Job Summary and Qualifications</b></h5><p></p><p>
The ED Critical Care Technician is a certified and/or licensed EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) or EMT-P (Paramedic) and is part of the Emergency Department patient care team who collaboratively works in a complementary and assistive role with nursing. The ED Critical Care Technician performs a variety of RN delegated tasks under the supervision of the registered nurse. You will assist the nursing staff in providing patient care in accordance with training, competence and skill. You will be knowledgeable and follow all Hospital policies and procedures. You will consistently assist the patient care team with maintaining a clean, well-organized, adequately stocked and safe patient environment.

</p><p></p><ul><li>As a Patient Care Technician EMT you consistently assist with maintaining a safe patient environment to include following all patient safety initiatives, hand hygiene and use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as appropriate following transmission base precaution procedures.
</li><li>You will demonstrate proficiency in setting up procedures as delegated.</li><li>
You will actively participate in Unit-based/hospital-based committees and process improvement, i.e. Safety Champion, assist Director with bi-annual completion of Environmental Tour requirements, and actively participate in disaster response team. You will function as Super Trainer for Point of Care Testing for ED techs and as a preceptor for new techs.</li><li>
You will participate as a qualified observer for initial and ongoing ED tech competencies.</li><li>
As delegated by the RN, you will operate patient monitoring equipment and record in patient medical records, print rhythm strips, perform 12 lead EKGs, biomarkers and glucometer readings.</li><li>
You will communicate timely and accurate information for delegated patient care activities performed, to include observed patient responses to performed activities, to the assigned RN in a written or verbal format following hand-off communication guidelines.</li><li>
You will perform phlebotomy; collect laboratory specimens as ordered and insert saline lock.</li><li>
You will assist in patient care, obtain and document vital signs, provide patient hygiene, maintain clear and respectful communication with patients, families and the healthcare team. You will document all interventions.</li><li>
You will transport patients within the facility utilizing appropriate transport and monitoring equipment.</li></ul><p></p><p><b>

Job Description Summary</div>
The Patient Care Technician provides basic daily care to patients and support of significant others. The Patient Care Technician:</div><ul><li><div>
Performs various activities in the treatment and care of patients, including routine hygiene care., ingestion of food and fluids, elimination of body wastes, mobilization, and dressing/undressing.</div></li><li><div>
Performs and records routine technical tasks as authorized, such as collecting routine specimens, taking vital signs, collecting and recording intake and output and blood glucose, giving suppositories, performing intermittent catheterization, measuring bladder volume, hanging gastric feedings, and escorting patients.</div></li><li><div>
Collects and reports pertinent physiological, psychological, and functional data based on patient plan of care or patient need.</div></li><li><div>
Orients the patient and family to the environment, therapeutic activities, and potential safety hazards and prevention strategies as identified by the registered nurse.</div></li><li><div>
Incorporates factors related to safety into delivery of patient care as directed by the registered nurse.</div></li><li><div>
Implements interventions consistent with the plan of care as directed by a registered nurse.</div></li><li><div>

The Critical Care Tech II, under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN), assists with patients&rsquo; activities of daily living and supports the overall plan of care. <p>Pavilion-6, an Intermediate surgical and medical surgical unit with 30 single rooms, is deeply committed to providing exceptional patient care. Our surgical services include surgical oncology, urology, bariatrics, and thoracic and colorectal surgery. Our leadership structure, comprised of a clinical director, an assistant clinical director, clinical nurse managers, and a clinical educator, is dedicated to supporting our staff and patient safety.</p><p>
Pavilion-6 is supported by our unit secretaries, critical care technicians and registered nurses seven days a week. We work towards having all of our nurses&rsquo; cross-trained in surgical intermediate within the first year at Cooper. Pavilion-6 fosters a close relationship with our providers, as our APN&rsquo;s and Surgical Residents are easily accessible for support, questions, and directions with patient care. They have offices right here on the unit, along with our leadership team and our transitional care team.</p><b><br>
