Position Summary
Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, the Electrocardiographic (ECG) Technician promotes safe patient outcomes for patients requiring remote telemetry monitoring. The ECG Technician observes, interprets, and documents the patient's ECG rhythm patterns and ST segment analysis as seen on the telemetry ECG monitors. This person ensures prompt discovery and reporting of changes in heart rhythm to appropriate staff members in accordance with established policies, protocols, and current standards.
Duties &amp; Responsibilities<ul><li>
ECG Rhythm Interpretations:<ul><li>
Provides continuous ECG monitoring and interpretation for patients on telemetry</li><li>
Observes ECG rhythms on telemetry monitor</li><li>
Interprets ECG rhythm and documents interpretation</li><li>
Runs strip for each telemetry patient every four (4) hours</li><li>
Interprets strip, labels rhythm, and places strip in assigned location for review by patient&rsquo;s nurse and physician</li><li>
Notifies staff in a prompt and timely manner regarding changes in patient&rsquo;s heart rate, rhythm, oxygen saturation level or other pertinent patient information</li><li>
Provides documentation of change, placing rhythm strips in the medical record</li><li>
Provides trending information from monitors as requested</li></ul></li><li>
Equipment and Supply Maintenance:<ul><li>
Maintains equipment and supplies for telemetry system</li><li>
Monitors equipment daily and assures ordering of supplies on a daily/weekly basis</li><li>
Cleans lead wires and transmitters after each patient use and return them to storage. Note: Charge RN checks inventory of telemetry boxes at end of each shift and follows up discrepancies with nursing staff. Promptly notifies Biomedical engineering personnel of malfunction problems with equipment</li></ul></li><li>
Emergency Response:<ul><li>
Recognizes the need to escalate to rapid response team (RRT) or #1 Emergency Performs full disclosure of patients&rsquo; rhythms Notifies Risk Department when necessary Patient Care: Changes electrodes and batteries Complies with confidentiality and privacy requirements in the care of patients and their records</li><li>

Minimum Qualifications<div>

Major Responsibilities: 
Responsible for performing routine and STAT request for ECG procedures
 1)Able to troubleshoot problems associated with performing ECG’s, i.e., calming anxious patients, distracting pediatric patients

6)Participates in Performance Improvement activities.
 
7)Maintains printers, able to change cartridges or initiate call to obtain service for all printers
 
8)Understands and utilizes downtime procedures as needed.
 
Interacts with medical staff, nurses & other hospital departments regarding patient care & departmental procedures
 1)Provides a copy of each ECG at the Nursing Station
 
2)Identifies arrhythmias or critical findings and reports them immediately, as well as any other acute changes in patient condition. Timely notification to physicians and nursing personnel and follow critical values reporting criteria and documentation.
 
3)Coordinate patient care with patient’s nurse and/or other ancillary departments
 
4)Communicates with patient’s nurse if a patient care issue arises preventing an ECG from being done, i.e., dressings, central lines, uncooperative patient
 
Participation in professional development & process improvement teams by attending inservices, meetings & continuing education programs appropriate to the goals & needs of the department
 4)Presents short inservices to familiarize department with ECG Technologist role, new or updated procedures as required

 Position Summary
 
 
 
 Under assessment and supervision of the Physician/RN/LPN and according to established policies and procedures, performs patient care activities in order to assist health care providers in performing various technical / clinical procedures in the patient care area. Job requires knowledge, skill and ability to provide basic care for a neo-natal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient population
 
 
 
 Responsibilities
 
 
 
 <ul>
 <li>
 Completes patient intake and discharge under supervision of a physician, NP, and/or RN/LPN. Completes appropriate documentation in the medical record (paper and EMR).
 </li>
 <li>
 Performs technical tasks, as authorized : checks vital signs, collects routine specimen, performs ECG, phlebotomy,
 </li>
 <li>
 Assists providers with procedures.
 </li>
 <li>
 Responds to emergency situations in a prompt and precise manner, and assists other health care providers as needed
 </li>
 <li>
 Informs Physician, NP, or RN/LPN of patient's symptoms, reactions, progress and other information pertaining to patient's care. Documents information in the medical record (paper and electronic) according to policies and procedures.
 </li>
 <li>
 Presents a positive appearance and attitude demonstrating excellent guest relation skills, interpersonal skills and team values within the Professional Corporation, Health System and community.
 </li>
 <li>
 Observes and maintains patient, staff and corporate confidentiality per policies and procedures.
 </li>
 <li>
 Perform other duties as requested.

 Requirements
 
 
 
 <ul>
 <li>
 Demonstrates ability to read, write, follow verbal or written instructions and perform simple mathematical calculations.
 </li>
 <li>
 A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
 </li>
 <li>
 AAMA or AMT Medical Assistant certification preferred upon hire and required within six months of hire date.
 </li>
 <li>
 Maintains BCLS certification
 </li>
 <li>
 Completes orientation as specified to acquire the necessary familiarity with LMHS policies, procedures and patient care techniques within assigned patient care areas.
 </li>
 <li>
 Demonstrates ability to assist in the care for pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients within the scope of the job description while under the supervision of a licensed physician, NP and/or RN/LPN.
 </li>
 <li>
 Demonstrate knowledge, skill and ability to perform: phlebotomy, ECG, vital signs, ear lavage, monofilament, glucometer, occult blood, visual and auditory acuity, strep screen, urinalysis, urine pregnancy, specimen collection and preparation as applicable to the practice setting.
 </li>
 <li>
 Competency with personal computer usage and medical record documentation
 </li>
 <li>
 LMH is accredited by DNV and TJC, and as such, may require specific annual education related to specialty certifications and standards.
