What You Will Do</b><br>
The Endoscopy Technician is responsible for performing a variety of direct patient care activities and assisting with endoscopic procedures under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and Gastroenterologist. Responsibilities include assisting patients, staff and physicians as needed to maintain a high level of operational efficiency, patient data management through transcription and documentation, and customer service while providing quality care to designated patient population. Supports best use of resources in management on equipment, supplies, and other department resources.<br>

Accurate and efficiently provides high level disinfection of all endoscopes/washers based on ASGE, manufacturer guidelines, and established Sharp Policy and Procedure.<br>
Maintains quality logbook documentation for regulatory compliance. (Measured and monitored through observation by direct supervisor and QA book audits).</li><li>
Department Efficiency and Effectiveness<br>
Organizes and completes daily requirements and responsibilities within time frames.<br>

Accurately and efficiently performs patient care activities under the direct supervision of a registered nurse.<br>
Is proficient in assisting the gastroenterologist during endoscopic procedures. (Measured and monitored through direct observation by immediate supervisor and gastroenterologist feedback).<br>
Demonstrates clinical knowledge and skill in assigned area and within scope of practice.<br>
Perform and assist with all tests and procedures in assigned department.<br>
Administers medications safely and accurately per guidelines and written order. Ensures verification by licensed person and documentation of all medications administered including two (2) patient identifier verification. No medication errors. Prepares patient for examination or procedure.<br>
Obtains complete and accurate consent for procedures/surgery.<br>
Prepares and labels biopsies in a thorough and accurate manner.<br>
Accurately documents patient care per protocol.<br>
Partners with physician to continuously learn and expand clinical knowledge base.<br>
Listens to patients, collects pertinent information, recognizes the urgency of the patient's problem and routes to physicians. Returns phone calls according to physician instruction. May schedule patient appointments.<br>
In partnership with physician, may review pre-printed teaching materials or written instructions from the provider with patient.<br>
Uses universal precautions and demonstrates knowledge of infection control policies and procedures.<br>
Provides assistance to PSRs in resolving issues related to front desk responsibilities including scheduling and telephone management.<br>
Acts as a positive role model and ensures appropriate service delivery.<br>
Participates in clinical projects as directed by physician or manager</li><li>
Professional Development<br>
Actively participates in endoscopy department annual competency training and departmental in-services. Aides in teaching new staff correct maintenance and processing of endoscopy equipment. Orients staff to all aspects of the endoscopy technician role. Updates knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and changes to ASGE standards of practice. (Measured and monitored through direct observation by immediate supervisor).</li><li>
Specimens
<br>
Under the direct supervision of the attending gastroenterologist and registered nurse, obtains tissue specimens, brushings, and washings during endoscopy procedures. Correctly communicates and verifies specimen labeling to the registered nurse and gastroenterologist. Correctly documents specimens in the log book prior to transporting them to the laboratory. (Measured and monitored through observation by immediate supervisor and specimen log audits).</li></ul><p><br>
