The section&rsquo;s work is high profile and often involves complex litigation with a nationwide impact. Areas of focus include unfair and deceptive acts and practices targeting immigrants, the elderly, service members, veterans, and other vulnerable populations; predatory lending, debt collection, and other consumer financial matters; for-profit schools and student lending; tenant protection and other housing matters; and consumer privacy rights. In addition to prosecuting civil and criminal consumer protection cases, Deputy Attorneys General in the section draft amicus briefs on significant consumer protection issues, review proposed legislation and regulations affecting consumers, and engage in consumer education and advocacy.</div></div><div><br>
Typical duties include litigating at the trial and appellate levels in state and federal courts; conducting in-depth investigations and performing legal and other research; negotiating and drafting settlement and restitution plans; working with local law enforcement throughout California, attorneys general in other states, and other state and federal agencies in joint investigations and actions; drafting amicus briefs; proposing and reviewing legislation; and drafting consumer education materials.</div></div></div><p><br>

HQE's work is sensitive, subject to public scrutiny, and calculated to protect health care consumers. HQE seeks experienced public interest minded litigation attorneys to represent health care oversight state agencies in both prosecuting administrative cases against the licenses of dangerously negligent and incompetent medical professionals, including physicians, osteopaths, podiatrists, and psychologists, and defending our clients' health and safety mandates in state and federal civil litigation.</div><div></div><div><br>
Day-to-day duties include:
</div><ul><li>Analyzing medical records and medical expert reports in order to recommend charges and causes for license discipline against licensees under the jurisdiction of health care oversight client agencies</li><li>
Representing clients in administrative cases, writs, appeals, and injunctive proceedings in courts, including accusations, statement of issues, requests for bail restrictions and sentencing recommendations in criminal court, and interim suspension petitions against negligent and/or incompetent medical practitioners</li><li>

Ability to work under tight deadlines, public scrutiny, and pressure to produce high quality work in short time frames. A demonstrated ability and experience in developing litigation plans, and in efficiently managing large caseloads. Excellent research and writing skills (exhibited by recent drafting of motions, complaints, petitions for injunctive relief, dispositive motions, and/or appellate briefs), as well as skill in oral advocacy and negotiations (exhibited by recent appearances in trial and appellate courts, and participation in settlement conferences). Well-organized and detail-oriented, a positive attitude, be team players, excellent work ethic and strong skills in interpersonal communication and collaboration. Highly motivated to work in the area of consumer protection, public safety and health care law on behalf of the Attorney General and the State. A demonstrated ability and experience in exercising excellent judgment.
</p><p>A health care law background and knowledge of the administrative adjudication process pursuant to the Administrative Procedure Act, Government Code section 11400 et. seq are highly desirable. Experience in medical malpractice litigation, health care fraud, and/or criminal law is highly desirable. Ability to demonstrate excellent judgment and tact when interacting with clients, the public, opposing counsel and judges; show strong initiative in improving the work of the office; have strong organizational skills; excellent oral and written communication skills; effective work habits under pressure and scrutiny; an ability to work effectively with all levels of Attorney General staff; and creativity and resourcefulness in solving problems. Knowledge of bargaining unit MOUs, civil service laws and rules, and disciplinary process are highly desirable. CCS deputies represent state agencies in civil litigation in all levels of both state and federal court (both plaintiff and defense), and the Department of Cannabis Control before the Office of Administrative Hearings and the Cannabis Control Appeals Panel.</div><div></div><div><br>
The duties of CCS Deputy Attorneys General include, but are not limited to, the following:</div><div><br>

