Essential Duties and Responsibilities</b></p><ul><li>
Provides direct services to victims of crime, including emergency needs, information and referral, counseling, accompaniment, home and hospital visits, and assistance in filing for CVB compensation.</li><li>
Prepares safety plan with each client.</li><li>
Provides individual and group counseling on the dynamics of domestic violence and victimization</li><li>
Offers immediate support to victims during and after a traumatic event.</li><li>
Assists victims in navigating the criminal justice system, including attending court hearings and</li><li>
providing updates on case status</li><li>
Determines the immediate needs of the crime victim and family &ndash; develop appropriate plan, involve appropriate agencies and facilitate the implementation of the plan.</li><li>
Determines the legal course to which the crime victim will be subject and provide or obtain appropriate assistance to the victim.</li><li>
Coordinates with First Step Team to ensure all referrals are assigned to case manager.</li><li>
Shares 24-hour on call responsibility with other First Step employees.</li><li>
Works with law enforcement, prosecutors, and other organizations to ensure comprehensive support for victims</li><li>
Develops and presents prevention and awareness efforts regarding violence and community response.</li><li>
Remains up to date on local, state and federal policies and/or legislation regarding victims of crime</li><li>
with a focus on intimate partner violence</li><li>
Maintains statistical database and case management files. Prepare monthly reports as required by funders.</li><li>
Participates in appropriate Catholic Charities staff meetings and in-service staff development opportunities. Represents Catholic Charities to the Community.</li><li>

<p>The Suffolk County District Attorney&rsquo;s Office (SCDAO) is one of the largest prosecutors' offices in the country and has recently launched a number of cutting-edge initiatives and reforms that have put it on the national stage for innovation. <p>DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS<br>
Under direct supervision, an employee in this class performs paraprofessional duties involving both initial and continuing direct, personal contact with victims and/or witnesses for the Victim Witness Assistance Program; and assists the professional staff in case file set-up and maintenance. The incumbent establishes a working relationship with the victims and witnesses, providing them with necessary information on court procedures and accompanying them throughout the entire court process. Direct supervision is received from an administrative supervisor. Does related work as required.<br>

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES</p>
<p>Contacts victims, witnesses and employers by telephone and/or letter concerning pre-trial, hearing and trial times, cancellations, grand jury summonses, subpoenas and disposition of cases;</p>
<p>Escorts victims and witnesses to and from trial; attends case from pre- trial hearing through verdict and sentencing;</p>
<p>Answers calls and inquiries concerning case information; explains all hearing and trial procedures;</p>
<p>Writes and sends follow-up letters of notification when necessary;</p>
<p>Recovers evidence from trial that should be returned to the victim/witness;</p>
<p>Performs general clerical activities such as filing and telephone coverage;</p>
<p>Arranges for interpreters, transportation, baby-sitters, travel plans and lodging accommodations for victims and witnesses.<br>

<br>About the PositionThe Victim Services Program has provided services to victims of crime since 1985. The program utilizes volunteers assigned to the court advocacy unit, the protective order unit and the family violence unit. The goal of the program is to provide comprehensive services to crime victims involved in the criminal justice system, who have a case that is being prosecuted by the District Attorney's Office.The Victim Advocate Provides immediate crisis intervention to victims; provides victims with information about the conditions of the offender's supervision; provides support during the investigation and prosecution process; explains procedures and requirements; consults with victim to determine the full extent of the crime and assesses victim's needs; refers victims and their children to appropriate community services for assistance made necessary by the crime; and performs other related duties as assigned.About the DivisionChris Parosa is Lane County's elected district attorney. His office is responsible for the prosecution of all crimes in Lane County Circuit Court.Divisions in the District Attorney's Office include: Criminal, Family Law (Child Support Enforcement); Juvenile; Death Investigations; and Victim Services.Our Mission: Strive to improve public safety and quality of life by prosecuting the guilty, protecting the innocent, securing the appropriate support for children and families, and determining the cause and manner of death in all cases of traumatic or unattended death. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
<br><b>Training:</b> Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.
