Under the supervision of the Legal Advocacy Program Supervisor (LAPS), the Legal Advocate conducts initial assessments with domestic violence clients to identify existing or anticipated legal issues, and provides education, referrals, direct services, and resources to support clients. This position educates clients on their legal options available and works with the client to achieve the legal goals that the advocate and client have created.
Duties and Responsibilities
Program Responsibilities<ul><li>
Assess the level and history of violence experienced and aid in the development of a safety plan for victims and their children.</li><li>
Create a client centered legal advocacy case plan and continue providing services, information, and referrals to its completion (to the extent possible).</li><li>
Provide information to victims of domestic violence about the laws, resources, and services available.
</li><li>Develop and maintain relationships with and knowledge of Orange County&rsquo;s domestic violence service providers and resources and give appropriate referrals to clients.

<div>JOB SUMMARY: 
The Victim Advocate is responsible for providing comprehensive trauma-informed 
advocacy and case management services for adult survivors of domestic violence, sexual 
violence, and human trafficking through New Life Center's Outreach Department.
This position has multiple locations to include New Life Center Shelter, New Life Center's 
Sunshine Healing Services, and in the community based on the survivor's needs.
The goal of this position is to provide trauma-informed, survivor-led supportive services to 
primary and secondary survivors. The services offered at New Life Center promote healing, 
community, and empowerment. The Advocate position upholds New Life Center's mission, 
vision, and core values of compassion, resilience, equity, and community.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 
Supervision - None
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 
Direct Services 
1. Provides trauma-informed advocacy and case management for survivor participants. 
2. Provides culturally relevant services to all survivors and their families, including women, 
men, children, LGBTQ+, and survivors of diverse ethnic, racial, and cultural backgrounds. 
3. Facilitates survivor support groups and activities. 
4. Works collaboratively with community partners to provide holistic healing options and 
culturally specific healing modalities to survivors at Sunshine Healing Services. 
5. Provides information, referral and assistance related to victim rights.
6. Accompanies survivors when interacting with members of the legal system, including law 
enforcement, courts, and prosecutors. This includes law enforcement coordination if/when 
a survivor wishes to file a police report. 
7. May provide transportation to and from court hearings and other legal-related 
appointments when necessary and appropriate. 
8. Assists with victim advocacy/accompaniment to emergency medical care and/or medical 
forensic examinations. 
9. Assesses level and history of violence experienced and aids in the development of a safety 
plan for survivors. 
10. Assesses survivor's immediate needs and develops a case plan with referrals to services 
which align with the survivor's goals. 
11. Provides information and referrals to legal aid agencies and/or agencies specializing in 
immigration, child abuse, elder abuse, and/or disabilities. 
12. Documents all survivor and community services rendered in appropriate database(s) 
timely, accurately, and completely. 
13. Tracks and monitors service performance at least weekly and provides written and/or oral 
reports, as requested, on performance strengths and needs in weekly program meetings 
and/or during regularly scheduled supervision. 
14. Assist in other programs as needed. 
Community Outreach 
1. Participates in agency-wide awareness and/or initiates awareness and outreach events 
throughout Maricopa County. 
2. Participates in agency-wide events, trainings, and educational seminars. 
3. Participates in multi-disciplinary team meetings to make meaningful contributions. 
4. Cultivates relationships with community partners and allied professions with the goal of 
facilitating a coordinated community response to domestic violence, sexual assault, and 
human trafficking. 
5. Lends creativity and skill to enhance agency outreach. 
6. Participates in local efforts to improve the community's response to domestic violence, 
sexual assault, human trafficking.
Agency Management 
1. Assist with program service delivery in all New Life Center's programs including outreach, 
emergency shelter and the children's development center. 
2. Participates in and contributes to staff meetings, staff committees, and special events for 
staff. 
3. Participate as an active team member of the Outreach Department Team including 
attending department meetings and coordinating services with Child/Youth Advocates, 
Lead Advocates, and Family Case Manager and Housing Specialist. 
4. Communicate emergencies, survivor concerns, and organizational needs to the designated 
on-call staff member or appropriate member of the leadership team. 
Other 
1. Participate in the culture of cooperation and collaboration among New Life Center staff, 
interns, and volunteers. 
2. Support and adhere to all policies regarding participant and program confidentiality. 
3. Ensure the regular use of releases of information (ROIs) when coordinating services with 
outside partner agencies on behalf of children, youth, and/or families. 
4. Actively contribute to New Life Center's trauma informed philosophy. 
5. Keep current on issues of domestic violence, sexual violence, and human trafficking 
including seeking out appropriate training opportunities. 
6. Participate in scheduled agency-wide meetings and events as assigned.

