Classroom/Laboratory Management &ndash; the Instructor shall:1. Provide students with a complete syllabus containing course objectives on the first day of class.2. Exercise firm, fair and consistent class control.3. Begin and end class/lab on time and facilitate the effective use of class time.4. Maintain consistent performance when dealing with all students with respect to grading, documentation, policies, and discipline.5. Provide the Director of Education or his/her designee with regular feedback relative to class and student progress and/or problems.6. Provide student with timely information and feedback on his/her academic progress relative to quizzes, tests, homework and projects.7. Review academic progress with students on a regular basis, well in advance of the end of a course.8. Ensure the classroom/laboratory facility is left in a clean and orderly manner upon conclusion of your scheduled session.9. Supervise and manage assigned teaching and laboratory assistants.10. Contact, via telephone, all absent students as required by the college.11. Maintain an overall student attendance rate in accordance with the college&rsquo;s fiscal year attendance goal as measured at the end of the each term/module and annually.12. Maintain an overall student retention rate in accordance with the college&rsquo;s fiscal retention goal as measured at the end of each module/term and annually.B. GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Performs highly advanced and/or supervisory (senior-level) training and development work. Serves as an Emergency Vehicle Operations Center (EVOC) Driving Instructor, planning and conducting classroom, laboratory, and/or field instruction sessions as part of the EVOC training program. The Unit&rsquo;s responsibilities include instructing these topics for the development of the Recruit Trooper Trainees as well as the continuing education for the Department&rsquo;s commissioned officers and civilian staff, Federal Officers/Agents, and Military personnel. May supervise the work of others. Works under minimal supervision, with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
 1. Oversee the development of teaching methods and lesson plans, training aids, text materials involving Emergency Vehicle Driver training for all DPS and partner agency students.
 2. Provide instruction and training in areas such as: Basic Patrol Driving, High Profile Vehicle (HPV), Emergency Response, Pursuit Driving, Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT), Decision, Stress &amp; Pursuit, and all other training DPS EVOC provides.
 3. Monitor the progress of students, document their results, and/or recommend remedial and corrective action. Create and conduct specialized remedial training to address driving deficiencies identified to a group, and/or, specific individual.
 4. Serve as a professional resource for the Division regarding the EVOC training program. Compiles and evaluates data and statistics to prepare reports and develop best practices for program&rsquo;s policies and procedures.
 5. Assist in conducting research on emerging technology, practices, and techniques to enhance instructional knowledge and skill.
 6. Design and develop methods for assessing and evaluating training and Emergency Driver Training related product performance and effectiveness. Evaluate data and statistics to prepare budgets for training and educational programs and manage vendor contracts for Emergency Driver Training related products.
 7. Coordinate the design, development, instruction, and evaluation of Emergency Driver Training related topics for Recruit Trooper Trainees, advanced Emergency Driver Training related topics and training in a classroom, and/or, driving track environment.
 8. Participate in committees made up of representatives of the Training Operations Division and other Department representatives overseeing and monitoring training and academic learning objectives, standards, and requirements.
 9. Identify long-range training goals and recommend programs to achieve said goals to enhance the training capabilities of the EVOC Unit to meet the Department&rsquo;s needs.
10. Perform driving track and pad maintenance and improvement. Have the physical ability to consistently climb in and out of training vehicles on a routine daily basis.
11. May plan, assign, and/or supervise the work of others, and occasionally perform the duties as a team lead supervising other instructors or personnel.

Education &ndash; Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with an emphasis in Criminal Justice, Business or Public Administration, Communication, or a related field preferred.
Experience &ndash; Minimum of four (4) years&rsquo; Law Enforcement experience from a local, state, or federal law enforcement agency, or certified instructional experience in teaching Emergency Driver Training Tactics and Operations. Acceptable Driving Tactics Instructor Certifications: Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) &ndash; Law Enforcement Driver Instructor Training program (LEDITP), Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) &ndash; Law Enforcement Advanced Driver Instructor Training program (LEADITP), Texas A&amp;M Engineering Extension Service (TEEXS) &ndash; Emergency Vehicle Operations Instructor, or other law enforcement driving instructor program.

Licensure and/or Certification &ndash; Must have or obtain within one (1) year: Basic Instructor Certification Course issued by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) and the Texas DPS Driving Instructor School (DIS). Must pass DPS Driving Instructor proficiency tests with a 90% score. Must successfully pass and maintain Department&rsquo;s standard physical readiness test (PRT) at 70% or above. Must possess a valid driver license from state of residence.

 The instructor for English as a Second Language (ESL), under the direct supervision of the College and Career Readiness Coordinator and the general supervision of the Dean of Adult Education, is responsible for the classroom instruction of ESL at Richmond (formerly Morrison) Correctional Institution. The Instructor is responsible for appropriate reporting to Richmond Community College and correctional facility personnel and keeping current with the scheduling of classes and their enrollment requirements.
 
 
 
 Duties And Responsibilities Of The Position

 Instruct College and Career Readiness English as a Second language class providing contextualized language and civics instruction to multiple level adult learners at Richmond/Scotland Correctional.

 Assess individual learner's needs, set goals, and prescribe a plan of instructional activities to meet these goals.

 Develop lesson plans for group instruction using the class profile developed from student assessments.
