. We employ a range of in vitro and in vivo approaches and seek individuals with a strong background in cell and molecular biology.