2. Demonstrated expertise in the areas of sexual violence, domestic violence, and human 
trafficking. 
3. One or more years of experience in survivor advocacy and/or case management. 
4. Valid Arizona driver's license and insurance. 
5. Currently possess, or ability to successfully obtain Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance** 
6. CPR/1st Aid Certified. **

The Seattle City Attorney’s Office Domestic Violence Unit prosecutes crimes of misdemeanor intimate partner domestic violence, family violence involving adult children, elder abuse, and child abuse/neglect cases. The Domestic Violence Unit provides support and resources for child, adult and elder victims.The Domestic Violence Unit is proud of its diversity and is represented by people of various cultures and ethnic/racial backgrounds. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
 Utilize our internal case management system, Justice Nexus, to generate standard letters notifying victims by either email or postal mail of whether charges were filed or declined in order to comply with RCW 7.69 (victim rights statute); Generate other standard letters, sent by either postal mail or email, to victims upon request from an advocate;Assign incoming reports to advocates, tracking the caseloads to ensure equal distribution. Update relevant systems to communicate the assignment;Notify any prosecutors with pending cases against the same defendant that a new police report has been received, and exchange police reports to coordinate across units and jurisdictions;Track reports declined for felony filing to ensure those reports are prioritized for advocate assignment;Generate standard reports from the City Attorney’s Office internal case management system;Enter and update information into the City Attorney’s Office internal case management system; Coordinate with other departments (internal and external) and the general public: explain office policies and procedures, receive and share information as a part of the City’s coordinated community response to domestic violence; As needed, provide administrative support to the Victim Advocate Supervisor and the Domestic Violence Unit Supervising Attorney to include scheduling meetings, taking, preparing, and distributing meeting minutes, and handling sensitive and confidential matters; As needed, assist with special projects to include research on best practices, contact with neighboring or similar cities to gather and compile information needed to make process or policy changes, and keep detailed administrative records;Support marginalized communities, including immigrant and refugee victims, acting as a liaison to the criminal justice system and the City Attorney’s Office;Organize U Visa certification applications, gathering information needed to assist the domestic violence unit supervisor with completing the certification, responding in a timely manner, and keeping detailed records;Research suspects in JABS and other court databases to gather background information on felony criminal cases and civil protection orders to allow the advocate and prosecutor to make an informed risk assessment;Evaluate risk in each report to help advocates triage and prioritize cases;Meet competing deadlines and comply with schedules in a fast paced, high volume work environment through excellent time management; andOther duties as assigned.

Community Health Action of Staten Island (CHASI) drives dramatic improvements in the health of New Yorkers by feeding people who are hungry, healing families broken apart by violence, and bridging the gaps between people and the compassionate health care they deserve. CHASI provides outreach, education, prevention, and direct support services for populations most affected by health disparities &ndash; people with low or no income, low-income people with chronic illnesses, people with criminal justice involvement, people who use drugs, domestic violence survivors, people of color, and the LGBTQ community.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Domestic Violence &amp; Trauma Services Program offers a comprehensive suite of services to survivors of domestic violence with enhanced focus on education and linkage to health &amp; wellness through both individual and group counseling supportive services. CHASI works in collaboration with the Staten Island Family Justice Center to expand reach and capacity. Domestic violence and trauma services are co-located. Services are provided at two different locations, 26 Bay Street Site and the Staten Island Family Justice Center (FJC).
The Intensive Case Manager will manage a high-risk caseload with a specific focus on working with complex, intersectional cases of domestic and gender-based violence including, but not limited to, family violence, elder abuse, human trafficking, and sexual violence. The Intensive Case Manager will navigate clients through the many complex systems called into action in service plans, such as behavioral health services, medical services, criminal justice, family court, and child protective services. The Intensive Case Manager will be a strong advocate who can provide ongoing support to clients with the police, prosecutors, housing, shelters, schools, public assistance, and other service providers. The Intensive Case Manager will provide on-going and enhanced follow-up with clients to ensure that clients are accessing and successfully connecting with the array of supportive services available at the FJC and through off site partnerships and linkages, creating positive relationships with on and off-site partners.
DUTIES &amp; RESPONSIBILITIES:<ul><li>
Conduct initial comprehensive assessments, safety planning, and risk assessments with clients.</li><li>
Navigate the client to execute their service plans, including making active referrals, accompany clients to various appointments, provide coaching to clients, deliver weekly or monthly education encounters, plan logistics for plan adherence reminders, conduct regular follow-up, and assist with transportation to get to and from appointments. Contact clients via phone, text, and email should they fail to attend appointments or stray from documented service planning.</li><li>
Provide trauma-informed education about domestic violence and all forms of gender-based violence.</li><li>

Requirements: 
QUALIFICATIONS:<ul><li>
Education: Bachelor&rsquo;s degree in health, human services, education, social work, or mental health with 1 year of qualifying experience OR Associates degree in related field with minimum 3-4 years of qualifying experience; qualifying experience includes work with individuals at high risk of contracting HIV/AIDS, history of mental illness or substance use, harm reduction, domestic violence, immigrants, LGBTQ, etc.</li><li>
At least 3 years of experience working with culturally diverse and vulnerable populations who have experienced trauma. Must be able to demonstrate the ability to engage and serve the domestic violence population targeted by this program and have strong engagement and follow-up experience.</li><li>
Fluency in Spanish highly preferred.</li><li>
Have familiarity with orders of protection and navigation of the criminal and family court systems.</li><li>
Must have basic knowledge regarding HIV, HCV, STI, PEP/PrEP and Harm Reduction methods.</li><li>
Excellent MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams) and internet navigation skills.</li><li>
Ability to work independently and as a team; be team player with an ability to work with diverse teams with shared responsibility and accountability; ability to contribute to a positive, productive, open, and supportive environment that motivates others to perform at their best.</li><li>
Must possess the ability to interact with all levels of external and internal partners with a high level of professionalism and tact in representing CHASI.</li><li>
Strong verbal and written communication skills, including capability to listen and follow instructions; able to give, provide direction and follow up on task; high attention to detail and accuracy. Be highly organized and able to multitask.</li></ul>
