Position Summary
The Photography/Digital Archivist supports the care, organization, digitization, and accessibility of ICP&rsquo;s photographic and digital assets. This role contributes to cataloging, metadata creation, digitization initiatives, and digital preservation efforts, while collaborating with colleagues across collections, exhibitions, education, and technology teams. The position balances hands-on work with physical materials and digital asset management responsibilities.
Requirements:

Collection Processing &amp; Description<ul><li>
Arrange, catalog, and describe analog and digital photographic collections following archival standards (e.g., DACS, CCO, VRA Core)</li><li>
Create collection-level and item-level metadata with a high level of accuracy and consistency</li><li>

Qualifications
Required<ul><li>
MLIS, Master&rsquo;s in Archives, Museum Studies, or related degree; or equivalent education and experience</li><li>

Job Description 
 
Boston College Libraries are seeking one temporary full-time archivist, to arrange and 
describe digital files from a digital collection of the archdiocesan papers of Saint &Oacute;scar Romero. 
Romero was assassinated on March 24, 1980 while Archbishop of San Salvador and 
named a modern martyr by the Catholic Church. The collection is a digitized version of the 
microfilmed papers that the Archdiocese of San Salvador has authorized Boston College to 
appraise and host in an open-access database. The archivist will prepare and implement a processing plan, for arranging and describing the digital materials (with both hierarchical descriptions and item-level metadata, in Spanish and 
English), and for assisting with a thorough review of the files to help determine which to include in the database. The archivist will also advise on other aspects of the Project as appropriate, including the evaluation of content and interfaces for public online access to the Project materials. The archivist may also supervise part-time student assistants who will support various aspects of the Project. The archivist will report to the Associate Director of Academic Programs and Special Projects, who is supervising the Project

Established in 2019, the program&rsquo;s mission is to collect, preserve, and provide access to the archival records of Catholic religious congregations worldwide, that are either coming to completion or needing support to maintain their documentary heritage. The archivists will report to the Director of the Catholic Religious Archives.

 Accession items to the Archives through basic preservation and description

 Update Archives records as materials are received

 Assist visitors to the Archives with access to materials

 Keep the Archives organized and reshelve items

 Track use of the Archives by university and external people/organizations
