 The role
 
 
 
 We are looking for an experienced Developer Experience Engineer (DevEx / DX) to join our Platform team with a remit of accelerating developers and removing engineering friction across the organisation.
 
 
 
 
 
 This role can be based in any of our UK offices: London, Manchester or Bath.
 
 
 
 
 
 As the first DevEx engineer, you will shape how developer experience is measured and improved across the organisation.This is a founding individual contributor role, suited to someone excited by building a DevEx function from the ground up and delivering meaningful change in a hands-on way.
 
 
 Success will be measured by improvements in developer productivity metrics, reduced onboarding time (as engineers join or move between teams), faster feedback loops in CI/CD, and high satisfaction from engineering teams.
 
 
 
 
 
 Reporting to the Director of Engineering for Platform, and partnering with engineering leadership, you will assume a range of key responsibilities to define and deliver Netcraft&rsquo;s DevEx roadmaps identifying areas of friction, prioritising the right initiatives, implementing improvements directly where needed, and enabling teams to own and execute improvements with appropriate guidance and support.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 Your responsibilities will include:

 Lead the evaluation and integration of developer tools, especially AI-assisted development tooling. Support team adoption by sharing knowledge, running demos, tracking utilisation and demonstrating value. Experiment with emerging developer tooling and evaluate their real-world impact on engineering productivity.

 Develop and maintain "golden path" templates and scaffolding to accelerate project bootstrapping and promote consistent engineering practices.
 </li>
 <li>
 Improve and standardise the local development experience across all engineering teams (environment setup, local services, test data, etc.) to reduce onboarding and iteration time.

 <li>
 Work with the rest of the Platform Engineering department to securely abstract Infrastructure and Cloud tasks away from software engineers.
 </li>
 <li>
 Support teams by assessing and recommending improvements to CI/CD pipelines and SDLC processes.Reduce build and test feedback loops by improving CI pipeline performance and reliability.
 </li>

 Define and track developer productivity metrics (e.g. build times, CI performance, deployment frequency) to identify systemic friction and measure improvement.

A day in the role:

The role: 
 
Joining our Cloud Platform team as a Lead DevEx Engineer, you will play a key role in improving how engineers build, ship and operate services across Liberis. This is a brand new role created to bridge the gap between application development and platform engineering - creating a more consistent, scalable developer experience as we continue to evolve our platform strategy. 
 
You will focus on building for engineers - creating and shaping the templates, standards and foundations used across services. Alongside this, you will have the opportunity to contribute to emerging platform initiatives, including work that supports AI enablement across the engineering organisation. 
 
This is a high-impact role with real scope to influence how engineering works at Liberis! 


What you'll get to do in the role:
<ul>
<li>Own and evolve the service template library for .NET, Node.js, and Python &mdash; covering project scaffolding, dependency management, containerisation, local dev setup, and production configuration. Templates are generated, not forked, so keeping them current and opinionated matters.</li>
<li>Build and maintain CI/CD pipeline templates in GitHub Actions and/or Azure DevOps, covering build, test, security scanning, and deployment &mdash; consistent across stacks and reusable across teams.</li>
<li>Define and ship observability standards: structured logging, distributed tracing, and alerting integrated into service templates so every new service is production-ready from day one.</li>
<li>Work hands-on with Datadog, incident.io, and/or GCP/Azure-native logging and monitoring tooling to build the platform-level observability layer teams plug into.</li>
<li>Contribute to our thinking on a potential Azure-to-GCP migration &mdash; helping assess what changes for developer tooling and service templates and building proof-of-concept work that informs the decision.</li>
<li>Partner with product engineers to understand where developer experience breaks down &mdash; slow pipelines, confusing templates, missing runbooks &mdash; and fix the root causes, not the symptoms.</li>
<li>Lead technical decisions on platform tooling: evaluate new tools, write ADRs, and drive adoption of improvements across multiple engineering teams.</li>
<li>Mentor engineers in the Cloud Platform team and act as a go-to resource for product engineers getting to grips with platform tooling.</li></ul>

What we think you'll need:
<ul>
<li>Proficient in at least one of .NET (C#), Node.js and Python &mdash; able to build, configure, and template production-grade services in each.</li>
<li>Strong GCP experience (Azure experience is nice to have)</li>
<li>Hands-on experience designing reusable CI/CD pipeline templates &mdash; GitHub Actions or Azure DevOps &mdash; consistent across stacks and teams.</li>
<li>Comfortable with containerisation (Docker) and deployment on Kubernetes or Cloud Run.</li>
<li>Observability experience with at least one of: Datadog, incident.io, or cloud-native logging and monitoring (GCP Cloud Operations or Azure Monitor).</li>
<li>Infrastructure-as-code with Terraform.</li>
<li>A proven track record of driving adoption &mdash; building things engineers use, writing docs that get read.</li></ul>
