 About the role:
 
 
 
 The Fellowship will begin with a week-long business journalism bootcamp, a series of classes taught by top editors. Fellows will then rotate through the newsroom during a series of four, 3-month assignments in order to develop financial analysis, investigations, source development, and news reporting.&nbsp;We are looking for recent college graduates who are interested in business journalism and have some experience in reporting, including internships and work on college newspapers. People making a career switch to journalism will also be considered, depending on their previous experience, training and education.
 
 
 Our office operates as a remote and hybrid workforce, with in-person collaboration expected for certain roles. Based on the responsibilities of this position, a hybrid work schedule with a minimum of one in-person collaboration day per week at our Jersey City, NJ headquarters is expected.

<div>PEN America, a nonprofit organization working at the intersection of literature and human rights, seeks a dynamic and results-oriented program manager of U.S. journalist safety to lead our work supporting journalists and media professionals, as well as their allies and employers, amidst an increasingly hostile environment for press freedom in the U.S. This is a full-time, union-eligible position based at PEN America&rsquo;s New York City headquarters; applicants based in Washington, D.C. will also be considered. The position reports to the Director of Digital Safety and Free Expression in the Free Expression Programs department. This position has an initial 12-month term subject to extension contingent on funding. 
 
The program manager will drive forward our work to support journalists and media professionals, as well as their allies and employers, in the face of online abuse, threats, and other intimidation tactics in the U.S. by managing and growing our journalist safety training program, including leading trainings and giving presentations; expanding our engagement with impacted audiences in the media sector; strengthening existing partnerships and forging new ones; following current developments in safety, press freedom, and digital rights; and coordinating with colleagues focused on policy and advocacy. The program manager will have opportunities for public speaking, travel, and relationship building in the media and digital rights sectors. 
 
The ideal candidate will be passionate about journalist safety and press freedom, deeply committed to making online spaces safer and more equitable, possess an understanding of intersectionality, and be attuned to safety challenges in an era of rapidly evolving technology and growing hostility to the press. <ul><li>Breaking news &mdash; You&rsquo;ll regularly break stories on what&rsquo;s going on in distressed debt, from deteriorating company earnings all the way through to messy out-of-court restructurings</li><li>
Feature-writing &mdash; You&rsquo;ll know when to pull the trigger on longer-form articles that connect the dots between daily news and broader market trends</li><li>
Generating ideas &mdash; You&rsquo;ll provide a consistent stream of new ideas, whether that&rsquo;s identifying new situations to cover, or thinking up new ways to cover them</li><li>

About You

We are seeking a sharp, creative, and adaptable Video Journalist/Producer to join our fast-paced newsroom. In this role, you will produce visually compelling video content and write short video-led stories across breaking news, showbiz, politics, lifestyle, and international coverage.

You'll be responsible for pitching and producing engaging stories using original and sourced footage, editing content for multiple platforms, and identifying opportunities to drive traffic and engagement through smart editorial packaging and headline writing. This role requires strong video production and editorial instincts, as well as the ability to operate in a dynamic 24/7 news cycle. 


Key Responsibilities

About You

<li>A trained video journalist with 4+years of experience in a fast-paced digital newsroom</li>
<li>Demonstrated ability to find and develop video-first news stories independently</li>
<li>Comfortable balancing quick-turnaround edits with quality, longer-form storytelling</li>
<li>Excellent editorial judgment and strong understanding of DailyMail's voice and audience</li>
<li>Confident pitching ideas and providing creative input on video packages</li>
<li>Adaptable, self-motivated, and comfortable switching priorities at short notice</li>
<li>Strong communicator and a team player who thrives in a high-pressure environment</li>
<li>Familiarity with copyright, fair use, and ethical considerations in digital video reporting</li></ul> 


Skills Needed

<li>Advanced proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro; working knowledge of After Effects and Photoshop is a plus</li>
<li>Experience with vertical video formats and platform-specific editing techniques</li>
