Teaching candidates must hold a valid state of Tennessee teaching certification in Physical Educaiton or be upcoming graduates in an accredited teacher preparation program. If you hold a teaching license in another state,you must<ul><li> for a Tennessee teaching license.</li><li>

  Overview

 </strong>
 Adult English Language and Literacy (AELL) is the direct service provider of ESOL and adult literacy instruction for The New York Public Library (NYPL). Professional teachers facilitate free instruction to adult patrons in reading, writing, speaking and listening from a 0 to 8th grade level in both in-person and online classes. Instruction is offered in three, 10-week cycles and one, 4-week summer cycle.

  Responsibilities
 </strong>
 <ul>
  <li>
   Teach ESOL classes that promote English language proficiency and digital literacy for students assessed at NRS levels 1-6
  </li>
  <li>
   Follow the prescribed curriculum in a communicative language teaching environment during class-time
  </li>
  <li>
   Submit lesson plans that demonstrate communicative language teaching in alignment with the prescribed curriculum
  </li>
  <li>
   Instruct adult ESOL students in classes and learning experiences, which will lead to the achievement of their educational and personal goals
  </li>
  <li>
   Assist in the managed enrollment process to recruit students and maintain student records
  </li>
  <li>
   Participate in prescribed professional development pertaining to adult basic education and Library strategic priorities

   Experience creating lesson plans using a backward design approach
  </li>

   Experience administering standardized assessments

   Strong verbal and written communication skills
  </li>
