The District Attorney's Office Victim Services Division assists victims of crimes and/or their families in dealing with the financial and emotional aftermath of crime. Under general supervision, the incumbent will:<br>

<ul><li>Provide all mandatory and optional services per CA PC 13835.5, including assessing and coordinating the needs of crime victim/witnesses.</li><li>Inform, update, and support victims/witnesses throughout the criminal justice process.</li><li>Assist victims/witnesses with requesting criminal restitution; provide public presentations to a variety of audiences on victim related topics. </li><li>Perform related work as required. </li></ul><br>

<b>Victim Advocate I</b> ($35.74-$44.64/hr.) is the first level classification in the series. Initially under close supervision, incumbents learn the duties associated with the position and the client population served. Incumbents receive on-the-job, State-mandated, and other victim advocacy trainings. As experience is gained, there is greater independence of action within established guidelines. This class is flexibly staffed with II-level and incumbents may advance to the higher level after meeting the qualifications of the higher-level class.<br>
 <br>
<b>Victim Advocate II</b> ($42.16-$52.72/hr.) is advanced journey-level classification and incumbents perform advanced victim/witness advocacy work. Employees in this class have completed the State-mandated course requirements for entry-level and have performed victim advocacy work for a total of three years.<br>
 <br>
In addition to possessing a bachelor's degree with a major in criminal justice, social welfare, behavioral science, or a related field, the ideal candidate for this position will have the following essential experience, demonstrated knowledge, skills, and/or abilities:<br>

<ul><li>Criminal law, sentencing structure and restitution.</li><li>Victim's rights, crisis intervention techniques and trauma informed care principles.</li><li>Mandated reporting laws and confidentiality laws.</li><li>Basic principles and practices of case management.</li><li>Write clear, concise, and comprehensive case notes and reports.</li><li>Maintain accurate statistical data records.</li><li>Speak, read, and write fluently in Spanish. <ul><li>District Attorney Victim Advocate I - A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in social welfare, behavioral science, or a related field and two years of experience in providing community services of an emergency, remedial, and/or educational nature to victimized and/or disadvantaged individuals.</li><li>District Attorney Victim Advocate II - Three years of experience as a victim/witness advocate in the District Attorney's Office is required.<br>

<b>License:</b> This position requires possession of a class C California driver license or equivalent.<br>

The examination process will consist of an application screening (weight: Pass/Fail) based on the candidates' application and responses to the supplemental questions. Candidates who pass the application screening will be invited to a panel interview (weight: 100%). Depending on the number of applicants, an application appraisal of education and experience may be used in place of other examinations or further evaluation of work experience may be conducted to group applicants by level of qualification . <br>

<p><b>Madison County Prosecutor&rsquo;s Office</b></p><p><b>Title: Victim Witness Advocate</b></p><p><b>Office Assignment: Victim Witness Division</b></p><p><b>EMPLOYMENT:</b></p><p>Full-time</p><p><b>REPORTS TO:</b></p><p>Prosecuting Attorney</p><p>Chief Assistant Prosecutor</p><p>Office Administrator</p><p>Victim Witness Director</p><p><b>CIVIL SERVICE STATUS:</b></p><p>Unclassified</p><p><b>FLSA STATUS:</b></p><p>Non-Exempt</p><p><b>BENEFITS:</b></p><p>Eligible</p><p><b>SALARY:</b></p><p>$40,000 annually, or higher commensurate with experience/education</p><p><b>POSTED:</b></p><p>5/9/22</p><p><b>DEADLINE</b></p><p>Until filled</p><p><b>Position Overview:</b></p><p>Victim Witness Advocates take practical, emotional, and legal avenues to support the victims and witnesses of crime within Madison County, Ohio.</p><p><b>Qualifications:</b></p><ul><li>Must have a high school diploma or equivalent</li><li>A Bachelor&rsquo;s Degree or equivalent in the following fields is preferred: Criminal Justice, Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Counseling, Behavioral Science, or a closely related field</li><li>Must maintain twenty-four (24) hours of bi-yearly training with the Ohio Victim Witness Association (OVWA)</li><li>Prior Experience working with victims of crime is preferred</li></ul><p><b>Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to):</b></p><p>&middot; Perform any task assigned or requested by a supervisor</p><ul><li>Provide services for victims and law enforcement to give options for crime victims immediately following the crime and to offer emotional support and crisis intervention</li><li>Provide information to victims regarding the court process, legal terminology, and victim&rsquo;s rights</li><li>Safety planning</li><li>Provide victims with continued updates on criminal cases (i.e., arraignments, bond hearings, pretrial hearings, sentencing hearings, prison placement, prison releases, etc.)</li><li>Provide assistance with preparation of Victim Impact Statements</li><li>Aid in paperwork and filing of Temporary protection Orders, Civil Protections Orders and Civil Stalking Orders</li><li>Assist victims in obtaining legal counsel for civil matters (CPO, CSPO, Custody, Divorce)</li><li>Act as a liaison between victims and prosecutors</li><li>Accompaniment during interviews and court appearances (or attend court on victim&rsquo;s behalf)</li><li>Aid in interactions with law enforcement</li><li>Provide courtroom orientation and pretrial preparation to victims needing to testify</li><li>Provide assistance with information, application and document collection for Crime Victim Compensation and Restitution</li><li>Notification through VINE and ODRC for jail and prison release of offenders</li><li>Provide referrals to and coordinate services with agencies that provide food, shelter, support groups, medical care, and crisis / emergency intervention</li><li>Provide supervisor(s) with all up to date statistics on services provided to victims for Ohio State Law Enforcement records as well as grant funding</li></ul><p><b>To Apply: </b></p><p>No phone calls.
