 Performs duties as a certified inspector in at least four specialized areas using relevant SCDOT, ACI, and SCDES certifications. Certifications can include: SCDOT Asphalt Roadway Technician, SCDOT Earthwork &amp; Drainage Inspector, SCDOT Concrete Field Technician, SCDOT Foundations Technician, SCDOT Pavement Preservation Level 1, ACI Concrete Field Technician - Grade 1, and SCDHEC Erosion Prevention &amp; Sediment Control Inspector. Acts as lead inspector to ensure all required tests are performed and all samples are obtained. Ensures all daily work reports and inspection forms are accurate and no more than 7 days behind. Performs Wage Interviews, traffic control inspections, and erosion control inspections. Reviews and enters sample and material certification information into ProjectWise and AASHTOWare in a timely manner. Reviews contracts, plans, standard drawings, and all specifications to ensure contractors are meeting requirements. Operates all survey equipment to verify contractor's work. Observes drilled shaft and pile installations to obtain or maintain SCDOT Foundations Certification. Meets with general public, contractors, property owners, and utility companies. Assists in the preparation of final plans and monthly construction estimates. Notifies the contractor, ARCE, or RCE of any issues that occur on the project site and ensures conflicts are resolved in an appropriate and timely manner. Accurately measures, calculates, and records quantities of installed contract pay items in the field and enters the information into AASHTOWare for accurate contractor payment. Performs other related duties as assigned.

 The physical demands for the essential functions involves frequent bending, kneeling, stooping and lifting up to 50 lbs. In this position, you&rsquo;ll serve as a technical expert and trusted field representative on complex construction projects. You&rsquo;ll oversee inspections across airfield and landside systems, including paving, utilities, drainage, and stormwater, ensuring compliance with plans, safety standards, and regulatory requirements. You&rsquo;ll also mentor and guide junior inspectors, collaborate with contractors and stakeholders, and help drive high-quality project delivery that supports safe and efficient airport operations. </b></p><p>Airport Civil Inspector III: $32.49 - $40.23/hr</p><p>
Airport Civil Inspector II: $29.47 - $36.47/hr</p><p>

Typical Duties:</p><ul><li><p>
Monitors construction activities to ensure adherence to approved plans, specifications, codes and safety standards, escalating issues, and support timely resolution.</p></li><li><p>
Conducts field inspections to confirm project quality, regulatory conformity, and contract compliance.</p></li><li><p>
Acts as a liaison between project teams, contractors, and Division stakeholders to communicate requirements, schedule impacts, and relevant project information.</p></li><li><p>
Participates in pre-construction and weekly construction coordination meetings to establish expectations, clarify milestones, and support collaborative problem-solving.</p></li><li><p>
Maintains clear and accurate project records, including daily reports, testing results, as-built documentation, and construction logs.</p></li><li><p>
Supports verification of completed work quantities to facilitate accurate contractor payments.</p></li><li><p>
Utilizes engineering software, GIS tools, and measurement techniques to assist with design reviews, project analysis, and documentation.</p></li><li><p>
Reviews safety practices&mdash;including traffic control, trenching, confined space procedures, and public protection&mdash;to promote safe work environments.</p></li></ul><ul><li><p>
Oversees compliance with applicable regulatory standards, including Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requirements, and ensures alignment with Salt Lake City Department of Airports (SLCDA) policies and procedures.</p></li><li><p>
Responsible for the inspection of airfield and landside electrical, water, sewer, storm drain, grading, paving, and striping on runways, taxiways, aprons, roadways, parking lots, and utility corridors.</p></li><li><p>
Performs routine inspection tasks while providing guidance to level I and level II Inspectors.</p></li><li><p>

Minimum Qualifications:</p><p>
Airport Civil Inspector III:</p><ul><li><p><b>
High school diploma or equivalent plus four (4) years of construction or utility experience; one year of which must have been performing public infrastructure or utility inspection.</b></p></li><li><p><b>
Two (2) years of post-high-school education in a construction related field (construction management, engineering, etc.) may be substituted for two (2) years of the experiential requirement.</b></p></li><li><p>
 Incumbents must obtain re: American Public Works Association (APWA) Certified Public Infrastructure Inspection (CPII) certification or department approved equivalent within 6 months of hire date.</p></li><li><p>
Knowledge of utility, building, and zoning codes and applicable local, state, and federal code.</p></li><li><p>
Knowledge of construction standards, civil inspection methods and testing procedures pertaining to paving, grading, utilities, drainage, stormwater management, and erosion control.</p></li><li><p>
Ability to read plans, use computer applications, and perform basic construction related math.</p></li><li><p>
Strong communication skills with the ability to work with diverse stakeholders.</p></li><li><p>

Working Conditions:</p><ul><li><p>
Considerable exposure to hazards on construction sites when inspecting structures. Exposure to multi-story elevations, cramped quarters, temporary stairs and planks, temperature extremes, dust, noise, power equipment and vehicular traffic.</p></li><li><p>
Intermittent exposure to stressful situations as a result of human behavior and the demands of the position.</p></li><li><p>
