 Perform material and soil testing in a laboratory setting involving a variety of design and quality control testing including acceptance testing, design mix, proficiency and advance testing; research material properties, new or proposed specifications and test procedures.

 Maintain and calibrate equipment to ensure proper operation, accuracy and reliability of test results and data collection; maintain equipment inventory, repair and maintenance records; document calibration results, repairs and problems encountered and make recommendations for repair and/or replacement of existing equipment.

The city of Las Vegas is accepting applications for <b>Engineering Technicia</b><b>n (Survey)</b>.<b> </b>This position performs a variety of technical work involving civil, traffic, mechanical and environmental engineering, duties involved in drafting, maintaining GIS data, developing cost estimates, engineering plans research, plan review, field inspection, data gathering and customer assistance, and provides assistance to professional and technical level engineering staff.</p><p><b>
Ideal Candidate</b><br>
The ideal candidate for the Survey Section will have experience in any of the following areas: reading and interpreting civil engineering plans, reviewing land surveying maps, and operating CAD software used in the civil engineering and land surveying industries. This position requires the use of computers and various technical software applications and may also involve operating land surveying equipment in the field. Training will be provided for those with the aptitude and willingness to learn.</p><b>
Distinguishing Characteristics</b><br>
This is the full journey level class within the Engineering Technician series. Employees are fully competent to independently perform the full range of duties as assigned. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit.<p><b><br>

Examination Process</b><br>
<b> </b>A civil service examination will be conducted in accordance with the Civil Service Rules of the city of Las Vegas. The supplemental questions are the examination. Falsification of information may result in disqualification from a recruitment or removal from a city position. Additional information will not be accepted after the closing date. The supplemental questions are weighted 100% for placement on an eligible list, and must be worked on individually by the applicant only. The supplemental questions of all qualified applicants will be reviewed for placement on an eligible list.</p><b>
Eligible List</b><br>
You must score 70% or higher on the examination to be placed on the eligible list. The eligible list will remain in effect for a period of 6 months from the date of certification and may be extended for a period of up to 2 years.<p><b><br>

The Opportunity

The Virtual Design & Data Solutions (VDDS) Lead Engineering Technician applies advanced technical expertise to solve complex design challenges, and contributes to the development of innovative engineering solutions.

Key Responsibilities
<br>Functions in a lead technician, technical design specialist, and/or supervisory role
<br>Applies advanced technical expertise to solve complex design challenges within a specific engineering discipline and contributes to the development of innovative engineering solutions
<br>Utilizes digital design tools and software (e.g., CAD, BIM, 3D modeling) following standardized procedures to create, modifies, and maintains technical documentation, drawings, and project deliverables
<br>Responsible for technical quality, schedule adherence, and budget compliance, while effectively coordinating efforts across departments, teams, and stakeholders
<br>May supervise engineering technicians and support staff by coordinating, overseeing, and guiding conceptual and detailed design activities to ensure quality, efficiency, and alignment with project objectives
<br>Establishes, communicates, and enforces design and graphic standards
<br>Reviews project requirements to determine correct formats and deliverable content
<br>Promotes quality across projects, groups, and sections
<br>Reviews design inputs to ensure consistency and compliance
<br>Ensures that design deliverables are prepared, coordinated among disciplines and issued in accordance with BV Quality Assurance Procedures and project specific procedures
<br>Improves integration, coordination, and communication across disciplines
<br>Contributes to continuous improvement of design guides, standards, and processes
<br>Leads or participates in process improvement and change management initiatives
<br>Applies sound engineering fundamentals and established design practices in developing deliverables
<br>Exercises judgment, makes work-related decisions, and guides other professionals
<br>Coordinates deliverable presentations, delegates production design, or other electronic applications
<br>Monitors production to assure consistency, budget and schedule of deliverables
<br>Establishes drawing control methods and maintains historical records
<br>Programs control systems or participates in other plant start-up activities associated with a specialized expertise area
<br>Leads or supports development of new or updated design applications and processes
<br>Coordinates with other design group personnel to review and exchange project information necessary for design development
<br>May supports field activities
<br>May manage multiple discipline areas or groups
<br>Communicates project design requirements, progress, and schedules
<br>Responsible for determining identification of key client interests and drivers on projects. Communicate client interests and drivers to project team members and develop approaches to accommodate these concerns
<br>Leads development and communication of design standards and process improvement initiatives
<br>Identifies training and development needs and supports personnel development for personnel they supervise
<br>Champions development and improvement of project tools and software applications
<br>Preferred Qualifications
<br>Associate Degree in Drafting or an Engineering Design Related Technology required.
<br>Bachelor Degree in an Engineering Design Related Technology preferred.
<br>Minimum Qualifications
<br>Typically a minimum of 15 years related work experience.
