<div><div><b>DEPUTY STATE&rsquo;S ATTORNEY POSITION, HUGHES COUNTY: </b>Full-time permanent position now open for a Deputy State&rsquo;s Attorney in the Hughes County Office of the State&rsquo;s Attorney in Pierre, South Dakota.
</div><div></div><div>The Hughes County State&rsquo;s Attorney&rsquo;s Office is looking for an attorney to handle all juvenile matters including delinquency proceedings, CHINS petitions, and abuse and neglect matters, present those cases for legal proceedings, perform legal research, and prepare, draft and file legal documents and correspondence. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to: covering felony and misdemeanor hearings when required, advising local law enforcement agencies and working with DSS, dealing with juvenile justice issues, providing information to victims and witnesses and helping to fulfill the statutory responsibilities of the office.</div><div>

The purpose of this classification is to provide legal counsel to assigned departments, boards, elected officials, and employees. This classification is distinguished from Assistant County Counsel in that incumbents in this class are assigned multiple or larger departments, are assigned more complex matters, and have sufficient law experience and skills to function with significant autonomy representing the interests of Fulton County-related clients with limited supervision. The Fulton County Attorney&rsquo;s Office (FCAO) serves as in-house counsel for all non-criminal legal matters in Fulton County, an organization consisting of over 5,000 employees and officials. The FCAO handles a broad range and high volume of transactions and lawsuits that touch upon all operational aspects of the largest county in the State of Georgia, as well as handling routine and complex litigation. Matters handled in this office span from administrative to constitutional law, with clients and practice areas that include public health and safety, labor and employment, compliance, real estate, finance, taxation, emergency services, licensing and code enforcement, personal injury, premises liability, community development, arts and culture, film industry, information technology, public works and infrastructure, elections, libraries, courts, boards, and authorities.<br>

The ideal candidate will have 3 to 5 years of civil litigation experience defending public entities, knowledge of the Government Code, the Tort Claims Act, and the various immunities which apply to public entities in civil litigation. They will have effective and persuasive written and oral advocacy skills, solid legal writing background, and legal research skills. The candidate will have the ability to work collaboratively for some projects and independently for others. They will be comfortable and competent to handle civil litigation from inception to conclusion, including any potential appeal and post-trial motions.<br>

This is a professional-level classification populated with multiple incumbents assigned to a City Attorney&rsquo;s office. In general the Deputy City Attorney II is responsible for a variety of professional legal duties. Work involves handling civil law problems including the preparation of cases for trial, drafting resolutions and documents and preparation of legal opinions. The incumbent's work may also involve handling civil, criminal and administrative matters, city code violations, investigations, legal research, preparing and filing court documents, appearances before judicial and quasi-judicial bodies, labor relations, and education of City staff.<br>

Deputy City Attorney II is the intermediate to more experienced level of Deputy City Attorney. Incumbents are expected to use sound professional judgment and skill in performing work, which may be reviewed and approved by a Supervising Deputy City Attorney, and in some cases, by the Assistant City Attorney or the City Attorney.
