In addition to providing direct and indirect patient care, the hematology oncology PA serves as a role model for professional advanced practice and participates in the professional development of the team through teaching, committee involvement or quality and safety initiatives. The hematology oncology PA will provide thorough, compassionate, culturally sensitive clinical care and should demonstrate operational flexibility and strong leadership, problem-solving and communication skills in order to work effectively with other members of the team.</p><ul><li>Performs comprehensive histories and physical examinations.</li><li>Completes high quality and timely documentation.</li><li>Participates in scheduled encounters, maintains capacity for urgent care for the evaluation and management of complex oncologic symptoms or treatment toxicities and improves access for newly diagnosed hematology oncology patients.</li><li>Orders, interprets, and evaluates appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests.</li><li>Ensues appropriate diagnostic procedures occur in a timely manner through careful coordination with other services such as radiology, facilitating various clinic appointments, communicating with patients regarding test results, and providing coverage for the team</li><li>Performs (oversees/assures completion of) specialized procedures particular to the select medical oncology population mutually agreed upon with the supervising physician.</li><li>Follows and manages patients (in collaboration with MD) enhancing continuity of care across the trajectory of illness.</li><li>Develops appropriate plans of care and follow-up based on the outcomes of diagnostic, laboratory, and physical examination findings across the trajectory of illness.</li><li>Facilitates patient movement through the system and efficient use of resources through interdepartmental collaboration.</li><li>Facilitates and co-manages communications between physicians, patients, family, and staff.</li><li>Orders medications and writes prescriptions, inclusive of standard of care antineoplastics and oncologic investigational new drugs according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures.</li><li>Participates in research efforts to advance knowledge and to promote research-based practice.</li><li>Appreciates the complex medical environments of cancer patients including, but not limited to, those with advanced malignancy or organ dysfunction and the risk for complex drug interactions.</li><li>Maintains and updates clinical knowledge and skills based on current health care practice/research. Experience in an ambulatory practice is strongly preferred.</li><li>Minimum 1 year experience signing antineoplastic orders strongly preferred.</li><li>Proficiency with Epic and EMRs strongly preferred.</li><li>EPIC Inbasket management, telemedicine experience strongly preferred.</li><li>Familiarity with clinical trials strongly preferred.</li></ul></div><p><br>

The Medical-Surgical ICU (MSICU) at Brigham and Women's Hospital is a pioneering 10-bed unit and the first Physician Assistant-run ICU in our hospital. These roles focus on providing high-quality patient care and promoting wellness. APCs work collaboratively with physicians and other healthcare professionals to diagnose and treat a variety of acute and chronic conditions. In addition, this role focuses on conducting comprehensive patient assessments, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, developing and implementing treatment plans for acute and chronic illness, providing education to patients and families about preventive care, treatment options, and self-care techniques, and evaluation of therapeutic response to the treatment plan and with adjustment of interventions developed as needed. A professional individual contributor role that may direct the work of other lower level professionals or manage processes and programs. The majority of time is spent overseeing the design, implementation or delivery of processes, programs and policies using specialized knowledge and skills typically acquired through advanced education. Job Overview</b></p><p>
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is responsible for providing primary care for a caseload of patients. As an advanced practice nurse, the NP has received specialized training and education in the management of the acute care. The NP is uniquely qualified to meet the responsibilities of the role which include, but are not limited to: Comprehensive assessment, diagnosis and treatment; Prescribing and performance of diagnostic and therapeutic interventions; Supervise protocols and insure compliance of studies; Development, evaluation and modifications of treatment plans as patient condition warrants; Review/prescribe therapeutic orders for patients; and Participate in diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as indicated by patient condition. The NP practices in collaboration with the attending physician and other members of the multidisciplinary team to insure optimal patient outcomes. The NP works in conjunction with the primary nurse to provide patient and family centered care, providing psycho-emotional support, educational support and discharge planning that is individualized and comprehensive. Additionally, the NP will be able to provide clinical consultation and participate in medical and nursing research. The NP will participate in continuing education, quality improvement initiatives, clinical outcome evaluation and monitoring.</p><p></p><p><b>

Minimum Qualifications:</b></p><p>
1. Masters degree in Nursing.</p><p>
2. Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) license.</p><p>
3. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.</p><p>

5. Certifications (i.e. ACLS, PALS) or additional state licensure relevant to the department and type of care being provided may be required.</p><p></p><p><b><br>

2. Provide care that is appropriate to the age of patients served in the clinical area.</p><p>
3. Performs procedures and treatments using nursing judgment and according to established practice guidelines and professional standards.</p><p>
4. Orders and administers drugs in a manner that demonstrates advanced knowledge of pharmacology and medications. Monitors medication treatment according to patient&rsquo;s response.</p><p>
5. Remains knowledgeable about equipment and utilizes equipment in a safe manner.</p><p>
6. Writes clear, comprehensive initial and follow up notes. Orders appropriate diagnostic and laboratory tests.</p><p>
7. Plans effectively for any necessary home care and follow-up.</p><p>
8. Initiates referrals and consultations with appropriate specialists as indicated.</p><p>
9. Facilitates family and team meetings as appropriate to patient care needs.</p><p>
10. Directs the medical/nursing plan of care building collegial relationships among the team of his/her colleagues and peers to maximize patient care and outcomes.</p><p>
