HQE's work is sensitive, subject to public scrutiny, and calculated to protect health care consumers. HQE seeks experienced public interest minded litigation attorneys to represent health care oversight state agencies in both prosecuting administrative cases against the licenses of dangerously negligent and incompetent medical professionals, including physicians, osteopaths, podiatrists, and psychologists, and defending our clients' health and safety mandates in state and federal civil litigation.</div><div></div><div><br>
Day-to-day duties include:
</div><ul><li>Analyzing medical records and medical expert reports in order to recommend charges and causes for license discipline against licensees under the jurisdiction of health care oversight client agencies</li><li>
Representing clients in administrative cases, writs, appeals, and injunctive proceedings in courts, including accusations, statement of issues, requests for bail restrictions and sentencing recommendations in criminal court, and interim suspension petitions against negligent and/or incompetent medical practitioners</li><li>
Defending our health care oversight agency clients, board members and client staff in state and federal litigation</li><li>
Appearing in specialized proceedings, including public board meetings in both open and closed sessions, and enforcing board subpoenas in superior courts</li><li>
Working closely with client agency representatives, sworn and unsworn investigators, medical consultant and independent expert witnesses, and patients to effectuate our clients' mandate to protect the public</li><li>
Advising client agencies in programmatic and public policy issues, including providing training to agency staff, including medical consultants and investigators</li></ul><div>
Deputies are expected to work under time constraints, client and department guidelines, and to abide by ethical and professional standards. Some travel within the state is required.<br>

</p><p>A health care law background and knowledge of the administrative adjudication process pursuant to the Administrative Procedure Act, Government Code section 11400 et. seq are highly desirable. Experience in medical malpractice litigation, health care fraud, and/or criminal law is highly desirable. Ability to demonstrate excellent judgment and tact when interacting with clients, the public, opposing counsel and judges; show strong initiative in improving the work of the office; have strong organizational skills; excellent oral and written communication skills; effective work habits under pressure and scrutiny; an ability to work effectively with all levels of Attorney General staff; and creativity and resourcefulness in solving problems. Knowledge of bargaining unit MOUs, civil service laws and rules, and disciplinary process are highly desirable. The ability to manage and resolve conflicts, and relate well with members of the Section, the public and representatives of administrative agencies. Demonstrated leadership ability.</p>

DEPUTY ATTORNEY GENERAL IV

Join a multidisciplinary team of attorneys, nurses, and special agents working together to prosecute elder and dependent adult abuse in California.

Within the Office of the Attorney General, the Division of Medi-Cal Fraud and Elder Abuse (DMFEA) works to investigate and prosecute fraud against the Medi-Cal program and abuse and neglect within California&rsquo;s long-term care facilities. Within DMFEA, the Facilities Enforcement Team (FET) Criminal Team plays a unique and critically important role in ensuring the safety and care of elderly and dependent persons residing in nursing homes and other facilities by investigating and prosecuting allegations of abuse and neglect.

Typical duties of the FET Criminal Team Deputy Attorney General include:
</div><div><ul><li>Working collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team of attorneys, special agents, nurses, auditors, and legal staff to investigate abuse and neglect referrals and complaints.
</li></ul></div><div><ul><li>Advising on the development of investigative plans, including reviewing warrants and interview strategy, and working with expert witnesses under a vertical prosecution model.

The role includes supervising DAGs and staff, addressing personnel matters, and allocating work assignments.
