The Role:
Direct Support Professional is responsible for teaching basic daily living and social skills to clients residing in Chapel Haven Residential Program. The Direct Support Professional plays a crucial role in coordinating and delivering the social commutative competence curriculum, ensuring that clients develop essential life skills for greater independence. The Direct Support Professional is essential in fostering an environment where residents can develop the skills needed for a more independent and fulfilling life. 
 Essential Responsibilities:<ul><li>
Teaching client&rsquo;s good nutrition habits, meal planning seafood storage, meal preparation, improper use of kitchen equipment (e.g., stove microwave George Foreman grill).</li><li>
And trucking clients and apartment maintenance skills, including maintaining a clean and organized living space, proper use of cleaning products, and in home safety practices.</li><li>
Teaching personal hygiene and grooming skills, such as showering, shaving hair care, brushing teeth, and scheduling personal care appointments.</li><li>
Providing instruction on laundry tasks, including task analysis and the use of a laundry checklist.</li><li>

The Direct Support Professional reports to the Residential House Manager (or the Assistant Residential House Manager in the absence of the Residential House Manager) and is responsible for the daily care, supervision and safety of developmentally disabled individuals in both the residential and community settings. Ensuring overnight awake coverage is alert and responsive to needs of individuals. Direct Support Professional will follow through on assignments set by the Residential House Manager and will be responsible for the day-to-day implementation of the Individual Support Plans and Behavioral Management Plans. This position will be compensated on an hourly basis. 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:<ul><li>
Monitor individuals for health and safety.</li><li>
Safely evacuate individuals from residence in the event of fire or disaster.</li><li>
Physically assist individuals, as needed, in transfer and carries, both ambulatory and non-ambulatory.</li><li>
Physically escort/restrain individuals during emergency situations or behavioral episodes</li><li>
Physically assist individual, as needed, in bathing and personal hygiene tasks which may include lifts and support to individuals with body weights of 150 - 250 pounds.</li><li>

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Direct Support Staff provides direct care and services to persons with developmental disabilities. Assist in all aspects of the ongoing activities of the residential program.</li><li>
Develops rapport with each individual served in a manner that demonstrates respect and an approach that centers on each person&rsquo;s goals and preference.</li><li>

Knowledge of rehabilitative programs for individuals with developmental disabilities preferred.
</li><li>Skill in the operation of computers and applicable computer software.</li><li>
Ability to provide resident care; to prepare and maintain records both electronically and on paper, to administer first aid or cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), to conduct prevention and management of aggressive behavior (PMAB), and to communicate effectively.</li><li>
Must maintain a valid driver's license, auto liability insurance and a driving record acceptable to the Centers insurance requirements.</li></ul>

Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to perform the physical requirements of PMAB.