<div><p>The Financial Crimes Prosecution Unit is a specialized prosecution group based in Chicago that investigates and prosecutes a wide range of complex economic crimes throughout Illinois. Those prosecutions include cases involving various types of sophisticated insurance, securities and bank fraud schemes, embezzlement schemes, and public corruption. Cases are received from federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies and from county states attorneys.<br>
An Assistant Attorney General assigned to the unit will prosecute cases throughout the state and should expect to travel. Cases in the unit are handled as vertical prosecutions; AAsG are expected to handle cases from intake through sentencing. An attorney in this position is expected to provide legal advice and assistance to law enforcement agencies during the course of investigation, evaluate cases for prosecution, initiate prosecutions, and handle their cases through sentencing and post-trial motions. AAsG in the unit frequently conduct grand jury investigations and should expect to litigate grand jury matters. Search warrants, overhears, and in some instances undercover operations are used in some investigations. Assistant Attorneys General are expected to draft petitions for and obtain search warrants and overhear orders and work with law enforcement in planning undercover operations.</p></div>
<div><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>Qualifications</b></h2></div>
<div><p>The candidate should have an in-depth knowledge of the principles of criminal law, in general and some knowledge of the statutes used to prosecute various types of white collar crime. The candidate should have two or more years of felony trial experience, preferably involving white collar crime. Knowledge of the law of evidence as it relates to privileges is particularly important. Familiarity with grand jury practice and procedure would be a plus. The candidate must be an attorney licensed to practice law in the State of Illinois at the time of application and be willing to travel.</p></div>

<div><div>The Senior Deputy State&rsquo;s Attorney performs routine professional legal work in the prosecution of civil and criminal crimes, juvenile crimes, and juvenile abuse and neglect cases in Lincoln County. Actual responsibilities of the Senior Deputy State&rsquo;s Attorney vary dependent upon vacant position but may include reviewing offenses and evidence to make determination on charges and prosecuting violations of state law, reviewing requests for petitions and determining appropriate course of action, communicating with victims, law enforcement officials, and other individuals about cases, making recommendations for child custody and parental rights, and attending legal proceedings.</div><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>
Job Responsibilities:</b></h2><ul><li>
Prepare and manage a caseload of misdemeanor cases, felonies, juvenile violation cases, or juvenile abuse and neglect cases. Present cases for legal proceedings. Perform legal research. Prepare, draft, and file legal documents and correspondence.</li><li>
Review offenses, police reports, and evidence to make determination on charges. Prepare, send, and track subpoenas for witnesses and records. Prepare and interview witnesses for legal proceedings. Select jurors.</li><li>
Stay informed on changes in relevant laws, statutes, and proposed legislation and policy pertaining to criminal law, juvenile delinquency, and juvenile abuse and neglect. Draft proposed legislation and appear before legislative committees.</li><li>
Communicate, correspond, and collaborate with parties involved in cases including victims, parents, school personnel, attorneys, court personnel, and law enforcement regarding procedures and actions for those cases. This may include after hour and weekend calls from law enforcement on cases that require immediate attention from the State&rsquo;s Attorney&rsquo;s Office.</li><li>
Make recommendations for custody, parental rights, sentences, and restitution.</li><li>
Represent the State&rsquo;s Attorney&rsquo;s Office at public, private, and inter-governmental programs and events, communicate with the media, prepare press releases, and serve on boards, panels, and task forces.</li><li>
Train and educate volunteers, law enforcement, and social workers on their roles and duties on legal issues and the court process duties. This may include the training of interns, new attorneys, and other staff as assigned.</li><li>
Answer, handle, or direct phone calls and walk-in traffic from law enforcement, the general public, and media regarding legal concerns or inquiries.</li></ul><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>
Minimum Qualifications</b></h2><div>
Graduation from a college of law, attainment of a Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school, and admission by the Supreme Court of South Dakota to practice law in the state of South Dakota or be licensed to practice law in any other state and able to take the next available South Dakota bar examination or be a recent or imminent law school graduate, eligible to sit for the next available South Dakota bar examination. Comparable combination of education and experience may be considered. Consideration for appointment of Senior Deputy State&rsquo;s Attorney requires a minimum of 6 years of relevant work experience and are able to take on a felony caseload.</div><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>
