 The Dutchess BOCES Adult Learning Institute is looking for dynamic instructors to teach English Language Learners in a welcoming, supportive, and educational setting.
 
 
 The focus of this course is to improve students' English speaking, writing and communication skills as it pertains to the community around them and the workforce.

 Duties
 
 
 
 Class runs 3 hours per day over 2 to 4 days per week, depending on the location. This class is open entry and serves a multi-level student population. Students are 18 years of age and older.
 
 
 
 Qualifications
 
 
 
 Bachelor's degree preferred. Must have K-12 Permanent Certification or be eligible for Adult Education Certificate. Experience working with adults of varied backgrounds required.
 
 
 Previous teaching of adults and/or non-native English speakers is desired.

Job Overview:
In an effort to support newly arrived refugees and immigrants in starting their lives successfully in the U.S., the Adult Education Program provides free ESL classes to adult clients. Classes offered focus on English for everyday life as well as job readiness skills through ESL. The teacher will be responsible for teaching three ESL classes.
Position Term: Short term- September 1st to January 15th.
Hours: 37.5 per week
Major Responsibilities:<ul><li>
Prepare for and teach rigorous ESL classes for immigrants, newly arrived refugee and asylee clients, using interactive, learner-centered activities and ESL strategies</li><li>
Document attendance and student progress per funder requirements</li><li>
Follow up with students who miss class to address barriers to attendance</li><li>
Support with intake and registration of new students</li><li>
Process referrals and conduct participant outreach</li><li>
Actively participate in weekly check-ins with the Adult Education Supervisor and team meetings to discuss individual client progress and the best way to provide support as necessary</li><li>
Complete professional development hours as required by program funders</li><li>
Supervise ESL Assistant Interns</li><li>
Test student&rsquo;s English language skills using Intercambio, Best Plus 3.0 or other assessment per funder requirements</li><li>
Complete other tasks as needed to support the Adult Education Department</li></ul>
Breakdown of weekly hours: 24 hrs. teaching, 8 hours lesson planning, 2.5 hrs. administrative work, 3 hrs. team meetings / supervision
Qualifications:
<ul><li>Bachelor&rsquo;s degree and TESOL certificate preferred</li><li>
3+ years of experience teaching ESL to adults from culturally diverse backgrounds using culturally responsive strategies</li><li>
Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as an overall ability to be clear and concise in all communications</li><li>
Strong organizational and time-management skills; proven ability to prioritize and deliver on time</li><li>
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team</li><li>
Highly proficient in Microsoft Office suite</li><li>
