<p><b>Position Summary [Purpose and Scope]:</b> The IFP Attorney is employed by a certified domestic violence center to provide direct representation to survivors of domestic, dating and sexual violence and stalking in injunction for protection proceedings and in violations of injunctions. The IFP Attorney will 1) represent survivors seeking injunctions by drafting and filing the ex parte petition for injunction and representing the survivor at the final injunction hearing; 2) represent survivors who have obtained a temporary injunction on their own and need representation at the hearing on the final injunction; and 3) represent survivors by filing affidavits of violation of injunction.</p><p>Position will focus on representation in South Sarasota County and DeSoto County. Primary office will be in Venice, with office space also provided in Sarasota &amp; Arcadia.</p><p><b>Benefits:</b> Benefits will be provided to this position which will consist of 100% employer-paid Health Insurance, Dental Insurance, Short/Long Term Disability Insurance, and Life Insurance after the 1st 30-day calendar month of employment, as well as a matching program in our 403(b) Retirement Plan after one year of employment. DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION</b></p><p><b>
Litigation</b></p><p>
CBF&rsquo;s Litigation department evaluates opportunities for filing legal actions against private parties, states, or the federal government which support CBF objectives throughout the Bay Watershed. In the appropriate circumstances, the department recommends that suit be filed, and if approved by the president and the litigation committee, counsel is retained, or the department staff handles litigation of the action internally.</p><p><b>
CONTEXT OF THE POSITION</b></p><p>
The litigation fellowship provides an opportunity for a recent law school graduate, within three years of law school, to work with experienced environmental practitioners within a leading environmental non-profit organization and gain the necessary training and professional development to launch a successful career in environmental law.</p><p>
The fellow will take a lead role in developing litigation for new cases, research, and memo writing while working and managing a project designed to help lay the groundwork for litigation and possibly other advocacy work within CBF.
