Job Summary</b><br>
An Emergency Communications Dispatcher (ECD) receives voice and text requests for police, fire, and medical services. The incumbent in this position determines the nature, urgency, and jurisdiction of a report and either dispatches first responders or transfers the call to the appropriate jurisdiction. The ECD documents information in Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) software and provides updates via phone or radio as needed. The ECD provides guidance and assistance to the public in life-safety situations; and coordinates appropriate responses to high-risk, high-stress operations, with the objective of keeping all participants safe.</div><br>

<div>The Campus Safety Communications Officer operates the Department of Campus Safety Communications Center on the Bethune-Cookman University campus, receiving emergency and non-emergency telephone calls, after-hours maintenance requests, monitoring computerized alarm and access control systems, providing contact to police and EMS services, providing in-person customer service, monitoring a CCTV surveillance system and reporting inappropriate activities to zone officers, and making entries into automated record files. Some tasks may be life-safety related and thus place a critical emphasis on a successful outcome.</div>
<div></div><div><b>Essential Functions:</b></div>
<ul><li>Utilize proper telephone etiquette when answering the telephone.</li>
<li>Multitasking capability and calm, efficient function under stressful conditions are essential (i.e. dispatch calls to Campus Safety Officers, communicate on the telephone and monitor the video surveillance system).</li>

The Northwest Regional Emergency Communications Center (NRECC) is the primary public safety dispatch center for the City of Dublin, City of Hilliard, City of Upper Arlington (police and fire), City of Worthington (police and fire), Washington Township, and Norwich Township. Located inside the Dublin Justice Center, NRECC was formed in October 2013 when Dublin began providing dispatching services for Norwich Township Fire and became the primary 9-1-1 answering point for all of Hilliard. Dispatching for Hilliard Police started in January of 2014. Upper Arlington fire joined in October 2017 and Upper Arlington Police in January 2018. Worthington police and fire joined in 2020.<br>
