Perform inspections of all types of conveyances, ensuring conformance with the laws and rules pertaining to WAC 296-96, RCW 70.87, and national codes and standards adopted under state laws, and per the operation manual and guidelines. The types of inspections performed include annual inspections, alterations inspections, new installations, temporary, and technical inspections.</li><li>
Perform licensing and permitting compliance checks to ensure work is properly performed by qualified authorized persons and registered contractors/companies.</li><li>
Participate in appropriate office standard practices to include keeping office space safe and clean, file reports and inspection documentation per the retention schedule, attend and participate in training relevant to role, and complete online training courses.</li><li><div>
Required to travel and work in environments that have field or hazardous exposure.</div></li><li><div>
May be required to travel and work in other locations throughout the state</div></li><li>
Research and write reports.</li><li>
Interact verbally and in writing to building officials, elevator contractors, business owners and staff regarding elevator inspections and code related issues.</li><li>
Writes clear and concise inspection reports for owners and staff. Reads and understands blue prints, writing diagrams and schematics.</li><li>
Maintain assigned state vehicle.</li><li>
Assist Chief and/or Technical Specialist to write instructions or guidelines for best inspection practices.</li><li>
Assist Chief and/or Technical Specialist with providing information and conducting educational presentations for training, or instruction to both internal and external staff and stakeholders.</li><li>
Follow all agency internal safety and health policies.</li><li>

Must be able to climb stairs and ladders, climb on and off elevator car tops in high places and be able to perform work on the car top and manipulate car top controls.</li><li>

Must wear full-face protective equipment and safety harness in areas, where required and/or wear other required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while carrying out inspection duties.</li></ul></div><p></p>

Four years of experience as an elevator mechanic assistant or elevator mechanic.</li></ul>
OR<br>
<ul><li>Four years' experience as an elevator inspector for an authority having jurisdiction (AHJ);</li></ul>

<ul><li>Two years' experience of the above and successful completion of the two-year Department of Labor and Industries Elevator Inspector training program.</li></ul><br>

  Job Responsibilities Are As Follows

 </strong>
 35% - Inspect and maintain hydraulic, electrical, and electronic equipment, including electrical and electronic circuitry of passenger and freight elevator systems and power lifts.

 35% - Service, repair and fabrication of mechanical and electrical on passenger, freight, and power lift elevator systems.
 <br/>
 <br/>
 10% - Perform safety tests in accordance with State of Michigan regulations.
 <br/>
 <br/>
 10% - Project management and customer contact.
 <br/>
 <br/>
 10% - Correspondence through email, training, meetings and professional development.
 <br/>
 <br/>

  Minimum Requirements
  <br/>
  <br/>

  <li>
   Completion of high school education or equivalent combination of technical training and experience.
  </li>
  <li>
   Successful completion of an applicable trade-specific Trades Helper program, or completion of an approved apprenticeship program, or an associate degree, or equivalent education/experience.
  </li>
  <li>
   Seven and one-half years of experience in the trade that includes seven and one-half years of experience in the commercial elevator installation and maintenance trade and demonstrated ability to independently perform the duties and responsibilities of the classification, or equivalent experience.
  </li>
  <li>
   Possession of a valid State of Michigan Class A or B Elevator License.
  </li>
  <li>
   Possess and maintain Qualified Elevator Inspector (QEI) certification.
  </li>
  <li>
   Expert knowledge of methods, materials, tools, equipment, occupational hazards, and safety precautions of the trade.
  </li>
  <li>
   Expert knowledge of applicable electrical codes, rules, and regulations (local, state, and federal).
  </li>
  <li>
   Possession of a valid vehicle operator's license.
  </li>
  <li>
   Must furnish own hand tools.
  </li>
  <li>
   Frequent lifting of 26 to 75 pounds and occasional lifting of over 75 pounds.

 Experience with Motion Control Engineering; certification in IMC-AC, Power of I Control, PHC Hydraulic Controller, GAL Galaxy Controller, Smart Rise Engineering Controller, Hollister Whitney Machines, GAL Door Equipment; Certified Elevator Technician (CET); strong written and verbal communication/interpersonal skills; established problem solving skills; good customer relations/service skills; ability to work as an effective member of a team.
